You could map the change in anime style from 80's to now just with Marth character art alone. It's pretty crazy to think about cause his design has had so many different changes and alterations by many artists in official capacity from games, anime and cards.

The one I posted earlier was the Marth from the original Famicom release, the SNES box art is from the 90's.

I really liked Masamune Shirow's take. Intelligent Systems should have kept him around.

You know that scene in the Simpsons where Homer's on the boat and says "It's my first day" in various languages, and the penguins react by laughing and leaping into the ocean?

That's pretty much my reaction to this ending.
Mine is the Simpsons one where a random guy goes "Are you being sarcastic, dude?" "I don't even know anymore." Perfect for this video.
Edit: Correction
The correct term would be "Creeper" . But to be honest i've seen my share of assholes on both sides, which is why i usually for the most point just lurk in the threads. I see the same faces every time though and soon enough everyone else will notice the same arguments made by the same people in different threads.
It's like poetry, it rhymes.

Can someone translate this?

Nothing important is said. It's mostly just posting "GAF's" reaction and then some people fanboying out over us not getting how wonderful all the seiyuus are etc etc.

No I'm not doing more. I shouldn't even be doing this.

Anyway, read up.

Yeah I do not believe people are wrong that some of us that are criticizing this for the skeeve wouldn't want these games to have them at all. Me? I think it's skeevy. I think a lot is skeeve. Many of my favourite games have questionable content. I deal with it by ignoring it or just walking away. End of story.

Anyway, yeah I'm trying to get over how fucked up this is. Game is neither FE or SMT and for those saying Persona. Yeah perhaps a little bit of the tone but it still looks and plays closer to DDS. I'm not really qualified to say it's 100% so since I'll probably not play this game until it's localized since my hobbit can't sit next to me all the time to translate every text bit for me. I really should just take out those vacation months I have left and try to get a stable ground in Japanese...I wont :p

So yeah disappointed it doesn't look anything of the initial tease 3 years ago. I can deal with that. I thought Persona 3 looked shitty, I ended up liking the game. I thought Persona 4 looked even shittier. It's one of my favourite games ever, mostly thanks to Kanji and Naoto's arcs. Be yourself you lovely kids. In other words. I'm going in to this game knowing already that I think it looks like shit. Knowing that the premise looks even shittier. Perhaps I'll like it, perhaps I wont but at least it wasn't just that initial tease then a release. If I had bought it that way...I would probably written another letter to Nintendo, a Pen and paper letter, telling them how disappointed they have made me. Again.

Anyway screw this. I'm home. half day. I'm gonna play some path of Radiance.

I can't wait to get my hands on this game. The art direction, the theme, and the battle system are all looking great. I honestly don't understand all the outrage surrounding this game. I've played the designers' other games and I faith in their ability to craft a fun game. To each his own I guess.

This game is getting pretty great reviews. Why is everyone so disappointed?

It's taking some well loved franchises and doing something new and very different with them, rather than just fan service for both inspiring titles.

Which is fair, really. I mean that pretty much describes what Hyrule Warriors was, and that was brilliant.

I'm delighted though personally. I absolutely love the bright colours, fabulous, musical approach and Persona vibes it gives off, and it just looks amazing. It'd be hard for this not to be my top WiiU game ever at this point quite frankly.

I just watched the video, and as they would say on fark...

I have the strangest boner right now.

...

Seriously, I have no idea what I just watched but it was glorious and while I was planning on getting the game I was not prepared for that level of awesome craziness. I need more silliness in my video games.

did u know: in nippon (tl note: nippon means japan) it is considered perfectly normal for an oniichan to rub his oneechan's body all over and then she blushes and says she loves her oniichan because he makes her heart go doki doki, and this is just normal japanese family relations a baka gaijin wouldn't understand

Fire Emblem was only slightly anime in the beginning, Awakening made it full anime and now #FE is super-anime

Some people can't handle that

also something something SMT
Fire Emblem was always full anime. It's just that anime has changed in the last couple of decades.

It's actually closer to 3 decades now. And the computational power lets things look much more anime too. The in game art for FE ( https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/03/Fe1screenshot.png ) looks about as much like early western military strategy as it does like anime (even though the concept art shows that they probably would have made it very late 80s/90s style anime if they had the ability). When a console game goes for an anime aesthetic now it actually looks like modern anime even handhelds can do pretty anime looking stuff for things like 2D platformers and such. That does tend to make people more sensitive to it. Though I've got to say the drawing of Marth the NES cover is actually pretty terrible by current sense of aesthetics, and the SNES one is only a little better.

The crux of the matter, yeah. However, the original stuff was going more for Record of Lodoss War and this new stuff seems to pull more from stuff like K-On and Idolmaster, so it's still a significant change in influence beyond just the natural evolution of the medium.

Was considering buying a Wii U for this game but every time I see more info on this game it just looks more and more like kuso...

This is probably going to go down as one of Atlus' worst title

Despite the fact it has great reviews and a really interesting combination of SMT an FE battle systems?

I get that people are turned off by the idol stuff, but the game itself is pretty fucking great.

As someone who doesn't really care about Fire Emblem or Shin Megami Tensei, I think the game looks pretty great. I'm not into idols, but I'm not repulsed by them. I just like how the game looks and plays. I get why people may be put off with what they got versus what they expected, but I try to treat the game as if it's in a vacuum. I think the more attached you are to the two franchises, the more you would look at the game as a bastardized fusion of the two series.

I don't really see either of those in Fire Emblem.

It's weird because I'm super into SMT and Persona and find FE (from 12 on) to be pretty fun (I completely lack tolerance for harsh permadeath mechanics in games with unique characters (Tactics Ogre: LUCT or FFT or such are cool with me though)).

And I actually think this game looks pretty good. But my taste in JRPGs/SRPGs seems to be rather broad by GAF standards, I don't mind fairly dark stories (that aren't an endless and unending procession of "Look Ma! See how Grimdarkly GrimDark we can Grim Dark" cynicsm) and I quiet enjoy the silly/light stuff too.

Would I have liked an SMT x FE SRPG or a less "different" RPG too ? Hell yes and yes respectively.

Actually a pretty fair way of putting it.

It was always anime but it lept in the fanservice chasm the last two games.

Mind you there was always sketchy shit in there in the first place.

Est is a 14 year old pegasus knight running around in a mini skirt in the first fire emblem. They had to age up Lyn by 2 or 3 years in Blazing Sword's release in America.

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.

The villain's plot in the fourth game relied on incest.

There's always been "ANIMOO" aspects to Fire Emblem.

Sounds like how FFX-2 wasted possibly it's best combat system on the most cringeworthy game possible.

If the game is an embarrassment to play, the gameplay will go unappreciated.

This dudes artwork got a lot less interesting as time went on.

Honestly, I don't really see the problem but then again I'm not big on SMT or FE to begin with but you could tell from the first true reveal this game was gonna do something like this.

I could not stand Awakening, I've posted about this before, but they went from a girl that was the daughter of a killed barbarian king, and was kind of a bad ass, to pathetic shonen bullshit characters, I bought a 3DS for that game but promptly sold it, I was really fucking disappointed in the direction they took that series, it was pathetic and unplayable to me.

You are aware that fairly generic prince type Lords are by far the most common in the series right ? Lyn was the deviation, not the standard.

I don't remember this being a thing in the series outside a side character in Mystery of the Emblem?

Lyn was the daughter of a lord who ran away if that's what you're referring to.

Lyn was the exception, before, and after, her the main characters were lords. Aside from Ike.

Aaaand, Lyn was the daughter of a lady lord anyway, that's what her whole story is about, finding out what's going down in Caelin, the place she has inheritance to.

I honestly hate what they've done to Fire Emblem. The art for the series used to be beautiful but then from Awakening and onward it's been some generic ugly shit... and now... this. Even the cutscenes look fugly because of the style of the artwork, IMO.
