Polyphony Digital website revamped; Sales data updated to September 2015

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
I like how they waited until GT6 surpassed GT PSP.

Yeah, I found that funny. Just edging by the PSP game.

GT5's long development time definitely hurt 6 along with the generation change.

If they are done using car count as a selling point GT7 will have my attention. Saying GT6 has over 1000 cars when in fact 700 or so of them are either PS2 ports or different versions of Skylines, Supras, RX7's etc is bullshit.

I want consistency from Polyphony this time.

Damn those GT6 numbers. Why they released it on PS3 when they did will always be beyond me. The game has preformance issues also on PS3 where you basically have an option between dealing with a lower frame-rate, or dealing with screen tearing. Plus I disliked how they handle the cups now, you don't get prize cars really anymore and that took out alot of the joy of finishing first in all the cups and stuff.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Interesting that GT5 is the second best selling GT game ever.

Sooo, Grand Turismo 6 ships Dec 2013 on systems with an (at the time around 40+ million) U.S install base and doesn't make the NPD top ten in its debut month. But, some how it continue to be sold over the next 2 years. Hmm, you mean to tell me that a game that didn't sell well initially wasn't taken off the market, but was continually sold and is now at almost 5M. Sucks that same thing can't be said about games on a certain platform. I hear games sells on this platform only matter the first month of its launch. After that its repeated ad nauseum as flop, even a year or more after its debut. Interesting...

Seeing grown men act like toddlers throwing a tantrum is one of the best things to come out of this gen thus far. :p

As for the topic at hand, is there any other IP that statistically has as long legs as GT? It's the sort of game which just keeps plugging away.
As far as I'm concerned releasing GT6 on PS3 was a terrible decision, so the fact it's still managed to make its way to 4.7 million after 2 years surprises me.

What do you mean? Plenty of people, myself included, waited for the GT6 remastered that's "suppose" to come out on ps4.

Cars sounding like vacuum cleaners.
Tons and tons of cars that were mostly the same, not enough Premium modeled cars, mostly used from PS2 assets.

No way should that have been on a next-gen console.

Plus, they never said it was coming to PS4, it was ever so slightly hinted at.

Finally we can put those sub 2.5M rumours to rest.

In hindsight, we all know that launching on ps3 only hurt the game but it wasn't that obvious in 2013. The franchise will recover from this imo.

Why the huge drop off in gt6 sales compared to gt5?

As mentioned, it released the same period as the PS4 launch, which had a lot of hype and attention so GT6's release more or less got buried. I also think skepticism of the game's quality itself was marred by the failures of GT5, even though it definitely improved on almost every issue that GT5 suffered from.

I don't think it was delayed. Just unprepared for how quick the audience has migrated, not to mentioned just getting lost in the fanfare of new consoles.
I always thought it was delayed. I can't imagine them planning to release at PS4X1 launch.

Really looking forward to GT Sport. Whatever it is it sounds like the structure will be changed from the usual GT structure, which can only be a good thing. I like the FIA cooperation which should mean realistic racing championships to take part in, not the bloody Clubman Cup or whatever nonsense! Also they hired a UI guy from Driveclub I believe which can also only help things. I hope they aim to reduce loading times a la Driveclub as well, that would be fantastic. Obviously I expect the best racing visuals you can get at 60fps, they've always been master of the tech available like the other Sony 1st party studios, I expect this to wipe the floor with Foeza and Project Cars, quite frankly, while offering the usual fantastic time of day changes that made Gt5 still look pretty incredible today at times.

Bring it on.

Oh and the small matter of VR :

Make it and it will sell, clearly!

Pretty good numbers for GT6 considering the timing. Have seen it being sold at huge discounts for a long time though.

I've bought GT 1-5 and prologue but I didn't bother with GT6, seemed too much like 5 and GT5 took a very long time to come out. They pretty much got what they could out of PS3 so GT6 was like some refined anniversary edition not even probably worth the GT6 name in my view. It keeps the two main games per gen cycle going.

I'm completely onboard for GT Sport as I was GT5 prologue.

With PS3 they had GTHD at launch and GT5 Prologue in the first year (demo Oct 2007, game Dec 2007 import). I'm shocked that it's 2 years into PS4 and still nothing hence no PS4 bought.

Wow 4.7 mil with all the circumstances not in their favor

GT is a heavy hitter

Any numbers on the console sales boosts each release has provided for its respective console?

GT5 second biggest, GT6 hopefully will truck above GT5 Prologue, still shame to see what happened with that game.

Hopefully GT Sport will get closer to that 10 million golden standard.

I always thought it was delayed. I can't imagine them planning to release at PS4X1 launch.

I don't think it was delayed. All the pre-release material from the time the game was announced in May 2013 stated that the game would be coming out late Fall of that year. Right on 3 years from GT5, and 2 years from Spec 2.0, which falls in line with the normal dev time for the Gran Turismo series.

I think Sony just overestimated how well the Gran Turismo name could stand up to the wave of enthusiasm for their shiny new toy. But like I said GT6's development was paid over many times over by the success of GT5P and GT5. Maybe Sony just didn't care about hitting a specific sales number for 6, just wanted to get it out the door, close out the system with a bang, and recoup whatever sales they could.

I will echo the feeling that i didn't expect to see GT6 nearing 5 million, its indeed a big drop from the nearly 12 million GT5 number but it is possible for GT6 to close out at 5.5 or 6 million. Very much looking forward to GTSport, i have every hope that they are taking a different direction and GTsport will deliver. Even if it doesn't, it will still sell a ton.

Wow @ GT5 selling ~12M o_O

I hope the clean design of the new website translates over to GT Sport.

Considering the recent changes and new hiring's it definitely would translate over, overall i think GT Sport will be the most radical change in GT formula since the series began.

Holy crap GT5 sold almost 12 million copies (& 17 million if you include prologue), that's nearly 2 million units since the GT6 announcement.

Now I'm confident that GT Sport will easily sell 10+ million.

So last gen Polyphony shipped over 26.5 million units of software. Very impressive.

I remember reading an article on kotaku saying it's time Sony shut down polyphony after GT5 was delayed or something. Insanely shortsighted.

You put together Forza 3,4,5 & 6 and compare GT 5P,GT5 and GT6 and GT will probably have sold more. GT Sport will shift very good numbers no doubt!

GT5 is the 2nd best selling GT ever? wow. Also lol at the GT5 prologue selling more than GT6. Whoever made the decision of releasing the game on the PS3 at the time should be fired.

Seems the GT franchise bottoms out at ~4.5m. GT Sport should pull some nice numbers. And GT7 should be a return to form.
