Nintendo's 2015 Fiscal Year Earnings Release/News Conference

Okay, I actually do think it makes sense to hold off the release if the product isn't ready considering how murderously horrible the Wii U's launch was. But who thought that no E3 was a good idea? Are they going to show off the console and then release it a month later?

I wasn't wholly confident in NX coming by the end of the year (and personally, I'm a little relieved it isn't), but that was on the assumption Zelda would hold the fort for at least the Wii U this holiday. It's no big hit to the NX if it releases on Wii U first, as people who already plan to skip over the Wii U entirely aren't exactly waffling.

Holding back the NX from an E3 where it was sure to dominate the press cycle, however, seems at odds with a planned release in March 2017. That only makes sense in a world where development kits were sent out to partners so late that at this year's E3 they have nothing to show. Don't tell me they plan to use all their floor space and the conference presentation just for Sun/Moon and Zelda Wii U? With the NX looming, I can't see a late-year injection into the current platforms' libraries like we saw in 2014. Surely they don't mean we won't hear about the concept of the system at all, and it's merely not ready to play or demonstrate on the floor?

To me it seems Nintendo is taking a total reboot for their next system.
They want to be ready when they are ready. Wii U was such a rushed product.

I'm disappointed too by 2017 (NX and Zelda), but it will probably be for the better.

Yeah it really looks like they're trying to avoid another wii u screw up by any means necessary. Hope it pays off in the end.

Just had a thought.

This conference was in Japan and we were always expecting a later launch there.

Could March simply be the Japan launch with other regions launching sooner?

Nintendo CEO: NX won't simply replace 3DS and WiiU"

No NX at E3 ? What the hell are you thinking Nintendo ?

Don't you remember that nobody understood your Wii U presentation and now, you don't even show up with your new hardware at the most important gaming show of the year, seriously ?

How do you make this connection lmfao? What does one have to do with the other? Simmer down.

Oh and Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem are coming to mobile.

Maturity, bitches.
Hmmm... Animal Crossing for mobile. Don't know what to think about that.

Hopefully it's an idol based card collecting game.

So, sounds like they are basically confirming that it will replace both. At least there's something here that validates all that speculation.

Yep. As I've been saying all along, Spring or Summer 2017 is basically the end of the period when it would be smart for Nintendo to launch a new console. Any later than that, and they would start bumping into the first hints of news about the PS5 and Xbox 4, and the "wait and see" impulse would kick in for people. Their only other alternative would be to hold off until nearer the launch of those consoles, which they really can't afford to do. So, this is right in line with what they should do.

This has been bizarre so far, but could it possibly be a sign of a different Nintendo?

We're all reacting in shock and awe, but could they just be being... honest?

Normally we're all hyped and then a direct or E3 comes along and we're crushed, this could be the start of a new way of operating for Nintendo, honesty and clarity.

I suspect PS4K might have a hand in pushing NX back. Nintendo might be planning to beef it up a bit.
Or maybe they're just doing what they want to do. They know that someone that buys their system isn't wanting to buy a mere PS4er from them, they want something unique. Adenines and markets overlap, but this is something different they are going for it would seem.
