Bamco Producer - "Which Ace Combat/Ridge Racer remake do you want to see?"

Nah. It's a good racing game, and a decent attempt at appealing to the GT demographic by Namco's own admission, but it's not really what Ridge Racer is all about.

and this is exactly why it's the only decent one, the awful racing mechanics of the others is toned back and improved

Guys, AC0 not being there can only mean they ALREADY decided they would remake it.
Possibly releasing soon too.

I think you're confusing type 4 with r:racing evolution or whatever it's called.

No, I mean Type 4.

Actually they didn't change much mechanics wise. A lot of the high spec cars you can unlock are very similar to their early RR equivalents. It's just that the road to getting there is a lot of grinding and a lot of slow, boring, low level races and conversations with your pit crew. It's Ridge Racer: The RPG.

The best Ridge Racers are the first few immediate, arcadey, fast, skillful ones.

Why no rage racer or either of the PSP ridge racers compilations? Type 4 is ok but I'd rather have one of those. No RRV either. What a strangely limited list

Obviously the only sensible answer here for ace combat is all of them. But if I had to choose I'd go with 4. The last battle was so epic and memorable for me.

I guess I'm ok with Type 4 of those that were available to vote on (I'd have been horrified if RR7 won)... Would have preferred Ridge Racer V though, which had easily the best gameplay in a Ridge Racer game.

Ace Combat 5 is definitely the correct choice for an Ace Combet remake.

Meh.

AC5 end game blew AC4 end game out of the water.

The epic in-city battle under the dark sky. The exceptionally epic tunnel run. The incredibly epic YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO passing. The rush as the door closes in.

And THEN you shot the crap out of a falling satellite. With THIS playing on the background.

Not to mention the epic Whitebird fight, the stadium fight, the submarine boss, the stealth mission, etc etc. So fucking epic, all of them.

GOD I really LOVE Ace Combat 5.

Meh? Lol. 4,5 and zero were all epic. "Meh" isn't a term that should be associated with any of them.

For me, rex tremendae + agnus dei during that last fight was never surpassed. Equaled maybe, but not surpassed.

Adding some depth to the game was a good thing, though. I respect your opinion of course, but for me, at the time, type 4 felt amazing. The aesthetic, music and gameplay really came together amazingly well to create something special. Let's not forget that, at the time, previous Ridge racer games had one track with 2 variations and a handful of cars to play.

well ridge racer type 4 is the only properly good ridge racer ever so that poll was kinda pointless

but heres an idea, DONT REMAKE ANY OF THEM, make a new game in the same style as type 4

I loved Ridge Racer and Ridge Racer Revolution and I happen to know for a fact that Rage Racer is a great game.

Really hope they remaster those games and make them 60fps like the arcade ones.

In terms of gameplay, I'd argue that Type 4 removed the vast majority of the series' depth. It's one of the clearest examples of style over substance imo. The way the game looked and sounded was easily the best the series had ever been (and up there in regards to any racer ever)... but the game itself was dumbed down to the point where you almost couldn't fuck it up. You had to find a way though, as that was the only way to unlock more than 4 cars per manufacturer.

Ace Combat Zero is better than them all but AC4 is the best game of those choices. 5 is lengthy but ridiculously easy in comparison to the others. 4 had this timeless, fairy-tale like surreal story. Those cutscenes still give me chills. Yellow13 is forever a videogame icon in my eyes.

Type 4 brought in a lot of new players to RR, sure, but personally I invested many, many times more hours into the first two RR games for PSone, and even the arcade titles, than I did in Type 4, despite the fact that Type 4 is hugely padded out.

Don't get me wrong, the first time I played Type 4 I was amazed by the quality of the graphics and the intro, and it's a solid game, but the sim-y, grindy, urban cool approach isn't what I want from my garish, techno-infused, instant gratification, deliriously self-indulgent arcade Ridge Racer. Plus it's not the same without Aya, Megaten, Sanodg and J99.

Rage Racer > RR Type 4.

I'd probably even agree to this, too.

V is underappreciated

Agreed, it's really good.

V is underappreciated, the mechanics are better and it was sleek as fuck when it came out. Unfortunately the soundtrack was not on par

Thisssss. AC5 pls. There is no decent way to play this game right now, aside from emulating (and even then).

Shouldn't the correct answer be Ace Combat 3 since that's probably our only chance to get the full proper english release of the game legally?

I was worried coming in thinking people were going to choose some shit RR and AC. But no, my internet bros, RR:T4 won and AC5 is going to, yes!

The AC5 trailer still gives me goosebumps, was such a fanastic game, I mean 4 and 0 were great, but 5 was really top notch Ace Combat. I recently picked up Assault Horizon Legacy for the 3DS after someone said it was essentially a AC2 remake, and it totally was, really took me back. I would love a PS2 Ace Combat trilogy remaster/remake, such a good trilogy.

I might have to go dig my PS2 out.

Can I pick an alternate option and ask for a new Klonoa instead?

Wait, no, scratch that, it'll likely end up on mobile. :(

I haven't played Ace Combat 3 since it came out in 2000 here, so I can't remember it much, what was wrong with the translations? were they just not very good or were they just shitty and I don't remember or didn't notice at the time.

AC 3 or 4 is the way to go. 5 was the only one in the series that I never really could get into. I would even rank 6 above it. Zero is spiffy too.

Ridge Racer Type 4 is and always will be one of my top 5 favorite games of all time (heck, it was the first thing I downloaded on my PS3). I played the demo to death back in the day and picked it up the full release day 1. It was certainly the racing game that dragged me away from GT1 (until GT2 came out!). I think a remake with some slight added content (like 1-2 tracks and 3-4 new songs) that captures (or to be more blunt, mimics) the style of the original would be fine. If they added a new team or two for the story that wouldn't even be bad.

Half the game was missing. (It was 2 discs in Japan, 1 in the States). If I recall a lot of cut-scenes especially. I played the Japanese one and it was GLORIOUS.

I don't want to see remakes at all. And considering how successful all of their free-to-play franchise titles performed, I do not see the justification other than cashing in. This is exactly the kind of business practice that should not be rewarded by consumers.
