A controlled leak.
I first read that as "controller leak" and I was like: Damm, Rösti's detective game is on fire lol

Oh :(

Who's going crazy? Folk are just joking around, it's just a bit of fun.

The thread has actually had some great info and discussion imo.

Some people just hate speculation and any signs of people being positive about anything, or having fun is seen as "going insane" *cue zany music*. I like speculation threads, they are usually pretty fun and interesting. And if you read them closely, you can see the leakers and the picture they usually paint.

I'm pretty sure some people are just annoyed that Ideaman just came and posted nothing of substance in order to generate a reaction. I mean, to me it seemed like a clear cry for attention.

He was already getting (negative) attention. It's kind of hard to sit by idly when people are trash talking you. Then, there are the others that are clamoring for more info.

I fall in the second group, but I don't know if he has any sources these days. What, say you Ideaman? How've you been?

But he didn't even post anything of substance. He might as well have sat idly. The search feature is difficult to use on mobile for me, so forgive me if I'm wrong, but he wasn't really being trashed before he posted. And even if he were, was "mmh" supposed to be some defense? It just seemed like he wanted attention, especially after Arkam came and gave us a morsel. If he's going to say something, fine, but as it is, it sounded more like a "I'm here too guys, don't forget about me." And it was eaten up.

If I remember correctly ideaman was one a few sources (from hundreds over the internet) that had some real information about WiiU. He made always clear what his information was and what his speculation.

The hype came from people who misinterpreted his words, probably the same people who now say how "wrong" he was.

I remember back in the day when people were still quoting the 1.5 tflops figures for Wii U and spinning all sorts of crazy shit. Wound up talking to a friend of mine in Austin one day and he told me that a friend of his was working with a devkit and that the visuals were basically just PS3/360 caliber and that it wasn't powerful at all. Course I didn't really wanna believe it at the time, given all the spec talk here, and... well, we all know how that turned out :l

That said, I'm not gonna pay any heed whatsoever to any so called "insiders" here. We'll all know soon enough just what the NX is any way.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey. Its 2012 all over again!

it's actually tripping me out how similar this feels

that was 4 years ago but it feels like 4 months ago

not ready for another hype cycle full of silence on nintendo's part. hopefully they don't make that mistake again considering the thing should be out in 11 months.

You should casually talk to that friend again.. see if they've learned anything new.

Waiting for NX leaks
NDA must be absolutely insane, even for Nintendo I'd imagine. This thing is rumored to come out within the next 12 months and nobody (NOBODY) has any clue on what this thing is supposed to be...

I praise and curse Nintendo for this achievement
Uncontrolled unfounded hype based on some vague things nintendo said, a three word post from a guy who leaked about the Wii U, and rumours.
Three letter* lol

It's like time travel isn't it? We're going to get hyped again and once again be disappointed when the console is below our expectations...

After 3DS and Cafe leaks, I don't blame them for having strict NDAs.

With this Nintendo, NDAs about Hw platforms are really funny because the same Nintendo - with a 30 minute long Direct - will easily show or anticipate the whole generation Sw side.

Yall are going to get this thread closed then have to wait for the next translated analysts prediction to talk abour it again lol. Funny how a console thats being revealed this year you not allowed to talk about it on this site for "too long"

But it really is too long, we often know nothing of Nintendo's hardware until AFTER the release because of how little info they give. People often have to do a full tear down of the hardware and even then we do not know all aspects of the GPU or CPU until a few weeks after.

It doesn't help that other companies seem to have leakers from high up that somehow generate more hype with their leaks, something that hasn't happened with Nintendo's hardware in years.

I think the main issue is enthusiasts that want to know more about the hardware but are often unable to. Of course it's in just a year, but having a complete lack of info hurts enthusiasts.

The same way it's been done before. You give subtly different information to each developer and see what leaks.

That's only if they try to leak nitty gritty details. There's a lot of stuff that would be essential knowledge(like Wii U gamelan having a screen inside).

Back on-topic, perhaps we'll get a teaser reveal a few months in advance (along the lines of what the PS4 got in February 2013), with a full blow-out for the NX device(s) in June. It's just that waiting to show off the NX Platform for the first time at E3 would be cutting it a bit too close in terms of generating hype.

It's really neat that we might get our first solid NX information in less than a month.

Man, time flies.

Yup if this Nomura Securities person is right, Nintendo will def tell us their plans on how they will start to release NX info at this meeting come up on Feb 2nd

Prob announce the reveal for March and then say E3 will have first hands on and big blowout

No way investors will let them get away with not saying anything again, they said 2016 they will give NX info, and its 2016 now

IdeaMan's posting in the old WUST was borderline masturbatory. I believe his only real info was that the GamePad was switched to analog sticks from nubs, and he even got scooped on that.

Anyways, it can't be long now. Purely from a company and stock performance perspective, Nintendo can't waste much time. Iwata brought a lot of cover, but that's gone now.

The stock movement is more tied to China blowing up the world market than anything. Everything is down, and down by a lot too.

Not at all. In the past IHVs have given us different codenames, and different physical casements. You remeber the dazzle camouflage MS used for our Durango devkits? We spent a bit of time trying to tell if they were different between lots or not, just out of curiosity.

I just want them to confirm the clickable/scrolling shoulder buttons.

Give us that!

I think it's a neat idea (I skipped out on the recent thread)...but are scrolling shoulder wheels really necessary? Don't we already have several decent ways to scroll through lists in normal shoulder buttons and the d-pad? Of course, I speculate they will be going for a very minimalist button configuration, so maybe they'll ditch the D-pad this go round.

Also, what if Nintendo pulled a Gamecube controller and only gave us 1 wheel like the "Z" button? Haha

Could be used for analog camera zooms, which we don't have a good solution for yet.

1 Z-wheel would be one of those classic "wtf, Nintendo" type things but it wouldn't be too terrible. If its used for zoom, menu selection, etc. I guess you don't really need two.

I'm definitely expecting something to come out of the investor's meeting, but I'm not expecting it to be anything other than "We will reveal NX in _____ and then have a big show at E3 to reveal software."

Ah yes, that's a good idea. This might be important for shooters, especially if they're trying to reduce face buttons.

Yeah, I think even 1 would probably be good enough. I do like symmetrical controls ideally, but it doesn't seem to be an issue for most people. Two wheels would be cool, though, as you could scroll through different categories on either side. I'm playing through The Witcher 3 right now and could see a couple of wheels being useful for magic and useables.

I also really want those Scroll wheels, a bit iffy on the freeform display.

I feel like they'd be nuts to try the freeform display for the home console. The handheld, fine, but they can't include it with every stationary NX box. The Gamepad uses what we assume to be dirt cheap screen tech, and they still couldn't keep costs down. And they released that comparably-powered console 7 years late to the party! If NX is going to be comparable to the Xbox One, say, it just seems impossible to price the package competitively with such a novel technology.

Not trying to sound rude, but as a veteran poster in the old WUSTs, whenever I think back to those insane days and IdeaMan, all I can remember is tiresome and endless pages of teasing and winking from him in between occasional bursts of real info from others like John Harker confirming clickable sticks and lherre correctly scoffing at those who thought there would be 2-3 GB of memory, just to name a few examples. Whether or not IdeaMan had info that might have been correct at some point, I don't recall him ever confirming anything major that actually ended up in the verified, final build of the system.

Why do you think the home console will have a screen at all?

In my opinion the handheld will probably have gamepad functionality and it will be a nice bonus for those who own both, but the home console won't have a screen on the controller.

That could actually be a great incentive to get people to buy both NX form factors. Then again, Sony tried to do the same thing with the Vita.

They would be nuts. They are gonna put the bare minimum into the box, i mean power brick, console and controller. 3DS style. Gonna wanna have a ton of shelf space.
