Nah, it's absolutely nothing like that. I'm not saying that women will be physically directly in harm's way (though culture of rape and objectification of women is not a coincidence IMO), I'm saying that sexual objectification is societally problematic. Absolutely nothing like the Jack Thompson-style argument against violent video games training Johnny to be a killer.

I think it's wonderful that this game exists. As someone who has pre-ordered it, I'm glad to buy what they're offering and hope more companies offer more like this. I think it's silly that this game isn't officially leaving Japan, since the people who would be outraged by this form a small, but loud minority of the overall gaming populace, not the main audience of these types of games and easily ignorable.
I'm also getting Senran Kagura and Galgun on PS4 when they come out as well. Viva fanservice!

It's more that I don't really get the appeal but I don't care. It has no bearing on my life, I just won't play it.
I get more annoyed when there's fanservice in a game that's supposed to be otherwise taken seriously.

I personally refrain from posting in those threads (and frankly wish we were getting DoA6 instead of a crappy volleyball game) but I find them tremendously amusing.

I don't think you have to move much further up the chain to have people embarrassed about there being other people on their same internet who obsessively discuss video games on forums.
Being ashamed of it is a weird way to phrase it, but I get where you're coming from. I also don't get why people say it's an honest game, while there are actually people who argue the game is not about half-naked women, but rather a volleyball or holiday simulation... Sure. Of course there should be a market for mostly everything, also softcore. But it's even less than that, it's nothing but a lot of teasing, I don't see any situation in which I'd like that more than real softcore material or hardcore, be it game or movie, which seems A LOT more honest to me than wrapping some shallow modes around a game designed for arousal.
I'm all in for people who want to wank to or get aroused by whatever they want. But it's nevertheless hard to argue against the fact that the existence of a game which stars _popular_ female characters of a fighting game series with a (more or less) serious backstory, which are now portrayed as nothing but virtual dolls to look at, is kind of harmful to the progress we made in the portrayal of women in video games.
I have a lot more respect for a self-assured pornstar than I have for the producers of this game, honestly.

Most people are using proxy arguments to maybe suggest that "yeah it's sexist but it doesn't matter because ______", which is an alarming train of thought. Says a lot about our community that this is the most common reaction.

Anyway OP, 'social maturity' is the silliest thing I've heard someone come up with in order to legitemize to their puritanical ramblings. Holy shit, I don't know where to start. I fucking love books, I wasn't embarrassed by the success of 50 shades of grey, I just didn't care. I love movies, I'm not embarrassed that people pay Adam Sandler to make them. I love videogames, I'm not embarrassed by DoAX3. I don't see what makes DOAX3 more sexist than softcore porn. Is it because of the narrative? The control aspects?
I think more malicious are games that purport themselves to be serious or for general audiences and contain questionably sexist content.
