You haven't even seen The Revenant? Wow. The film you referred to as Reveshit over and over, you haven't even seen!

Cause it's better than those.

In 5 years The Revenant is gonna be some crazy tale of a movie going over budget and over schedule to achieve some kind of on-screen madness, and another notch in Lubezki's cinematography belt. I don't believe time will be kind to the movie overall though.

Spotlight will have a long life in procedural/journalist film recommendations, Carol is beautiful in pretty much every way, and Fury Road is as unanimously praised as possible as a genre classic in today's cynical and hyperbole laden landscape.

The Oscar stuff is just icing on the cake. It's a shame Leo's finally gonna win his Oscar from a film by this guy.
Did he rape a family member of yours? Your hate hard-on for him is hella strong, you seem to need a ton of release to soften that sucker up.

Instead of rushing off the people that won the award, why don't you cut out the minutes you waste showing trailers for movies up for a nomination.

Mad Max being nominated is surprising enough. It's like the Avengers movie, no matter how well it's received critically it will never be an award winner for movie of the year.

"I only saw one of the noms, so that's the one that should win! WHAT? It didn't win?! It was robbed! Whatever these awards don't mean anything anyway, I didn't care in the first place!"

Rinse and repeat.

I've seen all the Comedy noms and only missed out on Revenant, Carol, and Room. I'm checking out the former two this week, and will see Room whenever it actually hits my area.

And there's a reason I'm seeing The Revenant guys, and I'll go into it with an open mind like I always do. That said, I'm upset tonight, and if I end up liking the film, I'll gladly eat crow (although I doubt it'll be better than Mad Max or Spotlight.)

This is like when the fans turn on their own team and start throwing debris onto the field. The people have turned on OP. RIP in pieces Toothless

Sicario really deserves cinematography. Or Hateful Eight.

So many well shot movies this year. Mad Max, Sicario, Hateful Eight, It Follows, The Assassin, Ex Machina, hell I was even impressed with The Force Awakens. It's too bad for all those that The Revenant is one of the most beautiful ever (imo) and almost a sure lock.

You haven't even seen The Revenant but you shat all over it? Open mind, sure.

There's a ton of movies every year that deserve to win an award but don't, it's just how it is. Show appreciation for them by watching them and getting others to watch them, not getting hung up over a few statues that all start to blur together the more you see them handed out.

Lol, um I'm well aware of the movie industry & the awards game but thanks.

Forgive me for being a bit disappointed that two movies I adored lost in every category they were nominated in. Forgot nobody does that ever.

I've seen the entirity of the man's work besides The Revenant (and I'm seeing that tomorrow, sadly), and the man hasn't made a single film I'd consider quality.

You sound insufferable. I hope to god you are going to the movies alone and nobody has the misfortune of watching a movie with you that you don't even want to go see but are going anyway cause "reasons".

At least Stallone picked up an award, total waste outside of that. I guess the Globes wanted to make up for not giving Birdman the top prize last year. They did pretty well with Boyhood and Grand Budapest Hotel winning the big ones. Too bad the Oscars fucked it up later on.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Rami Malek was robbed. If Mad Men wasn't ending, I feel like he'd have gotten the award that's rightly deserved.

This film stands no chance for you already. The director already killed your dog and all his films are sub par quality to you.

An open mind? You already called the movie shit

They really need to add a sci fi / fantasy category, it dominates the box office and public imaginations and I know I'd care a lot more about that category than the others.

If Toothless doesn't come back tomorrow and make his own thread review about the Revenant I'm going to be very upset

The Revenant had some amazing editing as well. I couldn't get over how well paced the movie was. How it moved between the different plots of different characters. How it would diverge into Leo reminiscing about his son and wife in between trials and feats. I was completely enthralled. Tarantino does stuff that nobody is going to touch or try, and it's super fun. The Revenant achieved something that I don't see done often, even when it's something that could be find more easily throughout film.

No way. They both looked nice, but The Revenant and Mad Max are so much more deserving.

I know everyone keep pulling for Deakins to win (as I do too), but Lubezki is consistently outshining him year after year.

Perhaps I shouldn't have called the movie shit, or Leo crap. I'll take those losses. But Inarritu gives me no reason to be expecting anything good.

And you know what, these awards aren't so bad. It's kinda obvious they just felt the need to make up for Birdman, so you know what? Maybe the Revenant will be good. I like Tom Hardy. I like Chivo. Has at least two things going for it.

inarritu is a very talented director who, usually, makes technically proficient and well-acted films. but those films are also always (birdman excepted) garbage and therefore is a garbage director

Disgusting that The Revenant will be above TFA for a single day. It looks terrible. At least Ride Along 2 or Kung Fu Panda 3 would be amusing films to end TFA's reign; Revenant... blah!

It means I don't see the actor in the character. Like Heath Ledger as the Joker, or Daniel Day Lewis as anyone.

I thought she was incredible in SLP, and very good in Joy. The latter was a fairly average to good movie, but her performance in my opinion carried it. Also regarding her always playing herself (as someone else mentioned), my post earlier.

I think the Jlaw from Joy is a very different type of character (more subdued, passive, full of melancholy) to the Jlaw in Silver Linings Playbook (fiery, irrational, aggressive, funny, full of bluster).

Bruh, you can't watch a movie with an "open mind" now that you've shat all over it. You know what's gonna happen? You're going to nitpick the shit out of it and find every flaw you can.

You can post anything you want about the movie, but this is going to be what you'll be doing the whole time you're watching and thinking about afterwards.

I don't even think The Revenant is bad, don't get me wrong. It's like faux Malick doing an action-thriller. Visually arresting and technically kinda insane. At the same time, it's a high octane, lean experience stretched out to 150 minutes so Inarritu can trick people into thinking it's more than a simple revenge/survival tale. Best picture? Nah. Best director? Nah.
