Fast Racing Neo Review Thread

Kinda surprised by the high scores honestly. Thought it looked great in trailers but was afraid the game-play itself would reveal itself to be lacking. Glad to have been wrong!

It's cool to know that online is fun.

I didn't even expect online.

Probably because they are made up of around 5 people.

Well heck, I thought the game looked pretty good from the beginning, but I didn't expect these glowing reviews. I can't be spending any more money this month, but I guess I'd better put it down as a "buy later."

Yeah, just keep it in mind, the game has been 3 years in the making.

Unless of course you don't like the genre.

Positive review from The Verge

Futuristic racing games don’t have much hope for the future. With the closure of Studio Liverpool, Sony has abandoned the Wipeout series, all but ensuring 2012’s Wipeout 2048 on the Vita is the last Wipeout you’ll ever play. Nintendo, meanwhile, seems to have forgotten that F-Zero exists: outside of a downloadable stage for the most recent Mario Kart, there hasn’t been a new console release since the Gamecube era. There have been a few attempts to rekindle the flame, including a handful of mobile titles, but none have managed to really capture that magic that made those two series so beloved. But a new indie game has managed to finally do just that: Fast Racing Neo on the Wii U.

The track design is probably the best part of the game. Sixteen tracks isn’t a lot, but they’re all varied, and often full of wild surprises that fit well with the sci-fi theme. The desert track has a giant sandworm jumping over the road while you race; a futuristic city level features robotic spider creatures stomping the ground, forcing you to speed around them. There are beautiful snowscapes, cyberpunk cities, and dense jungles. You'll drive under waterfalls and across swinging bridges. And all of it looks absolutely incredible, as do the cool, hovering machines you’ll be racing. Fast Racing Neo also runs incredibly smooth, despite the fact that there’s so much happening, and so quickly.

It’s not quite the same as a new F-Zero, but Fast Racing Neo is the next best thing. It’s slick, fast, and fun, and while a bit lightweight in terms of tracks and vehicles (it’s also only $14.99), it’s the best futuristic racing game outside of the big two. Fast Racing Neo won’t make you forget about Wipeout, but it will help you cope with the loss.

Wow, I didn't expect amazing scores. Must buy.

With this and Xenoblade X, Wii U's december is better than expected.

This looks pretty cool, but I'm gonna be busy with XCX for a while.

What are the odds we'll get Fast Racing Neo X in a year?

Not great but nothing's impossible.

I guess the releases Nano Assault on the PS4 and it didn't light up the sales charts.

I don't know why but I saw Playstation in your post, I need sleep.

Either way, I doubt it.

It was there, but I edited it out right after I posted it, I'm genuinely curious about it getting a release, I just didn't want to derail it in to people complaining about me "port begging".

I have NAN on Wii U and PS4 and definitely played it more on PS4, but that was more a timing window than anything else.

FAST Racing Neo X = FAST Racing NX

It's prophecy.

That's a good point really, given their affinity for nintendo development, I'm sure they have something they're prepping for NX launch.

This is from your own playtime?

Yeah, no big deal and thank you for clearing that up as I was seriously questioning my sanity.

They could make games for the PS4 but they seem to hit all the right spots on Nintendo platforms.

The problem I see with reviewers is that they are comparing it to Fzero although it is trying to be its own game. It is unfortunate but it is still getting high scores.

Those comparisons are inevitable.

Besides Wipeout, F-Zero is the only huge name in the genre.

All I can say is that the first one didn't play like F-Zero.

Glad to hear it turned out well. Jett Rocket II was pretty atrocious despite being technically solid.
Hope they find success

Great reviews and pretty in line with the impressions from the demo they had at different shows. Everything points at this game being a real gem. It seems that on Thursday I will take a small break from Xenoblade X.
