Psvr and Porn: The Elephant in the Room

The PS4 will get a Plex like VR player that will let you view any 360 degree videos. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if Plex added this capability themselves. The only issue might be getting videos from commercial DRM'd sources as that likely won't be built into the app.
The player does not just have to play 360 videos, it also has to be able to play stereoscopic 360 videos.

To expound on what I said earlier... Sony will definitely have their own video app that will let you stream or download a curated set of 360 degree and/or 3D videos. It stands to reason this app will also have an option to play your own videos of a USB device. This is basically what Milk VR does (on an Android phone you create a folder called "Milk VR" and throw your 'nature videos' in there) and it works great.
They will probably do that too, but in my experience streaming may not give you the quality you're going to want.

Yeah, for some reason I was thinking this mirrors the whole Betamax vs VHS in certain ways...first vr to make porn accessible wins? I think Sony learned a valuable lesson there, they'll find a way to get it in through the back door.

The PSVR works in a predictable way, it's a single 1080p screen. It should be possible to do that in the website itself.
On a different note.
There were actually some websites that supported the Wii controller in such a way that you could play games on it.
As trivial as it sounds, can either PS3 or PS4 media players play 3D videos aside 3D blu-ray discs?

Sure, PS4 can play side by side 3D video, it's just normal video with 1 picture for each eye put side by side.
My TV will auto translate that into 3D video.
It is not the TV who does the work, it has to be the media player who separates the 2 video tracks.
Blu-ray players can do that, I really doubt PS4 media player can do it from any random .mp4 or .mkv.
Also, Sony does not list it as a capability of the media player.

EDIT: Maybe with 3D TVs is different, my experience so far with DK2 is that I nead a 3D enabled player to play side by side videos.

There is no separate video track, it's just a normal one track video like normal video, but have 2 image for each eye.

And most 3D TV will out put them like they are 3D video if you choice side by side mode. Or some TV can auto detect and do it for you.

A 3D video isn't two video tracks, it's a single video with a dividing point in the middle where the image repeats. The milk vr player just needs to be told how the video is oriented and then it shifts the image. There's no reason why the PS4 couldn't do it.
I meant it is the video player who has to cut the video in half, not the device.
At least with DK2 it is that way.
It seems with 3D TVs is different.

I'm pretty sure is the device do all the job cause no way my USB storage could do that when I play those file on TV.
That's why I'm sure PSVR with that break out box able to do something similar, maybe it's easier for PSVR cause you already have separate "screen" area for each eye.
Sony just have to support side by side 360 video, porn is just side effect.

I'd imagine it depends on the type of file.
You should be able to make 2D files to do stereoscopic 3D, because that's the way VR works.
I don't know why people think they won't be able to do this.

IRC, when Netflix was first released on consoles you had to get a disc from them rather than download the app from the store directly. The same thing will likely happen with porn companies, order a disc from them, boot it up and stream your VR porn.
I dunno guys but when I get VR in my place, the only elephant in the room will be a certain part of my body.

Adult content, among with other content like unofficial mods etc. that won't see the light of day on a family friendly console is certainly one big reason why I wouldn't settle for PSVR only. The breadth of "interesting experiences" that PC allows is much larger than the amount of curated "safe" entertainment content PSVR will ever have.
As far as VR porn is considered, I think stuff like 360 (or even 180) video of otherwise standard porn scene is the most limited vision of what you could do with the device. I think there's a lot of opportunity for some sort of interaction, and I'm sure animated and/or 3D content gets a lot more appeal when you can implement more interaction to the experience than with a canned video. Though I suppose even video could be spliced together to give some interactivity.

It's certainly the reason that PSVR could never be my main VR platform. Not the porn, that's better served on my GearVR behind a door with a lock that I trust lol. But the rest of the experimental, innovative and unofficial shit that comes to PC. PSVR will serve it's purpose with wacky and quirky games that I know Sony will bring along with same-room VR multiplayer. I could see that being a good selling point and I hope they focus a decent amount of resources on it.
I've definitely tried to back up a few times lol

As I've said before, the PSVR is just the headset and a breakout box that accepts HDMI input and does Post-processing.
It will have been hacked to work on PC, (and have an Oculus/SteamVR SDK plugin) within DAYS of it coming out.

(EDIT: Well, does it actually count as porn if it wasn't produced with the intent to be sexually stimulating?) What you mean is elephant-on-human (or human-on-elephant) porn and TBH, even if that were legal, I doubt it'd be possible from a mechanical/logistical standpoint... well, maybe if the elephant was under anaesthesia...?

Not really a deal breaker for me, I mean I'm excited for VR and I like porn but meh. Sure its probably emersive but if I want to "feel" like I'm there then I'll get ma jig on with the wife.
I have no doubt it will be massive though and fair play to those who want to get their VR KY on, but it's not for me. Not sure if it will be on PSVR though, maybe as others have said it might be viable on USB or web. Doubt we'd see it on the store though.

Ps4 is cheap enough to buy an extra for your "private" space.
well if you are into it. I dont think it will be any different than howd it would be done with all other devices. They arent going to have XXX category on the Steam or Oculus store either. You either stream it on a website, or manually load the videos onto the PS4, and watch it through a player.
The only limiting thing would be if there are 3d polygon XXX apps. That likely wont be possible on PSVR.
