Lineage 1? Am I reading that correctly?
Damn son.
Also GTAO (or at least Shark Cards) is doing amazing.
Never heard of CrossFire.
Every time they update this, there are always a couple games I've never heard of.
Like...the fuck is Maplestory?
Also, no Minecraft?
This is still crazy to me, making nearly a billion in a year as "off" as 2015 was. 2016 likely back over a billion with Legion coming. Wonder what the game has made lifetime.Also... World of Warcraft making nearly a billion dollars in a year where they lost half of their subscribers and haven't released any new content is just jaw dropping. The game turns fucking 12 years old this year!
I've not heard of Mapestory either, also don't know what Crossfire or Dungeon Fighter Online are. This kind of market just goes over my head and doesn't really interest me but it's great that businesses are thriving because of it. I assume Minecraft isn't on there because it's a one of purchase, I'm not educated enough on most of these games but I assume they have free to play elements or micro-transactions that keep revenue flowing in.

Lineage 1, yep. In fact, IIRC, Lineage II hit Steam as an attempt to grow the userbase but people just... Keep playing Lineage. And Lineage II is already 13 years old. Lineage is 18.
F2P Counter-Strike clone from 2007
Good for the manufacturer of PC and its parent company.
Is this some kind of weird passive aggressive post? What is this?
You see a lot of it in these kind of threads.
What is the OP trying to say with "Don't look now"?
"PC" isn't really a platform, tho.

Obviously the number of copies shipped remains the same but I wonder what the charts for console games would be like if we included used copies, I don't know about you guys but I tend to buy more games used than new.

It's the title of the article.
It's the title of the article he posted.
Many of those top 10 games are really old is it generally harder to win over gamers on PC from the games they are used to play? Or what's the reason some games always stay top 10?
This really just tells me that most "F2P" suckers are on PC.

A lot of people on PC tend to stick with one multiplayer game and play it a TON. That's a big reason why communities on PC tend to last so long and stay strong in numbers. Many of those top 10 games are really old is it generally harder to win over gamers on PC from the games they are used to play? I might be wrong, but I think the title is trying to just say that it might take people by surprise that PC revenue surpasses mobile revenueOkay, but it's still confusing. I have no idea what they are even trying to say with that title...

I think the problem is simply that it is nearly impossible to replicate the same success with another game. Look at Wargaming and how their other games just have not really drawn audiences at all. I'm sure if there was a clear path forward they would all reinvest in new games, but it's just not that simple with how fickle the market is.It is sad that top money makers on PC aren't reinvesting most of that money back into the market.
Asian publishers are going to continue milking their market, Valve/Riot/Wargaming aren't interested in single player games, just free to play online. Riot might release another online game, they are working on one (or more). Activision/2k are probably the only publishers that are going to reinvest a portion of their revenue into new projects.
As much as gaming communities give flak to Ubi/EA/SE, those companies are actually making new IPs and AAA games, something that I enjoy the most.
