Do I believe a guy tweeting someone elses' words

Or literally multiple pictures from multiple sources

Occam's Razor, duders. This shit is real.

It's probably real, but it's likely another prototype, although this one has a sticker that says "UNIT 2" so it's probably the second...?

Who knows how many they'll try out before they settle.

Wait a moment, if there aren't triggers we will have to lock on the enemies's using a touch button in Zelda U?

As if Z lock wasn't already indicative of a lack in proper control.

I for the life of me don't get people trying to convince themselves that they like this.

Sure not every game needs a full controller of buttons, but you limit your console immensely otherwise.

I'll save final judgement till I see how the games run on it.

But I think I need handles, I'm sure of it, and let me map the buttons where I want.

You guys DO realize a NOA employee WOULD say it's fake, right? That doesn't mean it's actually fake; it could just be them trying to conceal the truth of the matter. Companies have had employees do this before, especially in gaming.
If it were real, I'd think they'd just ignore it.

Then again, I don't think Nintendo has enough confidence to do that.

Only thing left to do is double down and claim the Nintendo officials are trying to double bluff their way out of this as they scramble to stick some phone keys to these things.

It's been verified that no photoshopping occurred with either fake.

For the second scenario, you wouldn't be photoshopping the photo you took, you'd be using a photoshopped image to create a physical "screen". And we've actually seen that the image on the one "on" screen shown was from an unreal engine 4 demo, so we have an idea of how they could do it

Wait,I looked at one of the patient links that was posted here. This is actually pretty cool how it works. Tthe buttons are raised from within in a screen, so they still act like traditionally buttons, but just deformable inside the screen. That is awesome!

So how long do these screens last is the next question.

Good to know it's fake, let's move along then.

Nothing would be more insane than calling it "Wii Cross," literally learning nothing from Wii U's failures, lol

So a fake? If that's the case, sounds like good news for Nintendo. While it would have been a radical departure from the more traditional layout, I'm not sure touchpad tech is there yet to wipe out the need for physical buttons on a controller.

I eagerly await Big N revealing this exact same controller at E3 in a few months.

The guy leaking has released questionable stuff before.

It's like the worst of mobile gaming and the worst of handheld console gaming in one device. I love Nintendo, and a big part of that is how well their games control with actual buttons. If it's not going to have buttons, and the thumb sticks block part of the screen, just make phone games. I'll buy it day one because I always have with Nintendo consoles, but I'm not excited about this at all. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I think Nintendo wouldn't choose to use haptic feedback if they hadn't tested it extensively and concluded it was viable for gaming. And I think Nintendo, as the designers of a dedicated gaming device, are much more likely than apple to consider and take into account the effects a haptic feedback device they're working on would have on playing games.

Saying it's not viable as it exists on Apple devices right now is irrelevant, since it's possible Nintendo has created a better version. Hence my answer is wait and see what impressions are like and whether or not it is viable. And even if it isn't preferable on a personal level, if that's what we get and it works well enough to be viable, if inferior, it certainly won't stop me from purchasing the system.

Sorry to be so cynical, but you seem to have the belief that Nintendo "gets it." That they wouldn't create a device with major drawbacks and fundamental flaws. That Nintendo wouldn't replace something that has been viable for something risky.

I don't. I don't think Nintendo understands the home console market. I don't think Nintendo has a good grasp of hardware technology. I don't think Nintendo understands their target audience or how to grow their existing audience.

Now, I want to be clear that I think Nintendo is vital to the game industry and I used to love them. That's why, to be blunt, I'm fairly harsh when it comes to them. Because Nintendo has a very loyal fanbase that they seem to cater to and focus on despite the fact that their fanbase, as passionate as they are, aren't enough to sustain the company.

So I don't think having blind faith in Nintendo is smart. Instead of assuming Nintendo tested it and it's great, think for yourself about using digital buttons and physical buttons.

I'm sure it has been discussed, but once again this will be a console with one primary controller... I can't imagine connecting 2-4 of these to a single unit. And I have a hard time imagining NX supporting WiiMotes again.

Edit: bottom of page... :/

This reminds me, I want Wiimotes to die with the Wii U and only to play Wii U games for backwards compatibility.

This new controller is so much better than a wiimote turned to it's side, I know that much.

Why would he retweet a legitimate leak as an employee???

They don't do shit like that.

They're practically scared to pee the wrong way over at the big N.

Says who? The funny narrative we on neogaf place on the concept of "Nintendo Ninjas"? What evidence do we have of employees being afraid of Nintendo lol...

And why? Because they're human. They felt like retweeting it. They're a gamer and a gaffer too.

I get the impression Liam was right one or two times, then proceeded to turn speculation into fact. He's bandwagon-ing here.

Why would someone working at a game dev studio leak a controller under NDA and risk their job?

Stupid people exist. Sometimes they come in twos.

Of course it's fucking fake

No real leak would have a CONFIDENTIAL label on the device

I work in software development, not games but enterprise, and we have confidential stickers on a ton of shit. I'd imagine if we had some kind of dev kit like this it would have a sticker on it. The stickers remind the employees not to take the items home with them if they plan on working out of the office.

Iwata did before his death. Someone else can get the link cause I dont feel like it lol

The speculation is an Internet thing because it seems like the only thing people can understand based on what Iwata has said about shared libraries and whatnot.

Found a quote with some Google fu.
Shame though, would have really liked it to be a hybrid. I think it could've been a smart move.

I mean regardless, an NoA employee tweeting about this makes it pretty much dead anyways

Of course his source is gonna call it fake. What else is he supposed to say

The game is still afoot until an official statement is made

That NoA employee has a lot to lose if he is confirming a leak.

In fact, he's the only person who could possibly have any blowback at this point.
