Dark Souls 3 is Bandai Namco America's fastest selling game ever

well deserved success.

Nintendo squandered Metroid by chasing other audiences it wanted and shitting on its core fans.

Fromsoft had a bold vision and created a niche for itself and GREW something

Take notes, Nintendo

Please do not let me serve on a jury. I am actually a crazy person.
Mecha souls should be a goddamn thing.
AC was even near.

Dark Souls could become FROM's pokemon franchise and I wouldnt mind tbh...I want more and more of this goodness and quality.

I would gobble up every game if they manage to maintain this standard if games.

Plus, Nintendo don't have the staff to make a new 3D Metroid game every 2/3 anyway.

It's truly remarkable that the Souls series is so successful. I don't think anyone could have predicted this in the Demons Souls days!

I'm ready for a 2-3 year break though. Bloodborne 2 would be nice in 2018, but I really want to see what else they have cooking. I'm hoping for something quite far removed from the Souls gameplay (Otogi please)

Screw that. I want a similar game core mechanic wise but in a completely different setting. No one else makes games like they do. I'll get my fill for all the other stuff from other devs.

I still remember that no one thought we would ever see a sequel to Demon's Souls. How times have changed. Seriously one of the greatest video game series of all time. Congrats to From. Here's hoping they're allowed a well deserved break so they can focus on something new and don't get burned out creatively.

My Chinese import of demon's is one of my most treasured gaming possessions. Such an amazing community experience.

Well obviously I want them to keep making games like this... I did buy 5 of them after all haha. But I want them to experiment with different genres as well. It always depresses me when developers get stuck making a single series or genre. That's fine if everyone is on board, but From have always been a pretty diverse and creative studio.

Well deserved and really happy to see Steam numbers being so high.

I really hope a DS4 is at least 3 years away!

Yeah, it's pretty crazy. Metroid is an incredibly tragic example of how to completely destroy a franchise.

I cherish the memories but I'm completely done hoping for anything exciting from that IP again.

With Dark Souls and Bloodborne, FROM has created some of my favorite games of all time. Games that are right up there with the best video game experiences from my youth, back in the 80's and 90's.

Good. I'd certainly buy a Souls game every 2 years for the foreseeable future.

Lmao what.
I only played Sunken City but that's one of the best areas in the series and easily better than anything in the main game.
And it's certainly better than most areas in DS3 too.

So it's not considered niche anymore?

I would put it at MGS level. Which is what I consider to be a level lower than Call of Duty level. It's the level that any person who has a gaming hobby knows of the game but there is still a barrier for the general populace. MGS's is its convoluted story while Dark Souls is its setting and difficulty.

652k in 5 days on PC alone is huge. Lets hope some other japanese pubs will take notice about what happens when you don't delay your PC version.

I don't get it. Went to youtube to see what the area looks like and it's super bland :/

3 games of the same setting and art direction can do that. Hopefully they take the series in another direction. Maybe self publish to break away from the current setting of DaS.

Nintendo hasn't given a shit about Metroid since Super flopped in Japan, and has been mis-managed even before that.

I wouldn't agree with that. If Nintendo didn't care about the franchise at all, we wouldn't have gotten three Prime games, Fusion, and Zero Mission. Heck, as disappointing as Other M is, even that game shows that they were at least trying.

I'd say Nintendo hasn't cared about the series since Other M flopped but it's clear they had interest in growing it during the first decade of the 2000's.

To be blunt I think all three dlc areas in DS2 are better than any individual DS3 level.
I havent finished DS3 yet, but from what I've seen the areas are pretty solid/good but look a bit familiar. My biggest gripe is the lack of interactivity/puzzles that all of the DS2 dlc had. Every map had different layers(buttons, moving walls/platforms, ghost statues, bombs, melting ice etc).

I'd pretty annoyed if From Software took the fan criticism of DS2 too harshly that they reverted to DS1 completely and ignored everythig good about the second game.

I am still very early in the game, but if this level and boss design holds up, and it doesn't have Demon Ruins or Crystal Caves levels or Bed of Chaos bosses later on it just might end up being my favorite in the series. Which would make it one of the best games ever by default.

Deserves success.

I'll stake my claim right here that I always thought it was the best Souls game. And I have hundreds of frustrated posts in "DS2 sucks" threads to prove it :p

It's my least favorite Souls game but I still really enjoyed it. I've only played SotFS, not the original version.

In 9 million years when we get another Armored Core I wonder if we'll still need to drag them kicking and screaming into making PC versions

You're a better man than I, I'll say that.

After beating DS3 2.5 times now I still like DS2 better, especially scholar. Scholar is the type of game I could pick and play a few hours every day for 2 years and never bored of it. The compartmentalized nature of the level design, it's great build variety, and almost endless NG+ variances make it a game of almost infinite replay value. Meanwhile, I'm basically already tired of DS3. Build variance is way down, the one mechanic they added from DS2 fell flat on its face, bosses despite them burning a lot of time and money on fx are all mostly flash in the pan, truckloads of rehashed content, etc.

I can't see myself putting anywhere near the amount of time I put into DS2 that I did this game.

It's kind of sad DS3 peaked design wise in the second level (not tutorial) of the game. After playing that level I was said to myself, "holy shit if the rest of the game is like this I can't even imagine what the last level is going to look like"...and it ended up being some kind of misguided rehash from a previous game. meh/10

Yep Yep Yep. (well, outside of reindeer hell of course)

Yeah, my main issue with DS3 is exactly that.

Sunken city and other DLC are good then you play 'that level' in DS3, which is the best area since Tower of latria 3-1, and realize how superior is the enemy and level design in DS3.

Well deserved, DS3 is the best souls game.

It's going to be fascinating to watch Dark Souls II slowly grow in reputation over time.

Well, it'll always be known as the weakest Souls game but hopefully people will still recognize how great it is when not compared to the other games. I loved it the first time I played it and still love it.

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about,
no, that level was much better the first time around in Demon's.

If you're talking about the other level everyone is raving about,
it was better when it was called Eleum Loyce and didn't have a 1:1 copy of the back half of anor londo literally copy/pasted on top of it to get fanboys' dicks hard.

No, is much better layered in DS3 and more interesting and varied.

Elem Loyce was a poor man's 1-1, with stupid backtracking. Tbh that puts it over most DS2 but not over most DS3 levels.

I doubt this will happen. The user's who like it always liked it, I don't think people who used to dislike it are now changing their minds.

At the very least they will have to start to complain about new things, because most of the common complaints people have about 2 get even worse in 3 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
