Now having watched it this film kinda sucks. I felt like it was going to suck ever since they announced Sam Smith was singing the song, but you know, thought I would wait and see the actual film, but yea, wasn't that good.
At this point the series has this every other one being good thing going on now, to the point where the song gives away how good the film will be. Casino Royale had "You Know My Name" which was a really strong song which accompanied an amazing title sequence, the film was amazing, refreshing, and one of the best bonds. Then Quantum of Solace arrived and we got "Another Way to Die" which was just an utter trash song, like seriously shit, and the title sequence was also just as bad, women flailing around in sand.
We then get Skyfall, another strong song, a good hearty ballad from one of the biggest singers currently around, title sequence was good, bit less flailing women. The film also looked amazing and really felt like the sequel Casino Royale should have had. Now back to Spectre and "Writing's on the Wall" which again next to Casino Royale and Skyfall felt like the wet blanket of Bond themes. Lots of women flailing in fire for the title sequence, just wasn't that good.
The film felt hastily put together, compared to the story of CR it wasn't very good, and next to the beauty of SF looked boring. Waltz was meh, for the author of all Bonds pain he didn't really seem to do anything, the title sequence even had the ladies of Bonds past but it didn't really go anywhere, I was just told he had done all this, I was expecting some montage of his evil doings across previous films or something. But no, we got a Blofeld introduced and then just as quickly taken care of.
It would be a damn shame if this does end up being Craigs last bond film, I would have far preferred him going out on another strong film than a shitty one, but there's always so much apparent gossip about him leaving every film I wont trust any news till he says it officially. If those supposed rumours are true and they want to film two films together as a two parter, that would be a good way to leave and really work out a great story to do it with.
