I don't think censorship is the right word for this.
I'm enjoying the performatory hyperbole in this thread a lot
I
But I guess a realistic battle sim that actually added extra depth by giving you options to inspire your troops in ways that match history is too much to ask.
Are marriages still in this game?
Ive been on media blackout.
My problem with the censorship debate and the reason I might use a word like "localization'"in its place is that I just feel like when people state that something is being censored, it's typically assumed that this is inherently a bad thing. "Censorship" is bad. And as I've argued numerous times this isn't something I agree with necessarily. It can be a bad thing. But before I deride something as unnecessary censorship, I feel like it's important to examine what's being edited and why.
Come on now, I was expecting some sort of Criminal Girls style petting and instead it's something like this? From the reaction of people here calling it creepy I was expecting much worse, this just looks silly.
I'm not sure what issue people have with reality.
I've always enjoyed how FE's been getting closer and closer to a realistic portrayal of medieval warfare in recent releases adding interpersonal connections and romance in the midst of battle to humanize the soldiers, whilst keeping well documented historical events such as generals petting all their soldiers before battle to inspire them.

Just cancelled my pre order, you all should too
They definitely need new people handling the localization or the decisions behind them.Maybe Nintendo should stop trying to bring these games over? Clearly, we can't handle them. Would save everyone the headache at least.
That's kind of important too! What the hell!?
you're absolutely right
whoever was in charge at int sys should have cut this idea off at the knees when it was proposed
Once they added in the affinity and marriage they had to go down this road. What else could they do to out anime game trope themselves?

Hmmmm no. I'm not an overreacting crybaby.

Fates is going to sell way more than Awakening. Awakening bolstered the series' popularity in the West, and Smash probably amplified it even more.
Plus, there are two versions of the game, and many of us plan to get both. So, that alone will guarantee higher sales numbers.

Well, they're removing very tame optional content and not replacing it with anything, so...
People who cheer for a game's content getting cut are pretty weird.
From the article:
I wonder if we'll even get #FE at all now, since the whole game may be considered "inappropriate" for Americans.
And I don't like someone telling me that just because I'm American that I can't handle something so benign existing. It's really frustrating to be told that "we won't sell you something, because you're of X nationality and speak X language" and that is the entirety of their reasoning and nothing else.
Has there been any DLC for Fates other than the third story? Because I won't be surprised if that gets packaged in to make up for the stuff that's been taken out.
I doubt it. I'm guessing PG had special say in the localizations of both Bayo 2 and W101 because it seems like those games were barely touched. Is it the same team doing the localisation?
As somebody pointed out marriage was introduced in the series in 1996. The series didn't start with the seventh game.

Marriage had been in FE loooonngg before Awakening. There was an entire game where marriage played a part in the story, as it took place over several generations (rather than time travel)

That's my issue, they should give people a choice regarding this.Removing an entire feature in a game for a certain territory is never okay in my book, no matter how...controversial it is.
Make it optional. Make it so if people want to participate in it, they can. Removing it entirely is not okay and continues to set a really gross precedent that Nintendo of America is following a bit too much lately.
Hack the 3ds, import the japanese game , patch it , have the japanese game with english text and all content in place, be happy . Its what i'm gonna do.
Fire Emblem has always been about fantasy though.
Friendly face rubbing was a thing in the heat of battle? I may have missed that in history class.
