NPD Sales Results for March 2016

It hasn't really been this way for years, at least not for Sony. Last year they had Bloodborne. Infamous before that. God of War Ascension before that. Plenty of other God of War titles before that.

Sony usually drops a big exclusive in March (outside of MLB), so it is kind of surprising they didn't this year.

Uncharted 4 was the plan.

It was supposed to be Uncharted 4 I think.

The other way.
I'm confuse here...

- SFV did 205k NPD launch
- Pokken outsold it by a good margin (like you said)
- LTD SFV > Pokken

That means SFV have good sales in second month with good hold... if it is not that then the Pokken and SFV sales for first month needs to be close.

50k for SFV is a 75% drop... it is a normal drop I guess... 70k for SFV is a really good drop with 60%... I will be surprise if it hold that good.

Fantastic result for TP, and wow at Pokkén charting too. Do we have an idea of Zelda's numbers?

I bought Twilight Princess (and regretted it...made me realize how bad the game actually was :/)

To be honest, the only thing Capcom can do is a discounted re-release with a ton of content.

And even that will flop. SFV is done-zo.

I think your concept of good is different.

I just mean that some months aren't going to have big exclusives from Sony and Microsoft, but I guess you're right if you're talking March specifically.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
They would hold hands on their adventures.

I misunderstood.

Ah! They're such good pals outside of the training, I knew it.

That's it for clever leaking for today. Time to sleep for me, someone else should try for Nintendo Selects. Be creative, guys!

Lots of good the marketing deal for The Division did. I wonder if PC or Xbox has a larger playerbase. The sales on Steam are wicked and that would only account for a part of the total sales.

And I took so much shit for calling SF5 a niche game....
In its current form it is, but if they had all the content there it would have been performing MUCH better in sales. In fact I'm sure they would've reached near (if not exactly hit) their sales target by now if the initial release was solid.

Instead aside from solid game mechanics and a pretty good starting roster it was completely devoid of interesting non-online non-multiplayer content and the servers didn't even work at launch all that well.

So uh...yeah.....

If people consider Rise of the Tomb Raider a failure (in terms of sales), what do they think about Street Fighter V?

RIP SF

I'm surprised that Minecraft on PS4 beat out XB1. Maybe it's happened before but I feel like it's been historically stronger on both Xboxes.

A bit gutted about SFV's extreme drop; I'm guessing the backlash has definitely set in. Capcom is probably done with fighters for a while if not forever but they really should have waited until June to release it at retail. The game just wasn't ready from a content POV in February, plain and simple.

Welp, at least SNKP are back in the game. Legit excited to see their efforts. And Namco of course is always good. Hey maybe Sega will wake up and actually do a new Virtua Fighter xD. And of course Arcs and the KI team and NRS are still in it.

The genre'll be fine, but we aren't getting another SF this gen. Hell, I don't even see V's roster going too far beyond the promised 6 unless mods get crazy(er) and can do some stuff similar to Mugen (in terms of editing move properties, not just doing re-skins. Think Project M style modding). That'd put the PC version up there for sure.

At this rate Pokken should be able to outsell SFV within another month. If not by a huge margin, then a noticeable one.

I doubt it will get into Splatoon territory tho, let alone Smash. The more challenging the game, the less people'll want it (these days). Sucks for them I guess.

See, part of me is thinking this could turn into a repeat of what happened to fighters during the PS2 era. Back then they were pretty niche, and one factor might have been how Capcom basically sat out that gen except for some re-releases.

PS2 era had a lot of fighting games, but awareness of them was nothing like the post-2008 revival. Circa 2005 or 2006 people were actually wondering if fighters were dead outside Japanese arcade. Most were still relying on really old business models, yet the only ones that were actually moving towards the inevitable future (online) were games the FGC ridiculed like Mortal Kombat Deception and Dead or Alive 4.

Now we see Capcom being really cautious about fighting games again, and not looking to the future (F2P) as much as other fighters like KI and DOA are.

I'm probably wrong though. Capcom will probably try to repair SFV sometime around Evo in June.
