Battleborn Open Beta thread: April 8 (PS4)/ April 13 (PC/XB1) - April 18

Since the Closed Technical Test I never understood all the hate for this game. I think Gearbox has done a great job melding MOBA and FPS. I would like to see quicker matchmaking but from a gameplay standpoint, I really enjoy what Im playing.

So, since I hit Rank 40. The characters that stuck to me are:

Thorn, Reyna, El Dragón, Galilea, Ambra, Deande, Kleese, Rath and Ghalt.

^^ Why no Phoebe on that list?

Phoebe sort of reminds me of that duelist character from League of Legends (cant recall her name right now)

edit- its Fiora

Eh, I didn't have much fun with her. Plus I really hate the teleportation because it just ends up in my trying to find my opponent again to start damaging them.

Just because she has a rapier? :p

Game seems pretty good, but my god people annoying. How hard is it to stand on a lighted pad with an arrow so the door can be opened? Everyone is always trying to be first one in.

Yeah I think only way they could improve melee is let you fight in 3rd person (like Destiny does during the Hunter melee ultimate) or allow you lock on to the target (ala Dark Souls, etc)

Phoebe's teleportation woes is linked to that I think.

Yeah, that would be a whole lot better. Especially since there's so much going on that you can't see all that well.

I don't think locking would be the greatest idea, considering what some characters can do.

Downloaded the beta, jumped into story mode, no idea what I am playing/supposed to do, selected some bow and arrow Hunter lady, kicked ass.

Had fun.

The audio mix is pretty bad in this game, sounds are very muted the moment they occur at some distance from my character. Other times I feel like there should be some music in a specific moment but there is nothing.

The game is fun, though I totally kicked ass thanks to my experience with the previous beta.
Playing it supersampled at 1600p, 60fps.

A lot of people wait until then to put a mic up to Telemundo at full volume

LOL.

On PS4 just bring up the scoreboard with the touchpad and hit square I believe to mute all. Dunno bout PC. I've only been able to mute individual players before the match starts, maybe I'm missing something.

Enjoying the co-op mode quite a bit. Haven't messed with the versus modes yet though.

By the way, is anyone else having an issue with the game crashing at the character select screen? Seems to crash every time without fail, but I can rejoin the match and continue without any problems from there on.

If BB wasnt gonna bomb so hard, it would surely set a new standard for hero diversity. Each hero basically has 6 different skills, even before factoring the crazy amount of diversity in leveling them up!

Ah enjoying this much more on PC. Runs like butter and overall seems like a damn decent PC version of the game (as Borderlands 2 was as well). It doesn't help the combat feel any weightier but it's just great at 60fps/with a m&kb. If I can get it cheap I might get it on release, even purely for the single player/coop and a bit of multi.

I was wrong about Battleborn. This game is actually really cool. characters have multiple build paths and are diverse.

Playing solo, beat Geoff, internet hiccuped, got booted to the main menu. Was having fun 'til that happened. This is why I don't like/support games that insist on having always online single player.

Started it up on PS4, did the first story mission by myself, super heavy Borderlands vibes, which is awesome, but didn't like how easily I could be one shot. I was playing as the generic space marine guy, and during that one boss that splits into two, he did a jump slam on me, which caught me off guard, and I died.

Also jumped into my first online match as ISIC, and had a blast. ISIC was tearing up things with his cannons, but I guess we can buy equips a la League of Legends? If so, how? I went the whole match without anything, but noticed the enemy had stuff equipped.

Tried the solo story mode, didn't like it very much. It just felt like a chore to go through. Gonna see how multiplayer goes later.

I've only played story missions so far but it feels like a poor man's Borderlands. Maybe I shouldn't ask before playing the multiplayer but why is this game even compared to Overwatch? I just don't get it.

People that haven't played either of them think they look similar. I mean, I get it, Overwatch looked verya Moba-esque just at a glance too, but yeah in practice they're very different besides first person having abilities.

Because of the hero character aspect with similar PvP mode.

Both have a large cast of characters. But the difference is in personality and blizzard has done a far better job expressing each character with its own unique personality that has its own story.

Gearbox seems to have almost copied character types from league of legends and dota. Bit don't have a interesting world or lore like what overwatch has hinted at. And the kicker there is no co-op, or campaign in overwatch. But it seems to have more polish, realized characters and world then battlebore.

Miko is gonna be one of my mains. I am getting insane heals and kills with it.

How do you get shields?

Think you have to have the mushroom skill powered up

You get several gear packs by doing story missions, or you can by them in Command with credits. You also get them sometimes for raising a character's rank.

That all depends just how much you like Gearbox humor. These characters talk a lot when your using them.

Tried playing on my Surface Pro 2. Lowest settings and I was getting ~8fps in-game. Resolution settings are all fucked in this alpha. only worked in borderless window.

That said, I can tell this game is going to be my fucking JAM. I have been hungering for a new moba shooter ever since Super Monday Night Combat bit the dust. This is totally going to be a game I play. I'll have to try it on my desktop tonight where I know I'll get 60fps. I'm loving the helix idea for skill augment.

This game is so fun. I would like this game to be more popular because i think it deserve it. Of course you have to play a lot to see the depth of the game.

I felt the exact same about Super Monday Night Combat.

That game still died.

Hopefully Gearbox can get this rollin'. Overwatch comparisons and launch window are eating it's lunch, unfortunately.

I guess people aren't used to MOBA matchmaking times... this is pretty typical.

EDIT: So far I feel like there's not nearly enough indication that you're getting hit or where from.

Does this game remind anyone else of Monday Night Combat?

Incursion is just like playing MNC all over again, and that's certainly not a bad thing. I didn't come into this beta expecting much, but man it's fun. First and third-person MOBAs are a criminally underrated concept IMO. I sure wish there were more of them.

Yeah the only way to know is just be 100% aware of the minimap. Luckily the minions don't do tooo much damage but if you are getting tagged and look at your minimap and see an enemy icon it's 99% of the time coming from that direction.

I'm surprised at the people complaining about leavers/DC's. It's always been a huge deterrent in MOBA's to a lot of people. The only way around it is to form your own 5 man party or stick to ranked where people will take it more seriously. BB being a completely free and open beta, you're going to have people that don't give a damn about the game trying it out and leaving whenever they want.

Penalties are pointless when the people leaving don't care about the game to begin with. It'll be better once you actually have to pay to play and you get out of the initial ranking phase in ranked mode. If leavers frustrate you, that is just the tip of the iceberg of frustrations in MOBA type games.

Yep, I clearly don't know how to play a moba or whatever variation of it Battleborn is. Should probably watch the bootcamp trailer....

Incursion is hilarious because I keep getting healers who insist on battling thralls.

Also, I wish it would let you switch characters after picking so you can adapt if you see too much of a lopsided team (i.e. all attackers, no heal/support)
