I think that Xbox One Pro will be something for HDR TVs instead of 4K as it seems MS is more invested in HDR than resolution.
Uh... What?
Isn't pretty much every TV that supports HDR 4K anyway? At least they all were a couple of months ago when I was buying a new TV.
That's what I thought. I love HDR tho. The Revenant was incredible 4k HDR
Difficult to describe. Look at some pics in google search. What does HDR exactly bring to movies and games?
Short question: In German games media (Videogameszone.de) Phil's statement is translated as " Xbox 1.5 won't happen"
As my English isn't soo good, what do the native English Gaffers say? Bad translation?

I feel the same. I think it's going to be a very interesting E3 this year.I don't even know what's happening anymore. This is the most interested I have been in an E3 in a long time.
People are talking the quote so far out of context. It has nothing to do with actual hardware specs it's all about branding.
It does have something to do with hardware, he's telling us it will be a significant upgrade and not an incremental one.People are talking the quote so far out of context. It has nothing to do with actual hardware specs it's all about branding.

If were going to go forward with anything, like I said, I want it to be a really substantial change for people an upgrade
Phil really wants a substantial number increase in the nomenclature! Xbox One Billion!do people really think his comment was literally the ".5" and not the idea of incremental updates ala PS4K?

Nothing will be saved if the X1 has to sit behind the PS4 that's behind the NX that's behind the PS4K as the dead last powerful console on the market.Phil Spencer, please save traditional console generation.
Phils comments last month is really all you need to know. They most certainly have plans to offer a mid gen upgrade similar to the ps4. He's good with words and he's using a tad bit of PR. Pretty much saying if they do something like this the upgrade will be substantial. We'll see
Lol, MS is moving more towards a unified ecosystem than Sony is. MS is definitely going down this path, they have been hinting at it since last year. Not only will there most likely be a new Xbox, but I think it will come before or at the same time as whatever Sony is working on.Phil Spencer, please save traditional console generation.

Additionally, I see no reason to "save" the traditional console cycle, as it is outdated and holds the industry back. This new way of doing things is a win for everyone.

We're talking about the console market here not PC. The regular PS4 won't go away and will likely drop to the same price as the Xbox One. It will also support VR and have a deluxe model pushing console boundaries. MS deciding to go to war with Steam isn't a win for the brand. It's a whole other challenge.Except if Microsoft opens all the XBox content to PC, that effectively lets them own both extremes of the spectrum. Want a cheap console? XBox ONE, now $199. Take gaming more seriously? Build a PC, or get a prebuild with Xbox Inside.
Then with a mid-range upgrade, they can have a presence across the whole thing.
You think traditional console cycle holding industry back, I think this new way is what holding industry back, but that's just me.
Enjoy your evolution cycle.
How can something be holding the industry back when it doesn't exist yet?

Don't know if the second paragraph is somehow related to the first one but interesting nonetheless. He was also involved in the original Xbox One APU design.
It exist, it's call PC or mobile.
In plain English means?
Buts that's how it's always been done.
I love having to beg for BC at the turn of every console generation. I love having my expensive peripherals become incompatible at the turn of every console generation. I love having to rebuy the games I already own in order to play them on my new console. I love not being able to play online with my friends less fortunate than me who might not have been able to upgrade to the newer console yet. More than anything, I love having to stack all my old consoles under my TV just so that I can play any game I own any time I want.

Forward/backwards compatibility doesn't mean XB1.5 or PS4K
Hooooooold up.
That straight up mentions a 14nm process. This is potentially big
And those are the two gaming platforms that are currently thriving and are experiencing growth while the console market is shrinking (at least according to the NPD). Hardware and software creators heavily involved in those platforms are also doing very well (no surprise).
Seems anyone could assume this.Hooooooold up.

I'm unsure if this is about SOME processor or somehow related to the first paragraph. Well I could make a thread and see if the profile gets changed
This is an AMD engineer though correct? They are working on 14nm for this year anyways s it may not be a smoking gun as to an Xbox processor.
That said its interesting that someone who has worked quite a bit on the Xbox GPU and ESRAM is now working on a 14nm process GPU. There's a few other interesting nuggets in there as well
He got my interest at the part where he shrank the ESRAM to 20nm AFTER Xbox One did release.
edit: he works for AMD, yes

Using the same technology for 10 years is helping invention and technological breakthrough... But making new technology isn't?You are right, industry want stable environment and make save bet.
Holding industry back it not appropriate statement, let me adjust. This new way is holding invention or tech breakthrough back.
