Minecraft coming to the Wii U eShop next week (Dec. 17)

Wait what? Let me Google this...

Oh dear, YT personalities. Well I look forward to hearing about them getting trounced by the kids.

Kids at home watch tons of disney, they're advertising the crap out of it. Kids are going to want mario kart 8 like crazy. Add minecraft to the system and the fact that nintendo will advertise the crap out of splatoon, and I honestly think 2016 is going to be a huge Wii U year, as odd as that sounds.

I'm already seeing hate for this on the Facebook posts, people telling Nintendo that they need to get a dictionary for the word "big", and claiming this won't have updates or as much content as the Xbox version already.

*nintendo looks up the word big in dictionary*

*nintendo looks at the amount of money they're making off minecraft*

Checks out.

I'm sure there are a decent number of families who only own a Wii U. It's good for them.

That don't own a PC, Smartphone, or Tablet even beyond another console? Highly unlikely.

I mean good for Nintendo, but your really stretching it if you think the vast majority of Wii U owners don't have access to this game on another device.

Why no retail version?

Probably coming later. Minecraft pretty much always launches digitally first.

I'm sure they do, but not everyone enjoys playing on PC and, unless something has changed recently, the mobile version of the game isn't as fully featured. I mean, I guess Mojang should have just stopped with the PC and mobile versions by your logic, instead of releasing on other platforms.

Wait people were expecting more than this? This was by far the most likely announcement. Note how only one random person at Nintendo said to pay attention today, and not Reggie, etc.

Any information on the limitations of this version? Will it be like the PS3/360 versions or PS4/XB1?

I haven't kept up with the patch notes for the console versions so maybe the world limitations have been increased...?

This is cool, but the impact would have been a lot bigger in 2012-2014.

A retail release with nintendo-stuff ready to go at launch would have been 10x more successful if you ask me. A little pre-release hype would have helped too rather than some PR statement 10 days before an eshop release.

Just the constant negativity in most Nintendo threads you post in. You can obviously do what you'd like, but I've certainly noticed it pretty frequently from you recently.

Just check my posts over the last days. Or since Wii U launch. Or check my last year's vote for GAF GOTY. I always enjoyed my Wii U.

Only because I don't praise all the games that Nintendo makes doesn't say anything about me really. And in the end it seems that the games I complained about turned out to be bad according to the general opinion too. I hope I will be contradicted by Star Fox Zero.

Yeah, so only because I don't swallow some bullshit together with my fine meal doesn't make whatever you think it does.

Otherwise, I'm looking forward to read your critics on my arguments regarding Minecraft on Wii U.

$29.99?

Yikes.

For a game as prolific as Minecraft, I'm shocked it's not full priced.

Water under the bridge at this point, and maybe that $20 price-point actually helped the game spread like wildfire and become a cultural phenomena.

But it is crazy to think that the most popular game of the decade (and an entire generation of young gamers) was/is a $19.99 discount download.

Bonkers.

Well there's one family here, my son has been desperately after minecraft for a couple of years, my pc is broke and I wouldn't let him use it for games anyway and no way would I let him ever touch my phone, so the Wii U version is gonna be downloaded this Xmas for him

There's a reason minecraft for consoles is consistently in the best sellers list every single month.

From December 17th on, the Minecraft Miiverse square will never be absent from the community screen on my Wii U.

No doubt, this is going to be a huge seller for Wii U owners.

I'm well aware. Which is why the turn you've taken over the past few months has been surprising. Not necessarily bad, mind you, just surprising.

It's not really the negativity. I've been pretty down on Wii U this year as well. It's like you said earlier, the melodrama, that's been very prevalent. It's just interesting to see, that's all. I'm not even telling you to stop doing it. I simply pointed out something I noticed.

Exactly.

The fact that Nintendo considers this such a big deal shows just how much of a bubble they're in when it comes to third parties.. and I say that as a Nintendo fan.

I would love to hear the inside scoop on why this port took so damn long.

He'll stop doing it fast come Thursday.

And some interesting notes from nintendo.com

http://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/ZTniFoRbFBzllBt3D0Ryhku1SMO28Ekt

The game supports the following languages via an in-game language select function; English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese.

Minecraft WiiU edition will be a first WiiU game that supports Asian Languages outside of Japan.

Seeing microsoft studios on that page is so surreal.

Glad its finally coming to wiiU, day 1 for sure. My kid will love this as they always asking about it for wiiU (i even bought minecraft clone from eshop for them, but they still asks the real thing lol)

Great news. I'm glad it wasn't a Smash direct date as the big news, since that's not really a big deal (unless we didn't already know a Direct was coming). I'm hoping for a retail release or indication of when that's coming.

If Minecraft knock offs can sustain large Miiverse communities just because they're Minecraft knock offs, the real deal is probably going to rival Smash or Splatoon for having the most active Miiverse forum.

Day 1 for the kids in our house. A quadruple-dip. This version MUST have free amiibo skin support, anything else would be a lost opportunity.

It's also good for the parent looking to buy a console for their 5,6,7 year old who is just now learning about minecraft from kids at school. Kids have birthdays every day, meaning every day a new kid learns about the game and wants to buy it.

If I were a parent, i'd choose Wii U as the minecraft machine over the competitors, especially if I had zero interest in playing games myself. Off tv play, other big kids games like mario kart 8 (which is getting a show on disney) and splatoon.
If I were a parent, I'd get my kid a $200 PS3/360 and pay $20 for Minecraft rather than $330 for a Wii U and the game.

One of the biggest ips of the past 5 years is a fairly big deal, also this came from the 3rd party relations guy not an official statement... Maybe the gaf bubble had you?

Would like to know the story though. I assume the porting studio didn't have the bandwidth so only with Microsoft it got boosted ambition and resource.

.

I'm passionate about my passion. For example now I'm overly enjoying Xenoblade X and I can't wait for Fast Racing Neo.

Edit:
He'll stop doing it fast come Thursday.

Nothing stops the complaining train. It just pauses for hours in the X station.

They didn't even reveal the game in a Direct. Some random employee said there would be something "big" on a podcast that some Nintendo fans listen to.

I don't think they're off the mark when MC might have outsold every single release to date on the Wii U just on the X360 or PS3 alone. I mean, MC, across all platforms, is probably the third or second biggest-selling game in history, with this year seeming to be pretty stable across the board in terms of sales, so it's not a phenomenon on the wane even if a Ninty platform didn't get a version until just now.

Mobile version stopped being shit tier a while ago. I can tell you haven't kept up though.

Also if it had launched in tandum with the other platforms that would be one thing. It's last in line though. It's not like the Wii U version launched in line with the PS3/4and Xbone/360 versions.

My son owns 3 different copies already. I'm not sure he's gonna be like yeah I'll get a 4th.

Their indie guy said it was something "big".

And it is, especially for their "indie guy".

It was not hyped really, just a "oh by the way, look forward to this" on some podcast.

But none of those versions launched simultaneously either.

And this clearly isn't being aimed at the kid who already owns three versions. Come on dad. Though if he already owns three SKUs, I wouldn't be surprised if he buys a 4th, to be honest.

There is literally no reason to not have Minecraft on every platform it can run on.

I would be all over playing Minecraft on the Wii U gamepad, but... $30? Oh, wow. No, thank you. I'll stick with my alpha-bought PC version.

It's funny that this will be the best selling 3rd party game on Wii U and it's from Microsoft.

It's not really fair to say that Minecraft is Microsoft's product, as technically correct as that may be.

Well it's not like there's any competition.

It was a comment from the indie guy on a podcast about a Nintendo platform getting the most successful indie game. It's your fucking fault for expecting anything like a NX, Smash or Pokemon announcement.
