The X-Files S10 |OT| The Truth Is Still Out There - Mondays 8/7c

The more I think about it I really do wonder if Home Again was saddled with the death of Scully's mom due to the fact that the episode number was reduced by a couple of episodes. I think I would have liked that episode a lot more if there was no distraction from the monster of the week.

Genius or mad man?

What would you say to fans who feel cheated by the lack of resolution?

I’ll go back to what I just said: We’ve always ended with a cliffhanger. This isn’t a movie; it’s a TV series. Any resolution would have to lead to more stories to tell. If they feel cheated, they’re not familiar with how we’ve done the show. I think they’d feel more cheated if we resolved it and didn’t come back at all.

Anything you want to take a mulligan on?

No, but there are some critical responses I’d like some critics to take a mulligan on.

Such bullshit answers. Literally zero self awareness.

I have no faith that the cliffhanger will lead to anywhere interesting because, if Carter is writing it, it's gonna be just as jumbled, nonsensical, and maddening as the mythology episodes this season.

Is there any way we get season 11 without Chris Carter attached?

I doubt it.

Maybe he limits himself to one episode. That would be nice.

X-Files is a good opportunity to get some notable guest writers beyond the usual series regulars.

The original series was able to snag both Stephen King and William Gibson; though their episodes weren't the best. Imagine a Neil Gaimen, J. Michael Stracynski or George R.R. Martin penned story.

Fox is incredibly lucky with these ratings considering the quality. Rope at least one good name to guest write an episode and you can market the next season around that. A lot of people would want to write an X-Files story.

Hell, I believe Tarantino wanted to direct an episode once upon a time. In the right hands X-Files could be bigger than it was before.

Unfortunately not. I think DD and Gilly have said they wouldn't do the show/movie without him. He NEEDS to go though, he's completely lost everything that made the show enjoyable in first place. Vince Gilligan needs to save us. Or even let DD starting writing episodes again, his were always great.

Honestly, I think the purpose of this cliffhanger may be so there's an easy explanation if they can't get Anderson or Duchovany back for season 11.

Don't do a Season 11 if you can't get them back.

I think there are ways of doing the X-Files with new characters but I think they missed the boat on that when they decided to do a revival instead of a Next Gen of The X-Files type series. It just doesn't make any sense at this point not to have them if they want to continue what they started with this.

If Mulder and Scully were unable to return, they should probably put it to bed.

Were the ratings of this season so good that they could even risk another season of this quality anchored by Miller and Einstein? Come on. I can't watch that. I'm not sure many can. A great part of the appeal of these six episodes was having Mulder and Scully back on screen.

I loved the season finale. It was all kinds crazy but that was what made it so much fun. It was finally good to see them touching on the mythology in a big way. It was completely wonky, sure but so much fun! X-Files has always been over the top with it's alien arc but again it's just a really fun time.

Anyways I hope we get more because it would be pretty crappy to leave it where they left it. Obviously it was intentional to push for more episodes but yeah. I wish the actors would comment on whether or not they have any interest in returning. I know that it's really coming down to money for them or otherwise they would have already flat out said the six episodes were, "it".

The revival series is a bit sloppy but it's also hard to bring back a huge show with just six episodes. I know the actors don't want to do huge seasons anymore but if they could do 10-13 episode seasons and bring the show back in a bigger capacity, that would be pretty damn awesome.

Miller and Einstein are nothing. I like them fine as guest characters but without Mulder and Scully I doubt the audience comes back. If they want to restart or next gen The X-Files with a new cast, they are going to need to sit on the property for a few years and then re-market it as such. Otherwise, it's obvious what people expect.

At this point I am more inclined to pick up the IDW comic continuation after this butchering of the show. This tone is a mess and just...blah. What a letdown.

Carter tries a little too hard and aims too high. But you know what? He got the series back on TV, so if he wants to indulge himself, then so be it. That being said, I do hope that the other writers get more episodes next season. And there will be another season. I'd be shocked if there weren't.

Chemtrails. You never go full retard. I can only imagine how annoying it must have been for Einstein to stand next to someone who constantly breaths out cryptic melodramatic phrases like "this is just the beginning".

I didn't watch the last few seasons but as I recall there were some theories that Fox was CSM's son by way of an affair between his mom and CSM, did anything ever happen with that?

Not a theory. That other FBI agent they introduced when they burned the x-files down turned out to be CSM's son and Mulder's half-brother.

Only half as annoying as someone saying 'Agent Einstein' over and over with a straight face.

Not a huge fan of the last episode but I'm more amused than annoyed by Carter's writing at this point. Roll on season eleven!

What a mess. The story would have been okay but the execution was terrible.

I can see them doing a longer season but with less Mulder and Scully but more Einstein and Miller padding. I would be fine with them as additional characters. This would make for a much more doable shooting schedule to get GA & DD on board again.

Morgan and Wong as showrunners

Rob Bowman

some fresh writers

They say they have always ended on a cliffhanger, but this was a six episode limited event series.....not a season. However it was written more like the first six episodes of a 12 episode season.

Even worse than the cliffhanger is the constant references to William somehow being important to all of this and they didn't even get close to closure there.

I'm in it for the ride because they did some great things this season but damn.....six episodes was a mistake, especially with only 2 mythology episodes.

Anyone think William may be in that UFO? Could explain why they don't know where he is. The Aliens came back for him at some point and he's been with them ever since.

I had to check to make sure the ending wasn't cut off. I mean, what the fuck. That's how they end it?

Gah. I hope the Twin Peaks revival is a damn sight better than this.

It will be. Lynch and Frost wrote the best episodes, not the worst episodes. Carter... well... you can't say the same for him even if this felt like hitting new lows going 0 for 3.

And Darin Morgan. Don't forget Darin.

My feelings about this season can be summed up with this: I want to believe that I believe it was good.

It wasn't bad. Gillian was flawless and her pant suit game was on point. Mulder was Mulder. Einstein and forget Robbie Amell's character name, but they were ok but couldn't watch a whole season of them, though who knows maybe if given time to breath they can carry the show.

Hoping all of this last episode was just some kind of fever dream out of mulder's or scully's mind. Or are the aliens going to be able to turn back time to prevent the contagion? I just don't know where they'd be able to go with more episodes otherwise. You can't really care about trying to find a vampire in the woods of Maine when a shadow organization has revealed itself globally and is trying to kill off most of the human population.

I can get past that. I mean, that's basically the X-Files shtick.

I'm more upset they turned Reyes into a simp.

Well, that was a terrible episode. Way too all over the place. And why the hell would you cheapen Reyes' character like that?

At least we got the Were Monster episode. The true XFiles ending to me.

I'm a huge X-Files fan but I think the nostalgia is getting to most of you guys. The past 6 episodes have been average at best. The acting of Mulder and Scully just seems weird, like they just seem so old. I understand they age but it just feels off, their movements and even how they talk is just so different. Gillian Anderson has that worried look on her face all the time.

It's fucking excellent, and takes a shitload of risks.

Do it.

Get the collected S10 trade, then S11 trade later this year.

The Most Dangerous Yes Man
She can't tho

That shit would fall out according to her hair stylist.
I'm sure it will be fine if she times it correctly.

She no longer has Hannibal to do, and she could instead wear a wig for The Fall, since that show doesn't require her to have an extremely iconic look.

Holy shit, that finale was like some generic 90s outbreak TV movie. Terrible.

I was a big mytharc fanboy back in the day, but I'm more grateful than ever it's just one aspect of the show. If they do another season I hope it's all MOTW.

Most of the episodes were pretty uneven, but I'm glad the show came back and it was worth it to just see Mulder and Scully again. The Darin Morgan episode is already one of the greats, and there were some great character moments in the other ones.

I'm down for more seasons, but they need some fresh blood and better directors. Holy shit was the finale's direction cheesy.

Just saw episode 6, and man what a disappointment. This was supposed to be a big moment with a public epidemic caused by the Conspiracy and an actual public UFO sighting and all I can think about is how stupid it is that Scully and Agent Weasley apparently whip up a plague cure in a few hours.

I feel like Chris Carter really likes Alex Jones, this was basically a love letter to him

I was hoping Tad O'Malley was a stooge and that heavy-handed infodump in the premeire was a corny red herring, but instead this shit is X-Files gospel.

It really seems like Chris Carter spent the last decade and a half listening to Alex Jones and subscribing to every batshit internet conspiracy theory known to man, and decided to use his show as a sounding board.

Back in the day it felt like the show was exploiting wacky fringe conspiracy shit to weave its own mystery, but this basically regurgitated all of it verbatim.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the entire season was total garbage. Didn't enjoy one episode. Heartbreaking.

I can't be alone on this.

Just watched the finale. I got worried when I saw that only five minutes were left, because I wondered if it had run late. But then it ended quickly.

I hope there will be more, because if not that was not a good way to end things. Too many questions still exist about the characters.

I liked the finale. I'm just not sure of how much.

The line from Einstein about Mulder leaving a "voice message" was really awkward, though.

What did Cancer Man say to Mulder after he told him that he wished Scully was there to see him?

....I don't even understand how there would be another season. Humanity is pretty much dead at this point, right? Unless Scully can run all across America with her little IV bags of alien DNA curing everyone in 5 minutes.
And Mulders alien baby son, abducting + healing him is not something I think I want to see...

Haven't seen episode six yet but so far, let me get this straight... did they retcon the conspiracy?

Previously, it was very much a case of the syndicate serving the colonists to save themselves. The date for colonization was set. Now apparently the whole conspiracy is just people using alien technology to control others, no mention or reference to the very very real colonization plot?

Yes. Now the alien plot is "alien DNA" to protect certain sects of the world/population from certain death/illness. Scully being abducted in earlier seasons means she was given a "cure"/safety from the mysterious bioterror plot of the Cig Smoking Man and Syndicate.

2012 was apparently a ruse.

I'm thinking it leads to the aliens finally coming and stopping the CSM once and for-all. But that would mean the rest of the episodes wouldn't ride that high.
