SuperData: The Top Earning Console/PC/Mobile Games of 2015 (Digital/Estimates)

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
If it's the same thing posted the other day, that was just comparing digital sales between PC, Mobile and Consoles. Consoles, of course, don't fare well there..

Every time they update this, there are always a couple games I've never heard of.

Like...the fuck is Maplestory?

Also, no Minecraft?

I've not heard of Maplestory either, also don't know what Crossfire or Dungeon Fighter Online are. This kind of market just goes over my head and doesn't really interest me but it's great that businesses are thriving because of it. Minecraft probably isn't on there because it's a one off purchase, I'm not educated enough on most of these games but I assume they have free to play elements or micro-transactions that keep revenue flowing in.

Also... World of Warcraft making nearly a billion dollars in a year where they lost half of their subscribers and haven't released any new content is just jaw dropping. The game turns fucking 12 years old this year!
This is still crazy to me, making nearly a billion in a year as "off" as 2015 was. 2016 likely back over a billion with Legion coming. Wonder what the game has made lifetime.

Try DFO! It's fun. It's like a beat'em'up from the arcades with RPG and MMO elements.

If anything, spending on average probably increased, considering the extra 5,000,000 subs that left only counted for a $200m drop

I'll be building mine when the next generation of consoles is close to come out (Nintendo excluded). So when ps5 is coming out or announced I'll put 2k aside to build myself a top of the line pc. Then I'll do pc, ps5 and Nintendo.

Lineage 1, yep. In fact, IIRC, Lineage II hit Steam as an attempt to grow the userbase but people just... Keep playing Lineage. And Lineage II is already 13 years old. Lineage is 18.

Wow. I played this way back, around 2000 I believe? Good on them though. Always loved the game. Introduced me to PVP.

Never heard of CrossFire or Dungeon Fighter. Surprised by Lineage 1 and Maplestory, I would have assumed those died out years ago.

I recently only found out about the new DFO servers. I didn't know it was going that strong though. Jeez. Loved that game. Been wanting to play it again...but the backlog!

Obviously the number of copies shipped remains the same but I wonder what the charts for console games would be like if we included used copies, I don't know about you guys but I tend to buy more games used than new.

Purchases of used copys make up an estimated revenue of 0.00$ i'd say.

What is the OP trying to say with "Don't look now"?

It's the title of the article he posted.

Half of those a chinese grandmothers having gold mining bots installed on their lenovo $150 centrino PCs, all mining f2p currency in facebook games.

This is where we are in video games. I try to keep my finger on the pulse and yet have never heard of 2/3 of the Top 3 Highest Grossing PC Games...

or 3/10 of the whole list but that doesn't sound as impressive.

Now that I'm back PC gaming, they can expect even more money being thrown around.

Many of those top 10 games are really old is it generally harder to win over gamers on PC from the games they are used to play? Or what's the reason some games always stay top 10?

This is one of those threads that remind I'm getting old without realizing it.

From those games, I've never heard about CrossFire, Maplestory or Dungeon Fighter Online. And from the other seven, I'd only play GTAV and CS.

I'm unable to check the links at the moment but is there a breakdown showing which geographic regions contribute the most for the top games?

This really just tells me that most "F2P" suckers are on PC.

Edit: post is being interpreted as inflammatory. I am referring to the games themselves as "suckers", not the people who play them.

I'm personally not a huge fan of the f2p model but each to their own.

Content Updates. Those games get more and more content, fueled by either subscriptions or microtransactions.

For the same reason that most console gamers keep buying the same franchises over and over again every year. The really old games are well updated, so they don't require sequels like COD does.

A lot of people on PC tend to stick with one multiplayer game and play it a TON. That's a big reason why communities on PC tend to last so long and stay strong in numbers.

lmao the fuck is this
get outta here with that shit

Okay, but it's still confusing. I have no idea what they are even trying to say with that title...
I might be wrong, but I think the title is trying to just say that it might take people by surprise that PC revenue surpasses mobile revenue

I cannot believe my eyes, CrossFire is still alive and it earns so much money? 0_o I figured the ghame was long dead, I played that as a child. Blatant CS clone.. lol

edit: not worth it.

It is sad that top money makers on PC aren't reinvesting most of that money back into the market.

Asian publishers are going to continue milking their market, Valve/Riot/Wargaming aren't interested in single player games, just free to play online. Riot might release another online game, they are working on one (or more). Activision/2k are probably the only publishers that are going to reinvest a portion of their revenue into new projects.

As much as gaming communities give flak to Ubi/EA/SE, those companies are actually making new IPs and AAA games, something that I enjoy the most.
I think the problem is simply that it is nearly impossible to replicate the same success with another game. Look at Wargaming and how their other games just have not really drawn audiences at all. I'm sure if there was a clear path forward they would all reinvest in new games, but it's just not that simple with how fickle the market is.
