As far I understand the campaign, you have to purchase an amiibo (store or online) and then you get the DL codes. https://topics.nintendo.co.jp/c/article/bd36649c-b8c3-11e5-8b9c-0a6d14145cb1.html

The software will be published on the Nintendo eShop standalone at a later date, so it def. is a just limited time offer for now.

I wonder how much content is in it without you owning any Amiibo? I assume it's just the levels with that grey block guy.

Ugh. Why can't we get a good M&DK game like the Gameboy one.

Edit: I don't hate these types of games, but I would much rather have a good puzzle platformer again than this.

Welp, here's the game that the rumor mentioned.

NST was working on a game involving amiibo. Ta-da!

I wonder of the request for mobile development is true, too.

Either way, I was hoping NST grew out of this genre and tried something else for a change.

That rumored NST amiibo game is a M&DK game?

I don't understand why the Mario & Donkey Kong series turned into this weird touch screen controlled Lemmings sort of deal, where the goal is to guide the toys to the exit without having direct control over them. I wish they'd continued to build upon the original Mario vs. Donkey Kong, which was a great evolution of the original Donkey Kong and DK '94.

Seriously. It's ridiculous.

Yeah that's Mario & Donkey Kong alright

Cool to see amiibo used in something else though

I too am betting on a Direct sooner or later.

The direction this franchise took was so weird. The first one was a spiritual successor to Donkey Kong on GB but since then it's become all about the Mini Marios.....

Can anyone translate what was said in the video? I don't really understand what's different about this game. Did they say how amiibo are being used?

Oh, with the OP edit, it makes it sound like they're used to unlock the game. I imagine there must be other uses, though. I'd be down if I could use wind-up Kirbys instead of Marios.

Can't wait for Mario & Donkey Kong NX, Mario & Donkey Kong Mobile, and Mario & Donkey Kong QoL. Let NST do something else for god's sake Tanabe!

--- HOLY CRAP. Just realized, it's Mario & Friends. Toad, Luigi, others playable!

Keeping an eye out.
There's no information and the translated information is a mess (you buy amiibo, you get a code, but if you own the amiibo already? What will be the use of amiibo? Unlockables?).

But the last game was great. And this seems on that line.

Hopefully, a Tipping Stars sequel that looks like 3D World is in the works :p

I thought NST was more of a tool developer who occasionally puts out M&DK products to dog food said tools.

HAL and IS also develop tools. But yeah NST is kind of a small subsidiary since the Wii debacle, so their game team is stuck making these yearly puzzle games.

So is this F2P so long as you have the amiibo? Seems like a pretty good idea for the amiibo game, though not quite what I was expecting.

I thought NST became a predominantly tool development group, not unlike NERD but with some game dev focus as well.

It's free to download but they're only distributing the game as a download code alongside new Amiibo, at least to begin with.

You'll need at least one Amiibo to play; generic figures (ie non-Mario characters) let you play standard stages with a generic Mini but Mario-character Amiibo let you play with Mario-character Minis, each with a unique ability, and there are stages that can only be unlocked/completed using those specific abilities--you might need Mario's wall-jump in order to reach a special exit, for example.

-Play- as those characters....So one directly controls the Minis in this game? It is -not- a Lemmings style game?

Because if so, I'm in day one.

"Play with those Minis" is more correct, yeah. It's still a Minis game and looks to be more-or-less identical to Tipping Stars in terms of mechanics; you're guiding them to the exit, same as always.

I don't understand what Rosalina's ability is. Or rather, how it differs from Luigi's. As of right now, I see both as being super jumps, but I doubt that's true.

Also, it looks like there are themed levels themed for each character. So does that mean this game actually costs 10 x amiibo? I have 8 of the 10, so I'm not complaining if that's the case. In my opinion, the more value that each amiibo has, the better.

Ooh, bummer. Thanks for the clarification!
