Techradar: Leaked Red Dead sequel map is real, takes place before Redemption

As much as I would LOVE a prequel with a younger Marston minus his 5 face scars I would be fine with a new set of characters.

I'm just glad I won't be playing Marston's son anymore.

Like Niko dying at the end of GTA 4 and you gotta finish your sidequests playing his dumbass useless cousin Roman...

GTA V announcement was literally just a black background and the GTA V logo on it. The internet lost its shit anyway.

Yeah I remember creating the thread for that and it was just a countdown for the trailer. lol

It was kind of shit though because their focus was on Max Payne 3 and then they threw massive shade on it because nobody cared about Max Payne after that, they just wanted future updates about GTAV and constantly spammed Rockstar's newsfeed.

So was the Mafia 3 city just an Easter egg?

We don't know how old that image or map is so given both Rockstar and Mafia 3 are under Take Two it could of been a temp placeholder?

Or the natural and obvious answer could be that Rockstar took a real location to put in their world like New Bordeaux, South Carolina. lol Kind of makes sense given New Orleans being established by French colonists and New Bordeaux was established by the French too but rather than obviously call it New Orleans just go with a town or colony that no longer exists but share similarities.

That was actually hilarious. Love the in depth analysis of Mideon's reactions and post history.

LOL Yeah and Venom Snake's reaction too. Priceless.

Yeah, outside or the current GTA remaster when was the last time Rockstar was at E3?

I expect a Tuesday PR release and a countdown clock till the following Tuesday at 12PM EST. We will get an epic 90 second trailer that really just creates more questions than it answers.

The internet will break. So excited. It hopefully all happens soon.

If it's in that post-Civil War period and dealing with the reconstruction and whatnot on the side I would be unreasonably hyped.

My dream is two characters. A young woman who's family escaped the South during the Civil War. And a male Native American. They end up being bffs besides their differences. Third character is the Red Dead Online custom character.

Not actually that important
I wonder if with that much water on the map they'll incorporate some meaningful gameplay mechanics tied to that. Fishing and underwater knife-hunting are probably a lock, as is the inclusion of Casinó/Bordello/Blackjack-boats... I mean, it's not like they can go Black-Flag on it but hopefully they won't phone it home with rhe usual fluff just to put a few more marks on a checklist

Listen, no need for this. You acted like a self-important a-hole know-it-all backseat-mod, which sure is a lot of "-", you made a fool out of yourself and rightfully reaped the rewards. Accept it and maybe learn something from it if you want or don't and move on, I honestly don't know what to tell you anymore.

Carry on, post shaming is also ban-able. Isn't it?

You still don't get it, unbelievable.
I'll tell you what is for sure: backseat modding.

I'm trying to clean this up but some of the words are really hard to read. Can anyone help decipher the missing text? The next step is to put the Red Dead map into the whole image (there's a piece in the corner).

If I have to I'll send you a damn 360 and my disc. No one should have missed out on that gem. The multiplayer hoarde mode was divine. The wave start dash to the coffin for power weapons...

Undead Nightmare is some of the best DLC there is.
Haha, no need for that. I think I'll head into town today and see if I can't find a cheap 360 and a copy of the game.

This is what I'm gonna do. Looking out for a cheap 360 because I miss playing Redemption. Will be getting a few other games I missed out on.

I'm definitely gonna have to replay this once or twice before RD3 comes out.

I hope they get Bill Elm and Woody Jackson to do the music for this one. I still listen to the RDR soundtrack, it's just great music in general.

wait so did some new info slip besides the original map and its confirmation? It feels like people are posting in here now with the imminent expectation of some news coming out.

pretty sure the region in the middle is the Heartlands

and does it say "intro" under the smaller Grizzlies region?

I really hope that one of the main characters is an Indian, and not a "half white/half Indian" but full bloodied, I think that's something woefully unexplored in westerns let alone in the few video games, where they aren't simply treated as npc's or such.

I had been assuming Read Dead 3 was going to take place in the 1920s and would be a Bonnie and Clyde esque story. I made this assumption from something Verendus said in his 12 Christmas hints from a couple years ago. He linked to some sort of weird Bonnie and Clyde video. I quickly jumped on the idea that this was refrencing Read Dead 3, because
Read Dead Redemption ends in 1914 with John Marston's son. Thought this was a good fit with Rockstar because of the crime driven narratives of their games
.

Dumb and pointless theory now, but I still wanted to share it because I grew quite attached to it.

I hate Rockstar for how they play with us. I wouldnt be surprised if they'd just release the logo (case GTA V) and that's it.

Cheers for the help guys! Warning; Huge images incoming!

I think the original posted image was probably someone's old personal map on the team. Here's an updated map with the added RDR terrain. Can you imagine the scale if Rockstar hooked up both areas! You can see the extracted streaming chunks from Red Dead Redemption matches up perfectly with the cross over terrain (from an extracted archive on the XBOX disc).

I think the reason people look at it and think "smaller" is because of the water, there's just so much water, the huge lake, all rivers and things.

Hopefully it means that we both the character AND horses can swim (yes, horses can swim, you can ride a horse across a river).

People never had trouble with this back in those days, the problem was when you had wagons and other things, then that's when you had to be careful about crossing a river and know where to cross and be wary.

I'm not a big fan of prequels. But then again Metal Gear Solid 3 was the best MGS imo. So I'm in anyway. I just can't stand the wait.

Great work on this page Tibbs, getting ridiculously excited. I generally prefer the more Western areas/settings (large open plains, the "Texas" desert, the red rock regions, etc.) so I am a bit more apprehensive about it going further east, but I have complete and total faith in Rockstar. It probably won't happen but confirming the entire area of the old game would be so damn cool, especially if it's going to be earlier and less developed.

I could see them doing the "any random Thursday" reveal of the game sometime leading up to E3, and then doing a further gameplay demo/release date at either MS or Sony's press conference at E3. As others have said, they can take over the news cycle for days at a time with simple images or teaser trailers.... they don't need E3 to announce this thing.

The huge lake is from RDR, just an alternatve from cliffs as far as I'm concerned for now. There's only the one island to reach which could be for a specific prison mission or has its own ferry.

The 'world border' even uses a river from the previous game to mark the bottom left corner. RDR had places you could wade through, and I'm sure they will have those again especially for the bayou.
