Star Ocean 5 : Integrity and Faithlessness - Import Impressions

There are party skills also such as gathering is a starting one you get. Which allows you to gather vegetables and plants from collection points that appear once the skill is unlocked. What is nice too is you earn exp, money and SP (skill points) for collecting from said locations. Do appreciate that.[/QUOTE]

Yeah field skills which you earn crafting ingredients as well as a small amount of EXP and SP existed in Star Ocean 4 as well.

Indeed. Wonder if this game will have the "reverse-side" stuff. No idea what it was called in the localized ver. But was the skills allowing you to make counterfeit stuff. Was hilarious in SO2.

Oh god now i want to grind for skill points to up my party skills more.

Turning off ps4 now before my real status gets worse lol

These are good signs. Good signs indeed.

On a completely unrelated note:

After that abysmal ending to Utawarerumono: Itsuwari no Kamen , looking at your avi kinda pisses me off, lol.

Oh well, minor details. Hope you feel better after some rest.

Aruru did nothing wrong!

The urge to import game is rising.

I'm very excited about this. Almost imported the game but the wait until summer won't be that long thankfully

Same. And hey, the English dub actually sounds decent this time around, so it may be worth experiencing it in full, too.

Looking forward to this game keeping me busy over the summer.

That party skill menu is one of the best I've seen in a game like this. Very well done.

Edit: Made me think of the first episode of golden boy actually xD the program the main character makes

Save points are cool but please tell me they're more abundant than usual in tri-Ace games. (Radiata Stories *shudder*)

Am looking forward to seeing how deep the skill system goes along with crafting. Since will be impressive if they can out do Star Ocean 2. But wont have my hopes up. As that game was borderline excessive, but that is what made it awesome also. Esp with how you could break the game using it.

This is definitely the number one thing I'm hoping the game has - lots of systems that make utterly breaking the game possible. Loved that stuff in SO2.

Watching a stream.

Thiese are some Star Ocean-ass Star Ocean music and sound effects.

And I love it.

Nothing can be worse than the final dungeon in SO4 where the jokers are running around. I played for 4 hours without finding a save point. When I left my PS3 running all-night so I could continue the next day, my system YLOD'd and I lost the entire save file... 100+ hours down the crapper...

I read something about it in a interview (maybe the same one that initiated Miki's issue). They were saying that they knew that crafting was a way to break the game easily but it's also something people need to do on purpose and some players enjoy the game better this way. If they were saying that, I think it means they made it possible.

They removed many options in the international version of SO4 but it's not the same guys working on it, right?

Does it have the special dodge mechanic of SO4? The one where you get a red exclaimation point as a button prompt to dash away from the attack and retaliate, usually putting the boss in a stagger stat

I truly, truly hope not. Blindsides trivialized combat, especially as Meracle.

And the very last save point, which, beyond it, has you (possibly) fighting every boss in the game plus two with no saves in between. Wished they would just use destructible game states.

Copy I ordered from Amazon should be shipping in a few hours. Shame game imports from there appears to have been short-lived, $63 to import a game and get it by the weekend is an insane deal compared to the prices and shipping times I've had to bear with when importing games from other places. :/

In a way the game having save points annoys me because tri-Ace games can be really stingy with them at times. Hopefully they've gotten better at it here.

SO4's last dungeon laughs at you

mine should be arriving soon, but i probably won't have any time to play until the weekend. :(

it's kind of interesting that the game doesn't do the usual sort of song and dance for major character introductions. not something that would annoy me, might actually be somewhat refreshing, but i guess i'll have to wait and see how it plays out myself.

So is the game purchasable with wallet money or not? I just topped up my wallet with an Ichiman En!

Also, can't seem to be able to purchase it of the store yet (Didn't preorder), when will this be available?

Always feel like he puts more effort into his Star Ocean tracks than he does with Tales.

Don't know if it holds any truth, but some people have said that the Tales Studio tells him to "dial it back" with their games. Not sure why you would tell a composer that, so I don't think it's true.

This is definitely the case, or seems like it. Going all the way back into the 90s for sure. Even back then I got the impression that Sakuraba had a folder on his computer labeled "Tales fodder" and would just stockpile on D-tier songs leftover from his other soundtracks.

On a side note, I really can't handle the camera bobbing in these streams and videos. Are people actually adjusting to it...? o_O

its not like you have a choice with the camera. most def a bad idea with out they rigged it with the player model.

With Xillia, I was requested to not make the sound too thick, so I kept that in mind as I composed. There is a specific color to the Tales sound, and I am careful to not lose sight of it. Personally I would have preferred to do something that differs more from previous games, but it's quite difficult.

As the other Tales scores were collaborative, I would compose with balance in mind, but if I do any others by myself in the future, maybe I will be able to do something a bit different. As for whether I prefer working together or alone, I'm sorry, but no comment.

tri-Ace Sakuraba is definitely more quality on average than Tales Sakuraba and it shows. Still kinda weird that they let Go Shiina just go balls out though.

Considering grabbing this on the way home from work today - can you turn off the battle voices (as in the silly yelling of attack names)?

Oh man this looks and sounds so good! I skipped out on 4 so I've been missing some Star Ocean action.

Not really.

Star Ocean 4 was sort of the black sheep of the series.

For one thing it is the most criticized and it was also the one game that Star Ocean series creator, Yoshiharu Gotanda did not act as Director on, for some strange reason.

While there was some interesting aspects to SO4 notably improvements to the Bonus Gauge from SO3 and Synthesis working on Armor and Accessories unlike just Weapons only in SO3.

Star Ocean 4 was sort of a prequel in that time wise to the canon it's the very first, in that it takes place 36 years prior to Star Ocean 1 before the characters use the Time Gate in SO1.

The biggest issues with SO4 were some odd localization issues mainly poor VA direction.

To go from a game in which Alexander O. Smith was involved in SO3 to what happened in SO4 was an odd regression.

Basically all signs for SO5 seem to be that it's a proper follow up to the series along the lines of what the series would progress to under Gotanda's direction after SO3.

The game even takes place before SO3 but after SO2 in terms continuity, so divergences in canon to that addresses twist in SO3 or even the Time Gate in general is possible, or even possibly overriding them.
Possibly even heading into a different universe as a multiverse exists in the SO series lore
Alternate Earth Dimension in SO4 for example, as well as the 4D Dimension in SO3

So yeah it should be interesting to see how SO5 turns out now that Gotanda is back in the Director's chair again.

Is 'Full Manual' battle control an option?

Basically, tap O and your character simply swings their weapon on the spot, WITHOUT running up to the target first.

Please say that is an option...
