NX Controller Rumor [Up5: Original was fake, and thus this is too]

It doesn't make sense at all for the game/application to show only the cropped top of an interactive 3D world, though. How would the game camera work? It's like displaying only the top half of a film. If this was indeed a real application running, the shot in the demo would be centred.

I don't know where the device come from, but the image on it makes no sense.

This is what I was thinking. The moment I saw that source image skewed and overlaid on this "leaked photo" and how well it matched up, it was pretty hard to believe it could be real. If someone did photoshop that on there, they did a really shitty job with what was otherwise a great fake. If it is real, then... the controller screen hasn't been set up to display anything in a logical way.
It will

emulate old ones.

Ouch.

...I'll take it.

I know someone linked this the last thread about NX, but it's still applicable.

That thing everyone scoffed at would end up selling 100 Million units. I feel like we don't have the full story on this controller- I'll be shocked if it's exactly what it looks like and we really just end up with regular touch screen buttons. I have faith that Nintendo is going to make this weird-ass controller work, because they've made weird-ass controllers work since the N64.

The Wii is a horrible example. Yeah, people laughed and then it ended up selling a lot but there's much more to it than that. It was Nintendo's only post-SNES console success and even then it was a fleeting one that never gravitated with traditional gamers. The people it did attract bailed out as soon as the novelty wore off. Also, despite the Wii's success, motion controls had no staying power and continue to take a back seat to traditional controllers, only recently getting another look thanks to VR.

Again, a horrible example.

A 3D printed device, maybe, or a rear-view mirror with finely cut acrylic and nipple nubs put in? Seems plausible.

I was teamreal, but after the tweets, I've turned coat.

TeamFake all the way, and thank god. Not a good idea for a new console from Nintendo.

Me too. Its kind of stupid in hindsight. Why nearly exactly copy the patent image? That ugly oval shape was just done like that cause its crude art. Its always like that with patent images and the final product generally doesn't ever resemble them this closely. If anything the oval shape is actually the main giveaway that this is fake, not only cause its stupid but also because its the exact oval shape as in the patent image.

So like, if this is fake, do we assume both sources are using the same 3D printed design? Did they share the CAD files? What are they both using for the nipples?

And if it's real?

I don't think that's really true.

I wish there was a more consistent way to inform everyone entering the thread of the possibility of it socketing into a shell that adds traditional buttons...or even slotting into a VR headset as the display.

Maybe those things won't happen, but maybe this isn't even real in the first place. The main thing is just being able to recognize that ounce of possibility, get the creative juices flowing on how this could really work.

More importantly, how did they fake the trees?

^There ya' go. Took me under an hour, and I could send it to a 3D printer with a few minutes of extra prep. Then it's just a matter of inserting a screen, or photoshopping reflections onto the 3D printed chassis.

But...like I said, that doesn't mean it isn't real. But it's simple enough that it's really, really easy to produce, if someone had enough motivation.

Will be interesting to see how this turns out.

Lol, maybe if you ignore mobile or the fact that the XBO controller is the only modern gaming input device (across both consoles and handhelds) that DOESN'T have motion sensing capabilities, and even then they still had the Kinect which sold a good amount. But sure, chalk it to VR

Wait, so you made this how exactly?

I'm with Vena on this. Between the reflection and other problems, I think it's likely that this controller is fake.

I just realized a screen this reflective would be made of glass. Nintendo doesn't use glass screens. They use plastic.

Wii U's screen isn't reflective, its almost matte.

I'd love for you to 3D print that thing if you can.

oh my god

that shit was real?

this makes no god damn sense.

when you put your hands on, half that shit is covered with your hands.

I still don't get people saying this. When I use a controller, the only thing covering the surface is part of my thumb. The rest of my fingers are on the sides or back. Do you wear Hulk Hands when you're using your PS4?

That looks super fake though

I was firmly in Team Real after the idriss2dev leak, but the more I look at these new photos, the more suspicions I get. I will remain in Team Real for the time being as this only reaffirms the first leak.

It seems like these shots were carefully shot at certain angles, with certain items deliberately placed in the frame to make it seem like a cluttered office space of a developer. But what are those items? A Macbook, an HDMI cable, a mid-range looking Samsung monitor, and a pair of earbuds. All consumer-grade household items, really. Does that give off the impression of a developer's desktop to you? To me, it feels like someone tried to make it seem like that by having various cables and stuff strewn about the shot.

Now, here's the grand conspiracy: what if the two leaks we've witnessed are not two separate incidents, but the doings of the same person. Think about it. Both originated on Reddit within one week of each other, by newly created accounts each with a distinctive alibi of internet 'presence', if you will. They could have easily spray painted the controller blank in that amount of time and reupload it as a separate 'leak'.

Major fucking props to whoever did this, if my theory is even remotely true. You have me fooled.

Guys if it's fake then why would the fakers go through the trouble of making both a white and black model? Doesn't make any sense. #teamreal

But if you notice, there are no handles. Which means, the palms of your hands go around the side, thus covering up part of the sides of the screen, along with your thumbs below the nubs, rendering the corners on each side useless screen space.

It's a dumb design.

N64 was a success dawg.

What if the consoles are on-par and the iterative PS4/xbone aren't much to upgrade to? Then the multiplat would be easy to do.
It doesn't matter how powerful the system is, it's not gonna have 3rd parties knocking on Nintendo's door asking for Dev kits. If anything having to program extra shit for a unique system just means more resources used up and they probably won't see the financial value in doing so.

Whether you like Wii or not, it was a commercial success. I don't see how you can claim motion controls have no staying power when all sorts of devices use some kind of motion control today. Trying to downplay its resurgence on the back of VR is like saying analog sticks are only being used because of 3D gaming. It's still a big deal. GAF was wrong then, and they can totally be wrong now. But who knows. I think no physical buttons is a stupid idea, but I won't pretend I can predict market failures to any degree of success.

I didn't put much thought into this, but I admit I have thought about those earbuds before. It's as if it were purposely placed there only to show it had a headphone jack at the bottom. I dunno.

wtf?

Now don't look at my exact marks, didn't have time to get the proper lines in. But you get the point.

When you put your thumb on those two sticks, the corners are practically hard to see.

This whole design makes no sense.
