The difficulty things doesn't bother me. I've died to bosses and plenty of reg enemies

Then again I'm not using a shield.

Way harder than the cakewalk ds2 shieldless.

I can't fucking take the hype, I think I'll just double dip

Where's that picture guide on how to play the game in English on Xbone?

So why is the press version easier/more forgiving?

I know it's because the patch but why does it even need a day one patch?

Does this mean reviews will be skewed a bit?

Press are playing the patched version. The nerf in 1.00 was apparently done for a press event.

The icon what I assume is for Dark Souls 3 in my Xbone library is just a green box with "installing xx%" underneath it.

Now I'm nervous. Hope it works lol

e: nevermind, now it's the Dark Souls 3 thumbs up guy

Did another comparison between an 81 ps4 and 37 x1, showing the ridiculous difference in difficulty.
Grew tired of people saying its a slight difference

The video or videos I've seen showed unpatched regular enemies dealing only a bit less damage than the patched ones did, so eh, I'm just saying it as I see it

A bunch of people have said that the Xbone version is still challenging, so I wonder how it really is

It was for press events apparently. Are people reviewing the english version already? The servers aren't up so it seems like they will publish the update before review copies get sent out.

DSP has a conspiracy theory that the version on Xbox One is dumbed down vs PC for preview players to give "unfair" positive reviews. Apparently damage is like 2% less on Xbox vs PC.

His conspiracy theory is the day one patch is to make the game harder and fuck over players.

Is this a common belief in the community right now?

Sorry for being a dumbass since I don't play the game but isn't comparing between similar level characters more accurate?

Well, people have compared it at similar levels, so others claim that it's "not that big." So now we have definitive better statted character still taking much more damage, from what it looks like. It's clear then, that either the XB1 version is easier, or the 1.01 patch the PS4 version has rebalances the game, changing damage values. Honestly, I'd lead toward the latter. I don't think this is a Demon's Souls/Ninja Blade level controversy.

Scummy if true, if they want to pull that, why don't they just add a damage slider in the menu for people people who want a more soft experience and call it a day.

Yeah, no. Reviewers have the patched retail version 1.01 like most people.

This unpatched version was just used for the preview event a while ago, it was dumbed down to give the players a chance to progress a reasonable amount in 3 hours.

There's no conspiracy or anything going on, really.

They really need to patch this Xbox version, makes me upset thinking people are running through the entire game on this difficulty and posting shorter finish times. The example posted above demonstrates there is a stark difference between the two versions.

Anyone having luck playing online with the Japanese Xbox version? I can lay down my sign, and my covenant icon is glowing, and I see bloodstains and stuff but can't connect to a match.

Apparently Oroboro beat DS3 in 24 hours doing all optional content (at least to his knowledge so he claims). Either DS3 is significantly easier than previous installments or there just isn't a ton of content. 24 hours is shorter than Bloodborne, which people considered too short.

quickly eyeballing it, Oroboro's first run through of Bloodborne was under 16 hours.

So, Dark Souls 3 is 1/3rd longer?

Keep in mind, Oroboro is an absurdly good Souls player.

So, has anybody done this recently and can confirm it still works?

Looking to get the game today. :).

Bought the game yesterday, worked perfectly

e: followed this

Ok, there seems to be a lot of confusion on how to actually buy codes and redeem it, so I thought I should do a handy guide for those so eager to play Dark Souls III (ie: everyone here).

You can buy codes from amazon.jp, Microsoft Store or Play Asia. The guide will be focused on Microsoft Store, which is the way I used and it worked flawlessly.

Since the game costs a bit more than 7000 yen, so I'll be using as an example the 5000 yen code and the 3000 yen code.

First of all, sign in with your microsoft account. You can use your own or create a dummy account.

Here's the link to the 5000 yen code. Press the green button to add it to your cart

Do the same thing when adding the 3000 yen code

Cool, both codes were added to your cart, now click on it

Press the green button again to start the purchase process

Select the second option to purchase with your Microsoft Account

Choose Paypal and add the required info. I don't have a proper japan address right now so if anyone would be so kind providing me one, it would be really helpful.

Warning: Paypal might take a few minutes or hours to clear the transaction. It will show pending for a while if you check your paypal account. As soon as its approved, you'll get an e-mail with the codes

Congrats! You just bought the codes! Now to redeem it. Here's the link for the code redemption page (already set to japan)

Both redeemed? Awesome, now head to Dark Souls III on the japanese store and buy the damn thing

I'm sure you'll see your xbox balance, select it and press the green button.

Warning number 2: Some people had issues doing it on Chrome or other browsers, I had to use Microsoft Edge for it to work. Now all you need is to boot up your Xbox One, make sure is in english and download it.

Enjoy Dark Souls III

PS: English isn't my first language, sorry for any weird sentences, I hope this helps!

This is the address I, and a few others here, used. Each new line is a new entry box, just follow it down:

Anyone will non-Japan version update to 1.01 before April 12?

Surely they could put it out now and just keep servers offline?

Either way I'm totally hyped to get to play tomorrow, regardless of difficulty nerf.

Will enjoy replaying DS1 through BC as well. Just hope Souls has a big enough audience on XB1. I'll most likely be double dipping on PS4 copy anyhow.

the biggest thing for me in the XBO Eng ver is that there is no online, no messages which make me realise how much I miss them. There are invisible walls and I've found one, three bosses in, so lord knows how many I'm missing. Also I like to clear areas and - if the boss is interesting - I'll help out a few others with it and I obv cannot do that. This is just the first run for me, will double dip as my friends play on PS4 so by the time they're around I'll be rocking some crazy hex / poison super build or something and romp through it again and again and again.

Been playing since last Thursday. Nearly done.

The difficulty thing really doesn't bother me. I've soldiered through all of the other Souls games at their intended difficulty level and I don't feel like I've missed out because this one is a little easier. Every Souls game has changed with patches post release, so the experience has never been the same for everyone. Numerous areas and enemies have been nerfed or buffed (Shrine of Amana, Lost Izalith for example) and I don't feel that people playing after those patches have had a lesser experience because the challenge is reduced.

I've read a lot of nonsense and elitist crap about this whole debacle over the last few days. It seems to be bothering people who haven't played the English Xbone version more than the people who are, or have played it.

Anyone try out a poison or bleed build, with luck investment? How is it?

It's gonna be hard for me to not just go STR or quality every playthrough, lol

Anyone know how the two handed scaling works this time?

Difficulty is a nonissue (as someone that put 1000s of hours into the franchise). It normalizes after the
Abyss Watchers
as well. So yeah, the complaining is very much unneeded.

They aren't running the same patches and that is simply because the Nalgene Xbox version is the only one currently up to date.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Japan Xbox version is the same as the PC equivalent 1.01.

I just beat the
Dancer of the Boreal Valley
boss. Absolutely demolished the framerate every time it did any big attacks. Game is fantastic so far aside from the framerate though.

That seems to be the case.

FROM balancing the game late in the development, or not balancing it, or releasing a balance patch after the game is released that upends everything, shouldn't be surprising. Dark Souls 1 is a very different game now than it was at launch. 2x souls from many enemies, Humanity and Homeward bones like candy, weapons actually scale a discernible amount, etc.

Is that true? I did notice a big spike in difficulty heading into
Ithyrll area(sp?) and on.

I was breezing through the game up to Ithryll and consider everything from that point onward to be the hardest challenge I've ever had in a Souls game(outside of Bloodborne Chalice dungeons). Some of the bosses still seem a bit easy but the regular enemies are insane.

Have Microsoft done anything to people who took advantage of this? I bought it, and have had my XB1 offline ever since, just in case. But I just bought a load of XBox Live credit, and want to redeem it. Can I safely switch my XB1 back online without losing Dark Souls 3 or anything?

if this makes you feel comfortable: I've been uploading videos of it using the Game DVR and nothing has happened.
