God Of War 4 art leaks (Norse setting, Kratos w/ beard) [Up2: Polygon says real]

Which part of God of War 4 are you most excited about?

The only good part of God of War 3 was the beginning, found the rest of the game kind of boring and after playing Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising I just couldn't really get used to the gameplay.

Kind of hoped they didn't go with Kratos again. But I like the Norse setting.

What if this was true and you could customize him like you want just like AC Unity: starting from the primitive look to a a high grade warrior after advancing in the game.

That would be great. Always liked games where your equipments changes the way you look, in fact, its almost a game breaker for me when they don't (nowadays).

Hmm, the leaker getting all his accounts and sites nuked within hours seems fairly suspicious. Wondering if it's all a fake now.

I hoped it will be the eygpetion mythology so hard :((

Anyway, I like a new mythology. Kratos comming back not so much. And why does he have a stupid axe? And a stupid beard?

After using the blades of chaos they give you a fucking axe ? :-/

Some pics look really good, hope change in Mythology is real, don't mind if Kratos is back or not honestly, but another greek tour and I'll be sad ;(

I would have preferred a setting in Egypt but this will do the job just as well. I hope it's not kratos, i have nothing against the dude but his story is done

I'm glad that Kratos Payne discovered pants for himself. Pants are convenient and protect your legs from the natural elements and all kind of injuries that come with his line of work. But it's important to remember to wash your pants regularly in case of frequent urinal disasters or people will think you're a smelly pariah when you go to a party

Me too. Fuck SSM if Kratos is not the main protagonist, I'll be out for good. What a slap to their fan base. Of course they would listen to GAF and ignore the majority of the people who love Kratos.

I'm honestly finding it hard to believe anyone at all would like Kratos. Like, is this one of those contrarian internet things? Everyone else hates x, so SOMEONE has to pop up and say "Hey I like x" to make it weird?

For real, even people I know who LOVE God of War think Kratos is a dickbag.

I'm happy they will likely be moving to a new mythology. I think I would have preferred perhaps Egyptian, but Norse could be cool. Kratos I could certainly leave, but it isn't that important to me. I just want that balanced action/adventure game brutal action and enjoyable traversal/puzzles plus epic scale, bosses and setpieces. With Barlog at the helm I expect this game to deliver and then some.

I think im ok with Kratos, but I feel he's story is finished. In with a new interesting and imaginative character.

Well I'm officially interested.

GoW2 was the only GoW game I'd call great, though.

I think GoW2 is the most consistent with great boss fight, but imo GoW1 had the best story, and GoW3 had the highest high of the series. gameplay wise, I also like GoW3 more than GoW2. although I haven't finished Ascension yet.

Maybe its kind of like Zelda with Link (or Superhero comics with their various iterations of the same superhero), same hero, but different character and story. So we get "Kratos", an angry ashen-skinned dude, but this guy has his own backstory and everything- probably akin to the Kratos we know, except with a Norse twist. Its a good compromise in expanding to different mythologies while retaining an iconic figure in gaming.

r.i.p Elves
seriously though, Álfheimr is a cool setting

I agree with most that say that Kratos is such an iconic character that SSM can't just stand up and throw it in the bin, but if they want to change things up with the Norse mythology you definitely need a new looking character.

I highly doubt SSM is that stupid to just use the Kratos model with a beard.

Well according to Shinobi Kratos is not the main character. Fuck this shit. So fucking stupid.

He didn't flat out say that though.

I don't really have anything against Kratos but we've been with him for many years now. I would love a female lead, and a brutal one at that.

This to me is like someone saying 'I mean I know people like Halo, but this Master Chief guy? He just seems so bland.'

The character heightened the gameplay and the world, and vice versa. They're connected. How is this hard to understand?

Really, guy? Kratos is extremely liked and popular figure. It´s you and the 10 other gaffers who seem contrarians.

What's with the Kratos hate?

I don't understand why there is so much hate for what has been an iconic character in the past few generations of gaming?

It would be stupid for him not to be the main character unless the next game is a spin off.

He's a horrible character with a single emotion whose story was run into the ground two games ago. Replace him with literally anything and you open up the series for interesting storytelling at least. Of course, I think most people would rather SSM do anything but God of War in the first place.

I'd settle for Norse mythology with Kratos. But if it's s a different protagonist, I'm thrilled. Fuck Kratos.

So we're just ignoring the multiple threads where people brought up Kratos and basically just responded "nah, fuck that guy". I saw a few fans, but mostly the best thing people could say about him was "well, he was fine but his story's over". Which, yeah, it is.

Even if I didn't hate him, I legit don't see the reason to bring Kratos back. He super won. You could literally beat Zeus not just to death, but until your hands got tired. If you need the game series to center around a "god of war" you can literally do the same idea but create a new character, a different pantheon, and with new reasons to wreck shop.

I have a very high testosterone level, so I can't play games with female main characters.

Why am I not surprised...

Serious question -- did you feel the same about Master Chief in Halo 4?

I'm fairly confident in saying that this will still be Kratos, but a reboot Kratos. Like Lara Croft 2013 vs. Lara Croft in the older Tomb Raider. Or James Bond. Or Link.

I am extremely excited to see what this game will be. Really excited that its Norse Mythology.
