I'm not sure which I prefer, but I do like the original color better. The purple looks kinda weird with the top, I prefer the original cool gray.

the new one is really boring...
the old one was at least completely over the top... this is more like a "we want to be edgy, but not toooooo much" pg-13 approach .... meh

usually I don't care for this kind of "censorship"... but this time I feel kinda mugged

As she is supposed to be a Japanese idol, I feel her original outfit fits her better.
But oh well, it's fine like this too I guess.

It looks bland as all hell, c'mon people.
Are some just agreeing with lazy design as long as it covers more skin?

While not a perfect way to fix it, glad it's less explicit. What's strange is this isn't okay but Xenoblades bathing suit for Len is okay in Japan.

Looks like something they'd actually feel okay with putting in a Nintendo Direct now.

For fuck's sake, If I can't get fanservice in a game that's based in GODDAMN FANSERVICE what the hell are we doing in this World?

There's plenty of porn on the internet for anyone who dislikes the costume change.

Not that I cared for the original design per se but this was not an improvement, she looks like she's wearing Cooperalls.

That or she's wearing shorts over Cooperalls. This is bad, 1981-1982 Philadelphia Flyers bad.

Maybe CERO rules on A and B rated games have gotten stricter, but C and above are untouched? NCL couldn't care less when it came to Xenoblade Chronicles X and Fates.

I think they're just trying to head off an eventual controversy when this comes west. If they change it now, it won't be seen as a controversial edit later.

I'm okay with the pants. They could be done a little better but the new design is more typical for a "cool/mature" idol and less like 2001-era Aguilera.

Very ugly redesign and recolor. If they wanted to cover her up, the original costume with dark tights under the zipper panties would've looked better. The blobby purple pants are just blah.

Pretty sure that's exactly what's happening

More interestingly enough, I wonder how many people against the old costume on based mere aesthetics have intentions on picking up this game.

I mean based on the console it's on and the type of game it is and the genre. Even more so it's Anime artstyle aesthetic. I wouldn't be surprised some of the detractors who haven't been following the game simply think the new design is better based on as you said, because it simply covers more skin, regardless of any contextual understanding about the game or any particular interest of it.

So would said change even effect these people in the slightest. Probably not. So then what would be the point? How does this matter to someone who doesn't intend to pick up Genei Ibun Roku FE.

I mean we already have some people admitting they don't even care about the context of why this character is wearing this particular outfit despite the fact that isn't her regular clothing and only dresses up this way in some transformation sequence for a Idol Concert.

It makes me wonder...

Well it's... better. It's not great, but it's a step in the right direction.

Are they censoring what's her face in Fates?

I assume you're talking about Soleil. Fire Emblem has a history of making changes (read: Not censorship) to certain characters upon localization, ranging from changing a character's age (Lyn, Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken) to their personality (Henry in Awakening, Kyza in Radiant Dawn). Heck, we've already seen some characters receiving name changes in Fates so it seems fair to assume that her character will be tweaked upon Fates' localization for obvious reasons.

If that's not what you meant, the above still applies, but I apologize for the assumption regardless.

Serious question, why does it look better?
It's a pair of bland looking purple pants straight out of the bargain bin at Uniqlo.

I think a question needs to be asked.

What kind of clothing do you expect the character to wear during an Idol Concert?

Also consider your answer with the knowledge that this isn't the character's normal everyday clothing and she only wears this one particular costume for Idol Concert stuff.

The costume were SO horrible before it was really embarassing.

I think the change makes sense. I have read that she's a pop idol and some of them do wear risque outfits from time to time but, I dunno, it just would seem odd to me for her to be walking around in panties through part of the game. I have no problem with sexy character designs but I prefer if they make sense in context. Disclaimer though: This is just my .02 cents and I haven't followed this title closely at all.

Prefer the new outfit but I also don't really like unnecessary sexualization in games very much so I guess that's just me.

The original was just a bit too overboard for my tastes.

The focus of both outfits is supposed to be the corset. In the before, the costume is haphazard because it's drawing the eyes away to the garders, the skin, the crotch zipper (lol), the boots. In the new costume, it's focused square on the corset again. The real problem is that with this redesign, she should have different boots because the belt loops (which were formally garders) blend too much with the pants, which are the same color as the boots. Her lower half needs more color.

But yes, the pants look better than the zipper crotch.

Real talk, even skimpy outfits at Idol concerts aren't Zipper crotch bad.

Because zipper-panties look stupid as fuck and not sexy at all. The new pants look weird, but they're not cringeworthy.

They should have redesigned the entire lower half of her costume instead of just sticking some knee-long shorts on though.

That's the thing though. It makes sense in this context because she only wears this when she performs in the Idol Concert thing.

These aren't her regular clothes she wears when not performing. Characters do these elaborate transformation sequences during the Idol Concert stuff.

I'm still waiting for someone to answer the question I brought up in my previous post too.

I didn't see your reply when I made my post, but I appreciate the answer. Okay then.

Preferably the kind of clothing without a vagina zipper. I love my fair share of fanservice and skimpy outfits but there is such a thing as too much to the point that I feel it undermines the characters I'm supposed to care about. And a vagina zipper definitely fits that category.
