Great choices in my opinion.

Animal Crossing is a really logical fit and great for casual audiences, while Fire Emblem is an ideal midcore IP.

Nintendo’s Next Mobile Apps: Building on the positive consumer reaction to Miitomo, Nintendo announced that its next two mobile apps would be based on the familiar and beloved Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing franchises. Nintendo plans to release both of these applications this autumn. As for the former app, while making it more accessible in comparison to the Fire Emblem games for Nintendo’s dedicated gaming systems, Nintendo aims to offer the great value of a role-playing strategy game. Nintendo will design the latter game so that it will be connected with the world of Animal Crossing for dedicated gaming systems. By playing both Animal Crossing games, users will find increased enjoyment. Both of these are pure game applications. Compared to Miitomo, they have more prominent game elements, and the game content will tie closely into Nintendo’s dedicated games business. Nintendo will provide more details about these applications closer to their launch period, and aims to have multiple types of apps that appeal to different audiences and different groups of players.

Interesting choices that make sense. Fire Emblem is on the rise & Animal Crossing is pretty big right now. Both franchises have huge handheld followings that may lend themselves well to mobile games.

Yeah, makes sense. Wonder what kind of games they're going to be.

We better still be getting mainline Animal Crossings though Nintendo.

That's actually pretty cool. It means they can also provide suitable control options for those games, and it seems like the games will actually have some meat to them.

Ok this is some actually pretty cool / good news out of the Nintendo news for today. I'm interested in playing both on Mobile if they are quality products

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
Obviously neither will be comparable to the main series, it's going to be interesting to see how they handle these.

Animal Crossing mobile will be like Miitomo, but instead of having real friends. I get to ask questions to my virtual animal friends!

Fire Emblem would do very well on mobile platforms. I would love it if the game was a remake of one of the Super Famicom games. They are considered to be some of the best games in the series.

Wow this is amazing.

I'm curious how fully fledged this is Animal Crossing will be. Will it give the 3DS version a run for its money? Is it more Happy Home Designer?

Free, App priced, 3DS equivalent?

Bell micro transactions!?

E3 WHERE ARE YOU!!

I have a feeling that Fe will use the card game assets.

Reuse of the original game art (as with Awakening) mixed in there as well might also be possible. Depending on the style of presentation they go for, a lot of recycling of the 3DS games' models could happen as well.

Releasing around autumn by the way:

次は日本語で。全て任天堂社長@会見より。NXは来年3月発売。E3では展示なし。ゼルダ新作にフォーカス。スマホアプリ、次はファイヤーエンブレムとどうぶつの森。秋ごろ。

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Animal Crossing on mobile will be crazy successful if they play their cards right.

Hopefully they relegate that face-petting shit to mobile apps while the NX handheld gets the classic strategy game.

If anything, it should be the other way around, considering the demographics of each platform. But ideally neither would have to go without such core thematic elements.

Fine with me, but Nintendo, if this means no more / fewer Fire Emblem games for handheld/console, then no, bad Nintendo.

That will not happen, Nintendo was clear from day one that these mobile projects are designed as 'tasters' for a casual audience that are supposed to generate interest in the main series on Nintendo's own hardware. They are not replacing the traditional games, they are more like companion apps.
