Dark Souls 3 is Bandai Namco America's fastest selling game ever

Wasn't it heavily implied by a GAF insider that Sony and FROM have a 3 game deal? Not necessarily for Bloodborne games but exclusives.

Yeah, Verendus said there's a 3 game deal. Hopefully he's wrong. These games are markedly better experiences in 60 fps.

Congrats to FromSoft, never doubted DS3 after Bloodborne.
Hopefully we get more Souls and Bloodborne, there's just no replacement to these games.

Bloodborne allowed the team to make something different, so the interest for FROM would be to to get funding from a company that allows them to take their games in a new direction.

It happened with demon's souls and then they did dark souls.

Does this mean we could see "Blackborne" on multiplat?

Also, I dont think FROM needs that funding. I think they took Sony's funding and they did the new engine (which we're all enyoing).

The steps FROM are taking with this gen so far are identical to past-gen.

yes, give me a Mecha game that plays as well as Bloodborne. There's so much potential
play For Answer (also directed by Miyazaki!)

it's the closest you'll get

uh, BB/DS3 are the DS2 engine.

He's making the point that he'd prefer to play the game on PC.

DeS and BB were created and released under very different circumstances.

Considering Bloodborne has sold more than 2.1 million copies, it's safe to assume they're being courted by Sony to make something else....if they aren't already.

Man, the Bloodborne 2 announcement thread is going to feel like Bayonetta 2 reveal, I can already sense it.

Counter-point: Fuck exclusivity as a concept.

I still loved Bloodborne but exclusives suck and generally shouldn't be a thing.

Dark Souls happened because Sony screwed up with Demon's Souls, thinking it had no sales potential. Bloodborne was the result of them seeing this error.

I think we'll see more multiplats and exclusives out of FROM in the future.

If exclusives mean great games get to be made that wouldn't otherwise exist, I'm perfectly fine with them. They've never bothered me and they never will.

I'd want Bloodborne II and III on PC, as well as PS4. I don't think anyone wants the series to die, they just want the option of playing it at 60fps with correct frame pacing. I finished Bloodborne and enjoyed it, but the frame pacing and frame rate dips hurt the game massively for me, whereas on PC Dark Souls III is a borderline orgasmic experience, it's just so crisp and responsive and looks absolutely gorgeous.

I think you misunderstand how this works. Its not Sony ordering around, FROM does actually have to accept the contracts and they have accepted same they did last gen (that we know of). If DS3 sells better than Bloodborne I dont see any reason for FROM to go only deving exclusively for PS4.

Edit: Unless the contract is already signed as the insider's suggest and thus FROM is chained, but knowing how things went for them last gem that would be a really silly move.

This, pretty much. Limiting the choice helps no customer, just a company.

Nope. Dark Souls 1 >>> Demons Souls. I would take a spiritual successor like that, or just let them take it in a whole new direction altogether.

I would buy a Bloodborne sequel but I'd rather get more multiplats.

All Dark Souls games have sold better than Bloodborne. I don't think sales are the only reason they created that game. Creative teams enjoy being creative and when a big publisher is willing to fund your vision, in many cases, you accept that offer.

Congrats to From. Well deserved as it's a fantastic game.

Why did this turn into exclusivity wars man stop being afraid of nothing
Because they dared to make you wait the terrifying amount of time from the JP release, right?

Personally its cause 90% of their marketing with the game is so fucking horrible, literally posting end game bosses and areas in trailers and on social media. Froms own trailers for japan werent no where as bad.

Absolutelly, thats why I said the bigger FROM gets the less they're going to need funding to do this. If anything Bloodborne has been a proof that any souls-game will do OK in the market as long as FROM is behind, I dont see why Bamco wouldnt fund a new IP.

DeS and BB were created and released under very different circumstances.

Care to elaborate?

I don't see why Bandai wouldn't fund a new IP either.

That doesn't suddenly take a Bloodborne 2 off the table though. FROM is comprised of multiple teams.

I agree, I just dont see why they would do something that gives them less money. Unless already signed, as I said.

don't forget the memes

Bamco's western marketing was pretty... undignified.

FROM marketing in Japan wasn't good either. Their launch trailer (Bamco's Accused version) showed almost everything

I feel like you're being sarcastic but OrbitalBeard already said enough. DeS was a brand-new IP and game and Shuei passed up on it, Sony have been quoted saying that it just didn't look good.

Atlus picked it up for publishing but the IP remained Sony's and so released on PS3. Shuei spoke for years about how much he loved the Souls series and it was clear he wanted to give FROM the ability to a create an exclusive title for the Playstation again.

For what it's worth, I'm not interested in a Bloodborne 2. The world was cool but it was too ambigious and didn't really grab me like Souls. As for the exclusivity, I don't really mind. Games are expensive and if publishers on manafacturers wanna foot the bill for a new IP then be my guest. It's better than safe bet Dark Souls 4.

I'm so happy for FROM and Miyazaki. Fuck Namco and their awful and tasteless marketing, spoilers, and pure greed when it came to the release date and the embargo.

took me a few seconds but I got it
He wants freedom of choice in terms of where to play. And so do I.

Isn't bloodborne a 1st party game though? I thought asking for a multiplat sequel would be the same as asking for uncharted 4 to be multiplatform.

does dark souls 3 on consoles have the same framerate issue that bloodborne does?

Here are some mostly soundtrack and guide related things:

They've stopped doing real choirs also for the music. DS1 was the only Dark Souls game with a properly orchestrated

Also they went with Prima for the guide and it has a considerably lower (between 1.5-2 stars) on Amazon vs future's nearly flawless guides with epicnamebro.

Plus the fact that they cut out the tracks and abruptly ended most of them before phase 2 etc. not happy.

More OST discussion on the subreddit if anyone cares. Also obvious spoiler warning for boss names for tracks here.

Demons souls was made from a failed project which sold terribly in japan which went on to be a cult hit WW

Bloodborne was made after the success of the souls series WW.

Yoshidas gone out to say they dropped the ball on not localising and nurturing the Demons Souls ip.

They are 2 very different situations.

It's the best Souls type game so it's only fitting really.

I wonder what they'll do next, Souls franchise probably does need a short-medium term break but it brings in the money.

Luckily Bloodborne was orchetrated ;)

Yeah, fuck Namco for having Future Press work on the first two games (three if you include Bloodborne) and then get greedy with Prima.

Sorry, I wasnt trying to be sarcastic at all. I didnt know when you said it was different situations you were speaking from Sony's point of view.

All this is cool and all but again, I'm sure Sony now wants to be friends and all, I just dont see on FROM side when they would bite when they can do better from themselves now a days.

I liked Bloodborne a lot and if I could choose I would like either Bloodborne 2 (on multiplat) or a new IP. But if all there is to choose is PS4-tied title or anything else, I take anything else, the performance just breaks it for me. And its not even related to PS4 for me, I would buy Demon's remaster in hearthbeat as long as it runs like SOFTS on PS4.

I've already answered, your points are all very fair, I just dont think FROM's situation is the same than back then (even from a Bloodborne point of view). I'm sure Sony wants (if not already done) more games from FROM.

Isn't bloodborne a 1st party game though? I thought asking for a multiplat sequel would be the same as asking for uncharted 4 to be multiplatform.

Demons Souls -> Dark Souls
Bloodborne -> Bloodbourne? xD

To your second question, I understand framerate and frame pacing still pretty bad in DS3 on consoles.

Hopefully they can justify the extra effort and cost to fix the framerate pacing. It's the only thing that bums me out about this game (I'm playing on PC).
