I'm not sure why he doesn't either retire, move the series to something with less stressful deadlines, or draw a bunch of chapters at his own pace and then release them in bursts. It seems like he just does nothing, agrees to start publication again and then starts from scratch with no material for a weekly series.

Everything points to the fact that he's been doing that. If you average out his releases per year from 2007-2014 it's a clean monthly pace (~11 per year)

Until the last time when he suddenly dropped out after 9 chapters with a message from Jump that he isn't feeling well, the pace was broken since then

well him moving to another issue won't solve anything since we can look at D.Gray-Man to know that it doesn't work

This fight, along with its conclusion felt a whole lot more hype in the light novel for some reason.

Still mad I gotta wait for the official translations to catch up in order to continue. I can't keep up with those giga-threads riddled with short summaries.

Yeah just about what you guys said, I don't know why he's acting all Monokuma right now. Like, I genuinely feel confused by why he's acting like this. I don't think I missed anything about his character up to now.

The apron was merely containing Isshiki's power, when he removes it that's when the real fun starts. He had the Tootsuki Institute create an apron that would seal his power when he wears it.

Random wordy (like 20 chapters worth in terms of Bleach word count) character backstory ending in an asspull power-up that incidentally is an advantage against the current foe. Masterpiece writing right there.

If I'm being honest I think it's kinda obvious that the author just didn't really have a good way out of that situation

All he has to do is justify it by having Soma show some kind of insight into Eizan's character, but given that Soma's primary characteristic is being fucking oblivious, that doesn't seem likely.

I'm kind of okay with it turning out that Eizan's merciless pride in crushing Soma's spirit ends up being his downfall. Assuming this is like every other manga ever written, Eizan will get an "about to be defeated" flashback that will explain a lot of why he's acting like he is.
