Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Yeah, I think the code name refers to the concept that allows cross play between console and handheld, but I really doubt it'll keep the name 'cross' in its final name. While the word 'cross' is seemingly super duper popular in japan (cool, the letter X!), it doesn't really work internationally, so I suspect an entirely different name for it. It could happen (that it keeps NX or the word cross), but I think they'll just call it something new.

Also, there would be tons of "Nintendo is cross (angry)" puns.

This is what I always assumed the code name basically meant, referring to cross play (between systems). In other words, most games can be played in HD on the console and taken with you on the handheld which doubles as the console controller.

However, this concept fell out of favor in the last year as the likely "gimmick" so I dunno.

I still think extensive cross play is going to be a big thing.

Most games in the Japanese charts are either a multi platform with handheld ver, an occasional Western game or a first party (usually Nintendo) exclusive. Full cross play sounds sensible from that perspective, I don't think losing double dippers will be that significant.

what tier of repercussion would one face upon breach of contract

yo Rösti

on a scale from "lose access to devkit" to "lowered into lava by chattering, barely humanoid beings" where is it at?
Something in between.

Maybe they just call it Nintendo NX or something like that to honor Satoru Iwata (wasn't the who came up with the codename?)

In the NX spec thread, I had thought most of us ended up on team #somecrossplay? In the sense, from a technical perspective, that many games would be cross-platform, but there would be several key exclusive flagship games for each, designed around each system--and that third parties wouldn't be required to be cross-play.

I dunno I feel like a lot of GAF has suggested there may be shared architecture and in-house development resources so it's easier to develop more games, but not necessarily that that or the internal restructuring from the last 5 years was any indication of cross play.

Maybe I'm wrong then? I dunno. Cross play seems quite logical. You're buying the game for one system or two systems... it makes little difference to their bottom line. The key is making the customer want to buy both the portable and the console. So there of course needs to be incentives (whether flagship exclusives or otherwise).

Doubt it. They had bad launch from GC onwards (probably before that, but I dont really know much about pre PS2 era), and even when they said they will fix it for next time, they didnt.

The Wii had a good launch, and post launch period.

I'm not most of us ;p I don't see the benefit for them to spend time on exclusives. Maybe some dancing game with a camera like Sony's remote play restrictions allow for. They recently updated one of their wii remote patent (extendable controller) to add a description of a controller with a touch pad too,
(not touch screen) tho it does briefly mention a touch screen only in addition to a second touch pad, ...which is odd.

I predict it's going to be called The Nintendo 7.

Nintendo 7... biblically the number 7 is perfect/denotes perfection...Nintendo = perfection/holiness...Nintendo means leave luck to heaven... so... yeah. (going nowhere here) Lol
I could deal with it. A numbered console in their series, Nintendo Seven doesn't sound bad. NESS?

Uhh what if the nx is a vr device and the screen is for other people to see what you're doing in the game
Nintendo already said that they don't plan on getting into VR anytime soon. Hell, if I recall, they just started looking into it.

This naming works for the console (NES, SNES, N64, GCN, Wii, Wii U), but not the handheld (GB, GBC, GBA, DS, 3DS). You could try & count Game & Watch as a handheld so that the Nintendo 7 name works for the handheld, but that may be stretching it.

The screen doesn't seem to go past the joysticks tho, so maybe this is a newer version than the one that was leaked first?
Edit: It does. Just the reflection in the glass that made it look like it didn't.

Sheeeeeiiiit.
Looks a bit better from this angle. But I don't know about the size of the controller. Looks too small. or... I don't know. the wii U gamepad, I guess gives me perspective.
