Account name, email, phone number, purchases.

Financial institutions are sometimes delayed with posting transactions, especially with the holidays.

Did you buy anything previously?

I can confirm that a lot of stuff I bought on the 23rd showed up on my account (same bank as his) today on the 25th. Some still pending as well.

so, what are you supposed to besides not do anything? Like, I have the Steam app open on my computer still, should it be off? Is it too late? Does it even matter?

Good thing is that my CC account is almost empty. Plus I need to confirm every purchase with SMS to the bank...

As a reminder, some transactions take a couple days to process. I bought Pac-Man CE DX a few days back and it only appeared on my statement last night. Make sure to cross reference your bank transaction history with the purchase confirmation email from Steam, before jumping to any conclusions.

I remember we had a thread about how garbage steam support was and folks were saying steam doesn't need a big support staff because Valve makes games.

Pretty rational to go "hey I'm in XYZs account not mine WTF" its not the users responsibility in this scenario.

Makes more sense to me than posting bullet points you don't even know are true over and over.

Potentially compromise an account, versus citing the limited information we have so people are aware of what is going on?

I don't know man, you might have trouble backing your argument up.

What is the most prudent thing to do at this point?

- Don't login into Steam (I don't think you can?)
- Unlink your paypal account (if any) from the Paypal website.
- If you had CC details saved on Steam, maybe report it as stolen, or report the incident to your bank, just to be safe.

/v/ isn't doing anything more than collectively shitting themselves and posting lewd anime girls in an attempt to stay calm.

Listen I saw it posted on Reddit and just wanted people to STAY SAFE AND change everything and be careful.

I'm also checking 4chan /v/ and /b/ and they are showing peoples CC info, paypal, everything, they are doxxing people they got cached.

It's not spreading panic, it's a realistic scenario. The image could be fake for all we know, but I'm looking at people's CC info on 4chan right now.

I think the point was that a) those are some of the least credible places on the internet, and b) generally it's not a good idea to post unsubstantiated information in a situation like this.

To anyone downplaying the breach, I humby recommend publicly posting your physical address, phone number, last digits of cc, and email address.

Even for "only an hour."

See how little that breach feels.

I just find it annoying people are dismissing everything as shopped WHEN multiple people across different websites are reporting monetary funds being used.

Is there any way to verify that information though?

If not, I would take it with a grain of salt.

Let me be clear, yes this is a fucked-up situation, but is suddenly every tom, dick & harry's story 100% factual automatically?

Yeah dismissing the fact that shit has been bought is stupid. However. Is the purchase going to *your* account if someone is buying it through your account?

If so, can't you just refund it easily thanks to Valve's new refund policy? Not defending them, this is a fucking ridiculous thing to happen and people should be pissed.

Alright here is another one:

Happy? IT'S A REAL SCENARIO! JESUS FUCK!

There is a time to be cautious, and there is a time to be realistic about the situation at hand. It's not that far fetched.

It isn't that far fetched, but the problem is that when you're posting stuff second hand and you don't offer a source, no one has a chain of trust, and it creates panic. There's no doubt this is serious and if the payment thing is true then it's a big deal, but when you just breathlessly repeat stuff you see online you can contribute to miscommunication about what actually happened. My account is one of the ones that was affected by this, so you can understand that I'm nervous -- but it doesn't help me if I don't know what's going on. It's absolutely Valve's responsibility to communicate this to me, but in the mean time we should be vigilant about whose stories we choose to repost. This is much better because you have a source and you are being clear about it.
