Well, SFV is a super front loaded game to no one's surprise.
If SFV is super front loaded game then what most games with 75-80% drop in second month are?

Tks for the sales data man...

Estimated WW for SF is what around 650K? Can someone else do the UK/JP/Digital stuff/ROTW stuff? I’m too lazy for all that lol
From my head... so it could be not accurate.

US ~270k
UK ~40k
JP ~70k
PC ~160k

~540k

* Outaded numbers except PC and US

Most gamers give MS and Square both justified criticism for launching Rise of the Tomb Raider exclusively on Xbox One for one year.

Sony and Capcom should both be held responsible for the sales failure SFV has been. Sony had to have paid for some sort of console exclusivity to Capcom or Capcom made a huge mistake by just skipping out on the Xbox One American install base.

Sales from Street Fighter 4 were at around 840,000 for just its launch in February 2009 most going to the Xbox 360.

The Xbox 360 version of Street Fighter IV came in second with 446,000 units, followed by the PlayStation 3 edition's 403,000 units

There's a couple things wrong with this post. You can go to the February NPD for a detailed breakdown on SFV talk.

Hint: One more console wasn't going to stop it from being a bomb.

Looks like Capcom got a lesson in never make a game just for the "pros". Casuals are always the bread and butter. The story mode in SFV is the most shameful mode in fighting game history.

BTW, I like the game.
I just don’t get why they didn’t make the story mode into the standard Arcade mode though? Like those drawings and cut-scenes are good enough for an intro/ending lol...

- Just make each character start out with that initial still.
- Make you fight against the whole cast with Bison/V-trigger Necalli at the end
- Unlock a few colors every time you beat a characters’s arc
- Advertise the big update and real story is in June

it’s like, the content is already there for a barebones Arcade mode lol...Dunno why they put it in like they did.

SFV also didn't have 10 years of anticipation for a new numbered entry. Putting this game on another platform wouldn't have done much to help it. Just look at it on PC. Also TR and this game are different situations.

SFV was known to be exclusive since it's inception. TR became exclusive after its initial reveal.

Good points, especially given the fact how much hype there was for SFIV at the time when it launched and how fighting game fans had been waiting.

There was that Halo 3 hype thread from yesterday but the hype for SFIV was huge when it released, especially for a game released in February.

Still though, hypothetically, if Sony paid to have it console exclusive it obviously didn't pay off.

Or if Capcom decided to not launch the game on Xbox One they lost a lot of sales combined with another large potential player base.

SFIV's growth and popularity was certainly helped by the fact it launched on both the 360 and PS3 on the same day.

Ok, those were my numbers as well, I just estimated a possible 100K we can’t account for in ROTW and Digital.

so how come pokken did so well? it seems like it was a sleeper hit. is it because smash bros. paved the way?

it's just weird compared to street fighter v which seemed a lot bigger in terms of marketing presence and promotion.

What ever happened to the real MAU numbers from Microsoft? That was their number to gauge success, but I only think they have given 2 updates since they announced their new metric. I just assumed there would be updates in at least every other NPD PR. I am just curious as to how the number has grown since their Windows 10 initiative with Xbox One.

You would think they should have some very nice monthly active user numbers steadily growing recently. Instead, they focus on hours played compared to last year, which should obviously be higher after a full year of additional worldwide console sales. But you would think MAU numbers, after the focus Microsoft placed on them, would make for much better, positive sounding PR and should be pretty impressive at this point.

The whole MAU fascination has obviously been a thing in these NPD threads, most for fun, but some of us have been seriously curious. Are the numbers leveling off? Do they wait until the MAU numbers build and make a bigger splash? Was it a bait and switch tactic to turn the focus from console sales to a different number they really weren't going to consistently share publicly? Is MAU more of a number only for investors?

I honestly think that MAU numbers are going to remain more of a Financial Report statistic in place of console sales, and the MAU updates in NPD PR are going to remain pretty rare. I guess everyone can stop asking for the holy MAU update each month.

I thought I saw number for Pokken it the 250K range? I didn’t know that was doing so well?

Nah, don’t think it would’ve helped much man. People want to play a lot of different ways OFFLINE. SFV, along with the small rosters, does not do that yet. There’s probably like 100 million platforms between PS4/PC’s capable of running the game so user base is not the issue, it’s just content and lack of hype.

I honestly think a lot of it is just Wii U owners being starved for big(ger) games. Wii U exclusives do pretty well because the system doesn't have third party support; It's funny since so far this gen, PS4 and Xbox One exclusives haven't done too well because of those systems having great third party support.

It has been a very interesting generation.

______________

I think this is one of the games with that big digital share. Plus it had a bundle

True. I wonder how the bundle did.

Pokken did good because it was a fun Pokemon spin-off that obviously had a lot of effort put into it while also being appealing to fighting game fans by providing them with something new, yet still satisfactory. Nothing more, nothing less. The state of the Wii U had no bearing on Pokken's sales.

I just question where Ubisoft found they sold more than Destiny or Watch Dogs.

Unless they are talking only about revenue and not sales because the gap is really big:

US it sold way less
UK it sold way less
JP it sold way less

I don't thing Digital and others places can make the gap that is already over 1m for Destiny.

I don’t understand this? How come people keep moving goal posts with was is successful?

Infamous - successful
Killzone Shadow Fall - successful
MLB - successful
Until Dawn - successful
Blood Borne - successful
Knack - successful

The Order - bombed
DriveClub- claimed back success
SFV - bombed

More success than bombs here unless my math is wrong? I don’t want to hear stuff like “it was only because it was at launch” that’s nonsense. People like Killzone and Knack was a decent time at budget prices. Sales are sales.

Not everything is going to be Splatoon or Smash brothers and sell 5 million units.

Digital share is substantially larger than when those titles launched and PC is significantly over 1 million

I mean idk if I'd call until dawn a success Chart wise. Wasn't it below rare replay? But I suppose Sony may have been happy with what it was
