Well my old car not starts to run worse if new has been released. Think about it for a second. I mean, I'm ok to have better performance in a better hardware but I'd like to have the choice. If games will start to run like shit on my old ps4 model, what exactly it's my fucking choice? It's really really annoying if it's the new trend of the console.

Why is the PS4K a bad idea? As long as they keep implementing forward compatibility for vanilla PS4 just right (720p/30fps on vanilla PS4, 1080p/60fps on PS4K maybe?), I don't see any problem.

This wouldn´t be the internet is there wasn´t permanent outrage for no good reason.

The power gap will actually be even smaller than what you described.

It´s all good.

I got a bit more information today but I am trying to find out who all knows about it before posting.

Also the word "Sacrifices" is being blown out of proportion. There are sacrifices made when making a console version of a game as compared to a PC game or when making an XB1 game as compared to a PS4 game. Don't expect PS4 games to all of a sudden become shit just expect them to run better on PS4K. I would expect a game that is really pushing the graphics envelope to run at 1080p 60fps on PS4K while the same game might run at 900p 60/30fps on PS4. Just the way I took it.

How can this happen? (Okay, maybe with CDPR's Cyberpunk 20XX something ) Most PS4 ran at 900p (the minimum seen) if not 1080p.

You're not gonna get anywhere near that performance increase. 1080p -> 720p AND 30fps -> 60fps would require A LOT more than just 2x the GPU performance. I also don't really expect the PS4 to get many, if any, 720p games. It's not that weak GPU-wise. It's gonna be more like 900p30 -> 1080p30, with more bells and whistles on the PS4K. If the CPU also gets a solid upgrade you might get to see 30fps -> 60fps here and there, but at the same resolution.

It has been suggested that it will be a duel GPU and was wondering if you have heard the same? (If you can say, that is!)

Seriously, I bought a PlayStation 4 just because I didn't want to deal with stuff like this anymore. I passed on a GPU for the PlayStation 4 and now I'm paying to play online, don't have the "plug & play"-benefit I had with PlayStation 3 since I have to download GBs of Day 1 patches, the UI is choppy. I don't like a single bit of the idea. I'm going to sell my PlayStation 4 after playing Uncharted 4 and get a GPU instead.

On one hand OsirisBlack is verified by Bish so he's a legitimate insider.

On the second hand tomorrow is in fact April Fool's day.

Having been on the web for extensive period of time, this would not be the first time the website staff decided to work together and do a very elaborate April Fools prank. Of course I have no idea if GAF partakes in this sort of thing that some other Gaming websites do, so it's debatable if this is indeed some carefully constructed prank.

With that said, I am carefully neutral about this whole situation. So I will bide my time, be patient, and wait for the official details and announcement to come directly from Sony for an actual confirmation.

Now...if this rumor turns out to be indeed solid confirmation and backed up by Sony themselves, I guess that means I have some money that needs to be saved up on, or if tomorrow rolls around and the punchline for some careful joke reveals itself, I'll just simply shrug, and say, another day at GAF I suppose and move on to another thread of interest.

So let's see what Sony has to say about all of this, or the reaction from GAF on the coming days, which ever comes first.

More likely than 1080p60 (which would typically require a lot more than just double the GPU performance) you'd still get 1080p30 but with higher "settings".
An optimized first party like Second son when unlocked ran anywhere between 1080p30 and 1080p45 no? And that was within 6 months of launch.

I can totally see a 2xGPU PS4k able to do GoW4 in 1080p60 locked easy with 1 caveat: The CPU has got to be able to keep up in providing the amount of data (but then again if we're talking purely fps and not more data streamed from the cpu, it's mostly a GPU thing, and a 2xPS4 GPU puts us in the GTX 970 area, perhaps even better).

Now this being said, I have no problems in playing GoW4 in 1080p30 locked.

So, I upgraded my HD Ready TV to a Full HD when I bought the PS4 to get the most... and after 2-3 years they expect me to throw it away and get a 4K screen + another PS4?

LOL. Nope.

Deep Down not being dead is the real surprise.

Given from what has been revealed about the game for so long, it seems like the power of the PS4 was the thing really keeping the game engine down for so long (they were releasing native 1280X720 screenshots!).

So... it kinda makes sense that a PS4K would be its target?

Sounds to me like you're not much of a console gamer to begin with. Nothing wrong with that, mind you.

I have always purchased the consoles each generation, for the exclusives, for multiplayer with friends, and for games I'd rather play in the living room, but I've always kept my PC up on the very high end so that's where most of my dollars go.

Dropping $1200-$1500 dollars on the consoles is no big deal to me when you average it out for a 5-7 year lifespan, especially when I was also using the bluray, streaming, and other features of the consoles. Now we're talking about halving the low end of that lifespan, so we're doubling the cost outlay, and most all the side benefits are leaving because they are already baked into the TVs.

Consoles were a relatively cheap habit compared to what I spend on my PC, but if we're adding in iterative $500 consoles every 2.5 years, at that point it is almost comparable to when and what I'm spending on GPU upgrades.

If a PS4K patch makes it look nicer and run locked at 30, a lot of folks will have to balance whether that is worth waiting 6 months.

I think some titles will probably automatically have a performance boost. Games that are already 900/1080p but dip below the 30fps mark will probably be stable as well but I don't see the majority of developers patching unless they have some incentive to do so.

Hopefully Sony will patch all 1st Party titles but most oft them already run pretty well.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I wouldn't dismiss this so easily. If it's 100+ more expensive than the PS4, it's kind of a hard sell w/o being the actual new PS5. Unless they stop selling old PS4s altogether.
PS4K might lead to a similar customer confusion like with the WiiU. With the added bonus that you can actually still play all the games on the PS4.

Well if 900p 30 fps starts to become the normal even on ps4 how exactly is it a good news?
He probably meant 900p60/ 1080p30, which is the norm as established by titles like Battlefront or UC4 already, nothing to do with PS4K "ruining it" for PS4 users.

My god the game does not get worse because of the ps4k it will run the same as it would regardless. The PS4 is not loosing power from this! When a new model of your car came out did the manufacturer come to you and rip out some parts on yours to make it less powerful?

With a proper announcement coming this E3 I wonder how low is Sony prepared to go with OG PS4 price and when? I would guess immediately post E3 and 250$.

If they can maintain the current PS4 of 1080p/30 fps with less bells and whistles than on the PS4K, all will be good and forgiven (at least for me). 900p was still nice looking on Battlefront (especially at 60fps). If those future 900p games can look as good as Battlefront then...

im-okay-with-this.png

EDIT:

Also, I hope that SCE WWS will still maintain the resolution to 1080p and the fps at least to 30fps. I don't really care about the bells and whistles. :p

Your response has nothing to do with the poster I was responding to was saying.

But in your case, you've presented me with "the sky is falling" speculation. Take note of games like Just Cause 3 and Fire Watch, and Broforce with awful performance right now. Because you won't be able to place all of the blame on PS4K for poor performing PS4 games in the future.

You're smoking dope if you think the majority of customers in the market for a PlayStation are going to pick the $400-$500 model over the $250 one.

When I switched from PC gaming to consoles when the first PlayStation was released, my reasons were:

1. So I don't have to install stuff
2. So I don't have to bother with game patches, updates
3. So I don't have to keep upgrading my hardware, only when a new iteration comes out.

Well done Sony for taking me back to 1994.

It's funny you think those are even remotely comparable. My old car or TV doesn't suddenly run worse than it did because of a new upgrade coming out. That's the issue many of us are having with this, is that the potential for the regular Ps4 for getting gimped, horrible running games is there. It's a very real possibility that we won't know for sure until the time comes.

I don't understand your example at all. Bad performing games are always existed.

If this is true, we will never know the fully potential of current PS4 since games wont be optimized for it. Develeopers trend to work on the better hardware so we can expect weak ports on PS4 while they focus on PS4K

I think Sony would be cool with that. The 250$ SKU is the mass market entry point device, the 400$-500$ is the premium higher profit margin enthusiast SKU.

I'd this is real, saw no citations, I'm going back to only getting Nintendo hardware and upgrading a PC every 5 years and using the older one for a gaming rig (I have a massive back log and some games don't fit me). I'll still be pissed at e3 if this is true... And I'll say this, I have a 3ds a 3ds XL and a new 3ds XL ... Each one cost last than 160$ and I'm okay with iterations to consoles that are in that price point but when you spend 400$+ on a console, you don't upgrade it every few years.... Cheers to those who waited this type of release would just [exploitive] over the early adopters who don't have the 500$ sitting around to adopt iterations .

At twice the power and optimized correctly would this be enough to push current PS4 quality graphics in VR? 960 x 1080 for each eye and 90fps doable?

I am guessing (if this rumor is true of course) that Sony would probably issue a price drop on vanilla PS4 soon (this E3, maybe), taking the price tag to something around $299. They could still have a great holiday season with this price cut and in next January PS4K would launch and start printing money.

We've barely had any good exclusives yet and PS4 is already about to become the shit box. Damn son.
You might be joking, but the degree to which 1st party output seems to have slowed down might very well be one of the reasons that Sony is looking to accelerate the hardware cycle a bit. It might seem counterintuitive but if you've got teams who still haven't put anything meaningful on the platform almost 3 yrs into the cycle, you're probably better off synching to the pace of 3rd party devs instead.
