A: Yes, here is a summary (which the first episode begins with)
  • Q: Is there a summary of the series?
A: Yes, but don't bother. You can check out this timeline but you'll only get more confused. Just jump in now :)
  • Q: If I want to see some episodes of old, which ones are the best?
A: Home, Clyde Bruckmans Final Repose, and X-Cops. And "Mulder and Scully Meet The Were-Monster"
  • Q: Where are the reviews?
A: On Rotten Tomatoes. Currently: 51% with a 6.4/10 Average Rating.
  • Q: Why only six episodes.
A: David and Gillian had other stuff to do as well.
  • Q: What else should I check out?
A: Kumail Nanjianis podcast The X-Files Files. He together with guests (writer director Darin Morgan frequents it regularly) goes through the entire series, one episode at a time and it is great.

Going in with moderate expectations. Never been a fan of Chris Carter as a writer, so I'm glad we at least have 3 episodes NOT by him.

I also hope an 11th season will be picked up, so Vince Gilligan can get a shot at a future episode :)

Even the former leader of your United States of America, James Earl Carter Jr., thought he saw a UFO once. But it's been proven, he only saw the planet Venus.

Venus was at its peak brilliance last night. You probably thought you saw something up in the sky other than Venus, but I assure you, it was Venus.

Watched the pilot and the series finale last night, I have never been more confused in my life.
You can watch the entire mythology and feel the same way.

The heart of the show lies in the MOTW episodes. Some of the best TV you can watch.

Am in for all six episodes even though the Season Nine Finale was absolute up its own arse bollocks and the second movie was flat if only to see
how they wangle Cigarette Smoking Man in after having fallen down the stairs, been dying of Cancer and getting multiple rockets to the face at near point blank range from an armed to the teeth helicopter
.

I'm part of the problem.

Really looking forward to watch this, the first episode is not getting that much praise so I'm happy the second episode is aired the next day. Please don't suck.

You watched the first and last episodes of a show, missed nine years worth of 200 episodes and state you are confused?

You're my new favourite poster TVexperto!

Can't wait!

But gotta bleedin' wait..'til Feb (UK)

Gotta respect the way Fox and Channel 5 have conspired to give us a truly authentic X-Files reboot experience this week...

In other words, it airs in the UK on a delay and information will best come by getting up early morning after US airing to read the internet.

Thankfully, same internet will offer ways to watch it and I don't have to wait for a friend in the US to send me tapes (like I did in the '90s).

Also, yes, I too was trying to watch it all before the return but have got stuck on Season 9. So utterly horrendous, you're either forced to watch a show torment a women over her baby or are asked to believe that the characters constantly have paranormal things happen to them - not, you know, seek out paranormal things happening to others. I've given up, and am just watching the finale for some sense of closure on rewatching.

Have been concerned by the reviews too, but if you've followed the show in any way you know that it's always 50/50 on the delivery front, so the suggestion that we're getting 5 good eps out of 6 isn't so bad!

was desperately trying to finish my re-watch before today, but S9 is sooo, so, bad.

Gish and Patrick were actually the strongest part of the show at that point

Gillian tried but her story was half done / half who gives a shit about her playing single mum. I would have had more respect for them at that point to have Gillian be a transition point for Season 8 and then soft rebooted wth Gish / Patrick only in Season 9

Mulder's reintroduction for the Finale was TERRIBLE. Everyone should watch the finale just to hear how absolutely bored as fuck Duchonvy sounds when he launches into his big monologue during the trial. Its amazing.

Man, I've been meaning to rewatch the whole series over the summer; because growing up I was in arcades on fridays instead of catching it on tv lol.

I've watched the first 3.5 seasons, but since there is no way for me to catch up, any recommendations on which eps or seasons I can't miss? And don't say avoid the T1000 episodes, I'm sure there is some redeeming ones there!

Channel 5 have said early Feb, so i'll give 'em 2 weeks before raising the 'black flag'

Hate going dark though when I wanna join in the fun with the rest of ye..

The finale is pretty meh, but I actually really liked the second to last episode. It's a goofy ass MOTW involving the Brady Bunch home, courtesy of Vince Gilligan. If that were the episode they ended on, I would have been happy. It's definitely a high point of season 9.

My hype is through the roof. Grew up on this show. As long as it's not a complete train wreck I'll probably love it.

My TV Guide listing has Fox going from the NFC championship game to the local news. They better be showing X-Files after the game..

I'm trying to rewatch the older seasons and it feels so incredibly outdated, "oh noes the government is spying on everyone!" Well no shit. Hopefully they'll have tied in recent developments with the story.

It IS nonsense, though. It just seems like a cock-up when there's a huge amount of social media and online marketing about the return of the show, and even lots of UK-based press have covered the return... and cited the Jan 24th date. By contrast, Sky manages to either simulcast shows like this or air them the very next day. Whereas Channel 5 hasn't even confirmed the actual airdate yet.

(And I meant I'll happily buy it 'legit' from a NA digital store or streaming site, btw)

Reviews are not very favorable to this, but I'm still going to tune in.

By the sound of it, the overarching stuff is a little weak while the MOTW stuff is good. I feel like reviews (and a lot of people) have always felt that way, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a standard X-Files fare. Personally I'm not gonna get ultra hyped, I'm just treating it as another season of X-Files.

Kind of fucked up that the old conspiracy nutjob fears are just modern reality.

What do you guys think. Will I be okay watching this even though I haven't seen all the old episodes? I've seen most of the episodes till season 5 or 6 I think. And my memory of those is a bit hazy.

Gillian was one of my first crushes in 1993 when I was 15. She's only gotten better.

That said, I gave up on the series around season 5 or 6, but, saw both movies in theaters. The runup to this premiere is a little shakier than I would have hoped, but, I'll still watch tonight and the miniseries.

Just sat down to watch The Truth in what was the first time in a very long time.

It wasn't as bad as I remembered. I still think the weird Mulder visions of the dead felt awkward and out of place but I get that Chris Carter wanted to shoe-horn them in somehow, but it was clumsy.

They do a decent job of summarizing the alien conspiracy but most people I know who were watching the show at the time still didn't understand what was going on. It's fairly straightforward but over the course of nine years the show throws so many curve balls at the audience I can understand why people would still be confused.

There are characters who I had completely forgotten had shown up in the finale. Marita Covarrubias showing up - lol, I love that name.

I was never a big fan of the super soldier story in the past couple of seasons and I found their contribution to the overall conspiracy to be kind of redundant as the aliens already had the shape-shifters as enforces on Earth. The super soldiers would have made more sense if they were part of a program to actually prepare to fight the aliens in 2012. Some of that really got muddled and I'm not sure what happened to the shape-shifters at a certain point. I guess I need to go back and watch the mythology episodes over again.

Also, Doggett rolls up the "I Want to Believe" poster after the office is cleaned out and takes it with him. In the previews the poster almost appears to be in the same place before it's rolled up.

I also watched the series finale today and enjoyed it a lot more than I expected.

The trial scenes did a pretty decent job of turning what had become a convoluted mess into a relatively coherent narrative. I appreciated that.

I wasn't sure about
Mulder seeing dead people
throughout the episode but ultimately it worked for me.

At the end, Scully asks Mulder what more he "wants to believe" now that he knows the truth. His answer is "that the dead are not lost to us" before holding Scully's crucifix. This might be the first time the show fuses the alien mythology arc with ghostly and biblical phenomena, which has been present in many monster-of-the-week episodes. It wraps a bow in the series by acknowledging that that those two types of paranormal activity (alien and ghost) exist in the same world. And this time, one helped Mulder fight the other.

I've only see the odd cast photo so going in blind. Haven't watched X-Files since it finished years ago. So weird to be back but looking forward to it.

Very good read. Yeah, that cross was highly emphasized in that last scene. I probably should have taken the time to watch I Want to Believe again but it doesn't really seem important to anything.
