Ah, fuck it, I'm hyped. BTW, are sure that's Kratos and not another character that's very similar to him (so people are not so angry it's not him)?

I don't remember shit about God of War, is there any sort of pretext for Kratos to be able to just enter a completely different mythological setting or is it not literally the same character?

What sony did to this website was the equivolent of the covenant glassing a planet. Jesus christ, there is literally nothing left. Thank god for gaf

I mean they flat out admitted to hacking into an artist's website in their article. Theres no middle ground there.

I'm just joining in now, but are we talking about the part where the concept art was in the source of the site? That isn't hacking lol.

I don't get why people don't like Kratos as a character. I mean I get it but the character is valid in the universe. Greek mythology characters are all very emotion based. A lot of the gods actually choices in the myths are usually fueled by emotion, most of it anger or revenge.

Wait, they got these images through hacking? WTF? It's one thing when an insider leaks them putting his/her job on the line, but this is just not cool, and it's also invasion of private property.

Edit: ^ What the fuck am I am seeing?

The site was password protected.

It sounds like a gallery was password protected but bringing up the source of the site (anyone can do this) had public front links to these images.

I'm just surmising from the information so far given.

Still gotta make your character interesting, even if he's evil.

Norse is okay but I was really hoping for Egyptian. Egypt is fairly close to Greece so I could see Kratos washing up there and starting a new adventure.

Basically this. You could do it yourself by opening the dev tools in your browser and it won't take long if you have an idea what formats you're searching for.

I dunno. I think you can argue that since the intent was to protect that content behind a password, that to find an alternate way to acquire and distribute...

It'd be an interesting case.

Perhaps so but if there was no actual attack on the site then there's no real basis for anything to be done about it. It's the responsibility of the owners of the site to make sure the data can't be accessed this way, not the users to not exploit it.

Eh. It was. But the password didn't actually do anything so I wouldn't really call it hacking.

I think GOW1 Kratos is a pretty great character - he has an interesting story and he's very well realized through his animations and interactions with the world - but I also I think it's totally fair that people are tired of him at this point.

I don't think his character has much merit outside the context of the narrative arc that has already transpired. There's nothing about him that makes me interested in seeing his next endeavor. I don't care if he still wants his family back or still wants to kill all gods for the sake of human agency or whatever. He's run his course.

because his story should have ended with 3 and didnt need a prequel like ascension. we need a new character

The internet doesn't work the same way as the physical world.

He could try to atone for what he did in the previous trilogy, but that'd just be a farce because

1. He ended the world
2. It'd be a lie because the game exists to murder pantheons and thus the world.

I guess they have to keep making these because they sell but I only ever played the first one and one of the psp ones and that was well enough for me.

No they admitted that they bypassed the password protection on the artist's website

They didn't admit to bypassing the password page. The explanation they gave was that the password protection page didn't really protect anything, and hence they were able to obtain the images.
The images were openly available in the source code. If you just loaded the password page it would automatically load the URLs of all the images without having to do anything. Though I guess the intention was you weren't supposed to look at them.

I'm so confused. Why would anyone expect Kratos to not be in a new GOW game? He's the face of the IP and its been the best selling IP in the genre for a decade. Look at all the fan art and videos involving him around the web. There's NO way he wasn't going to be in this game.

For a second there, I thought it looked like Kratos lost a hand/arm but I think it was that bandage messing with me/probably part of me thinking that they are making him ape Tyr.

Why no one is tired of Mario and Peach? Just give Kratos a chance.

You want to change the setting? We changed it.

You want to change the hero? Why not? Why not then change the storytelling? Why not then change the gameplay and make it an RPG or 3D isometric 'click a location to move' like Diablo?
Why not change even the title? Why not even change the devs and company? Why not even change the console or the platform? Why not even not releasing the game?

Answer: It won't be God Of War anymore and no one will buy it.

A good move is trying to to please some, a stupid move is to try to please everyone.

My guess is that'll it'll be sort of like Zelda. Same character design and name, but with different traits. It'll essentially be a new character.

SSM aren't idiots. They're aware of the common criticims that surround Kratos' character in GOW II and III.
