Shawn Layden (President SCEA) wearing Crash Bandicoot t-shirt at PSX...

Like I said before, Naughty Dog could be the team to take a platformer and make it something that people wouldn't look at and say "That's not a AAA game" by default.

I firmly believe it won't be them, but if it was, and they WANTED to do it, and it was a smaller internal team, why the hell not?

If

it does happen, what do you guys think it will be more likely?

A Crash 1 reboot, or just straight up Crash 4?

Yeah makes sense it would be made by the Knack team, if said stealth project even exists.

As long as Cerny makes his "Crash Bandicoot on PS4" game actually be like Crash Bandicoot, then this is acceptable.

A Crash 1 reboot, or just straight up Crash 4?

Crash 1 done up to have features from Crash 2 and 3, new level design, and a more fleshed out story (Not by much, though!) a la Ratchet and Clank PS4...

OR

Crash Bandicoot: SUBTITLE that just fits in the series anywhere you could want it to. Like a cartoon, every episode starts "back to normal" :p

It'll be an Activision game developed by High Voltage, and you will like it.

High Voltage? What precedent do you have for that?

I don't think they'll stick a number on it in any case. There have been too many Crash games since 3 for "4" to make any sense.

I wouldn't mind seeing a retelling of Crash 1. Reboots are all the rage right now, but I'm not saying this to be trendy. I think there's a good case for changing the original story since they pulled Pamela Anderson Tawna Bandicoot out of the following games anyway. Plus seeing the evolvo ray is always cool, and resetting the island gives the developers more leeway.

Not like the islands have ever been consistent game to game anyways lol. In fact, funnily enough that you should mention it, the evolvo-ray is pretty much the only thing that ever was. No matter what other universe changes or story beats they had, the evolvo-ray was always the same thing, even in the Titans games.

That being said, I agree -- and so does pretty much any ex-Crash developer you ask, from Naughty Dog all the way to Radical. Starting over and modernizing it a bit is fine, especially with all the time since a mainline console Crash game.

Hell, even Radical were already doing a reboot before their last game got cancelled.

Thing is, with so many hints across the board why didn't someone already step forward and leak us _something_
All we have are hints from Sony themselves but no insider information?

There's literally an insider post in this thread teasing E3 2016 as the reveal haha

They're cheap and Activision likes cheap developers for most things other than their mainline cash-cows.

I'm not being serious; just throwing High Voltage out there as they're known for poor-quality work of late.

I see.. I thought maybe they had a work history with Activision.

I looked them up thinking they were someone else. They weren't, lol. I was thinking of Heavy Iron. So, GAF. If it's Activision... Who's on it?

(Phil winks).

I thought the people who were clamouring for a Crash remake were delusional. It was only until I saw Shawn walking out in that shirt that I started believing.

E3 2016, ladies and gents. What a crazy generation this has been.

The year of Dreeeeaaams!~~

Just a quick question. Did sony buy the IP from Activison ?

No reason to believe they have other than this shirt, but even if they have, there's no way we'll know until the deal goes public. Trademark assignment wouldn't occur until the deal was public, to avoid early leaks.

No-one knows, but there was apparently a reason why Crash was not able to be an unlockable character in Tony Hawk 5 (albeit possibly just that the game is shit).

Well, actually, there's that reason. "The game is shit" doesn't fly for me... King's Quest, TMNT, and tons of other properties were in there just fine. Robomodo said "timing and rights issues".

I was thinking this, but then I realized it would be a dumb move by Sony. If I'm an Activision exec and I see that a Crash mention has caused a lot of excitement, then why would I not just make the game myself? Or why wouldn't I then raise the price I would charge Sony for use of the IP or the outright IP sale? It's a terrible negotiating idea for Sony to gauge interest in something someone else owns. The better idea would be to acquire it before you stir up news or excitement so that you can grab it at its lowest cost.

Shawn Layden is not a dumb guy. He knows the feelings surrounding that IP, and he knows the amount of noise that would be made if he came out on stage wearing it. I have a hard time believing he felt so passionately about just wearing that shirt that he's willing to cause a commotion for no reason. They are going to get even more Crash questions now because of it, and he knew that going in.

The deal may already be done. Crash may be in either Sony's hand now or a deal is in place for Sony to make a Crash game. And Sony are just seeing how much hype it gets to decide what type of game and the budget for it will be.

But given the teases I'm probably wrong and it's already in development. I hope anyway.

I want to believe that a smaller team at ND headed by some of their Crash/Jak and Daxter veterans are working on Crash if Sony have supposedly gotten the rights from Activision.

I'm fairly confident that if they put him in that shirt that it's already well underway. Next year is Crash's 20th anniversary. Perfect time to release.

I doubt it's Naughty Dog, but honestly, it could be, with how out of whack and "impossible" this year has been for gaming.

What if it was the Japan Studios Knack team's next game lead by Mark Cerny?

I hope the developer is sucker punch. But their open ended deaifna since sly 1 worries me a little. But the e aren't any reasons why they can't do better than current naughty imo

If you want gameplay plus visuals, sucker punch is probably near the best developer out there for a platformer with this style.

I don't think ND are best suited to make a game like this any more. Honestly, I'd much prefer someone like Sanzaru (Sly Cooper 4), maybe Media Molecule (Tearaway) or the Puppeteer
or Knack
teams at Japan Studio handle a new Crash. Or heck, maybe even give Big Red Button a shot. Sonic Boom may have been utter crap, but I'm sure they would perform much better with a good publisher behind them and the right development tools, budget and timescale.

Oddly, it's weird how a Crash revival is now more likely to be than a Jak & Daxter one.
I think the style and game is a lot less interesting. Honestly

Jak 2 and 3 aren't that great. Good, solid but bad controls on spots like vehicles as well as some boring areas and gameplay.

Crash is just more appealing.

This would be okay with me, as long as Cerny pays attention to what the designers on Crash 1-3 did right and what made those games what they were, and doesn't try to make Knack with Crash in it. He was there for those games, he should know what worked.

Sucker Punch is an interesting choice, but I doubt them as well.

Well I assume sucker punch is working on an open world game but I feel infamous should have had its last game from how the last was just sort of half warm received and for me quite boring honestly.

So, I give it a 30 percent chance.

They are big enough to spend three years working on a crash and sly revival. But yeah that really wouldn't make sense. so what is sucker punch working on..

I wish they were making a more semi path sly one game in map design though. They do much better when the level is part of gameplay.

Holy shit. Didn't realise about the 20th Anniversary. In that Case either PSX next year or E3 in that case.

Everything is coming together.

At the end of the day, even if Crash doesn't return, if we make enough fuss about it, it will come. Just look at FF7, Shenmue and TLG. That trio gives me hope for Crash.

Remember when Hashimoto Shinji trolled us, but after months, FF7 Remake was announced?
Maybe we were trolled during PS Experience, but maybe a few months after they'd bring a huge announcement regarding Crash, just like how Hashimoto Shinji did it.

Maybe E3? /iwanttobelieve

All fine choices. Lovely choices, actually. I'm all team Sanzaru though. Media Molecule for some reason is my bottom of those choices, I don't have Vita or PS4, is Tearaway much better controlling platforming wise than LBP was?

As far as Big Red Button, they have people FROM the original Crash teams. Sonic Boom's issue was publisher-side, from what I can tell. Rushed timeframes, budget issues, etc.

Oddly, it's weird how a Crash revival is now more likely to be than a Jak & Daxter one.

In all seriousness, #TeamSanzaru for me.

It truly is. I'm on for Sanzaru as well.

Sucker Punch is a self-described "One-game-studio."

This is true. But yes, with all things considered, especially with Bruce's posts, I'm expecting E3. His track record combined with the other rumblings and this shirt 'troll' makes me believe.

Agree. Needs to be a PSX tradition :)

What a waste of talent that would be.
From my pespective, making spectacle games instead of gameplay focused ones is a waste of talent. So no matter what they do, one of us will see it as a waste :(.

As much as I like Crash back in the day and if Sony got the IP back, good luck to the team developing the game. I have no clue what direction they will strive for since the game back then won't work today.

Why won't it? I have never understood this. We have Yooka Laylee coming which is exactly the same as Banjo in level design. Which is just as old as Crash Bandicoot.

I think the linear design of Crash's levels will work fine today. As long as there are enough levels, and challenges it will be fine.

Or they can make it more open like Ratchet, but I'd honestly stay away from that as it will directly compete with it.

Fully agree.

Also, it's been mentioned, but of interest is Naughty Dog's current profile picture:

In my eyes 100% meaningless, but "great" timing on their part lol.

Not so sure that's meaningless... If that's their official account, it would be problematic to use another companies IP as their profile picture wouldn't it?

God, could you imagine if a team at Naughty Dog was beavering away on a Crash Bandicoot game right now. That's fan-fiction right there. It'd be 1996 all over again.

Honestly, I was never that big a fan of the Crash games, but I think if they did make a new one it would have to offer more than just running through corridor levels. I know they had side-scrolling levels too, but did the ND games ever do anything other than that? I played the first and second games, but honestly don't remember much about them.

They can add multiplayer mode as Racing (CTR) with the characters from the single player adventure.

NDAs. Would you risk your job to just to disclose something, which you don't have the authority over?
