Are "Hype Threads" in general allowed for games? This might seem strange but I feel like having a dedicated hype thread would be another way to get the superfans in one central area where we can drool and praise hyperbolically as needed without getting into arguments about positives and negatives. You know, a thread that is not for reasonable discourse.
EDIT: After reading more of the thread and your responses I see that it seems this wouldn't be ok. That's too bad because some of my best times on GAF have been goofing and having fun while waiting for games to be released. I certainly think this is just as valid as the threads that are completely praising/destroying a game based on 10 screenshots, etc.

And why is that? I made the thread in a very specific way and it was done long before these threads even existed. It's written in-universe, I haven't written it to be overly positive or negative. There's jokes where I felt them appropriate.
If that's setting up the thread to be a shitshow it's not my fault, but that of the people posting in it.
Preload starts in like 20 minutes I think and is good for anyone. You can redeem your GMG Key, which is just a Steam Key, at any point. So you can preload.

Fair enough. I just thought a joke about the graphics will just invite bickering about the graphics right off the bat but its your thread and it will happen anyway. Nevermind me, was just a thought.

Well, we don't encourage them, so we're not going to designate an official hype thread or anything. But if I'm being perfectly honest we are well aware that they're going to happen anyway so all we can really do is react to them on a case by case basis. Like this one for example. It originally started off as two separate threads: the first was the "gone gold" thread, the second was the leaked footage thread. EviLore merged them together to give the "gone gold" thread more substance. The message there is that we're not altogether keen on a hollow "game went gold thread." But having said that, we didn't lock the thread and we certainly weren't considering revoking thread privileges of the OP for starting it.
So until we say otherwise or start locking threads you create, you shouldn't be overly fearful of trying to start a thread that may invariably become a hype thread. But I'd encourage it having some premise besides just blatantly being a hype thread.

Ok GAF, im taking a holiday for F4 release. Its my first day ive taken off just for myself outside of family vacations in 10 years.
I had everything planned out on what im doing. Was going to relax by myself and not worry and play.
My son just got suspended from school monday thru wednesday for getting into peoples gym lockers. Supposedly he thought someone took something of his.
My point is now hes going to be home on Fallout day. Definently not what I planned or intended.

I'd have to agree; things were feeling out of balance there for a little bit and I could see an OT making it worse. The super fans really almost ruined the game for me. I was really interested in hearing about the game's terrible visuals and the missing items in feature parity but people couldn't get a word in with all the circle-jerking. Thankfully calmer minds prevailed and now that I know the game is shit and all the fun features have been stripped out, I can't wait for this game. I'm probably alone in this but I just love playing bad games; its been a hobby of mine since Uncharted 2 and I just can't get enough. I depend on prerelease threads like this for the best guidance to make the most informed decisions with my money so its frustrating when Care-bear gamers want to play PR and challenge the things I really want to hear.
I just hope people can appreciate my sincerity here and not attack my personal beliefs. I, recognizing my perspective and tastes may be a little different than others, appreciate that diversity here and the commitment to letting everyone have an opportunity to be heard.

Make him do the work he would have done in school on the table or on something near you. Or make him write a six page essay about moral choices and options instead of going into other stuff. Or just make him study the entire time. You have options.
