Battlefield 1 Reveal Trailer, PC/PS4/XB1, Oct 21st [Up2: Screens, Info, Open Beta]

And people said I was in the minority for being sick of futuristic warfare.

Because likes on a youtube trailer indicate interest in the game amirite?

It's so low because you have to buy the $80 version of the game to get CoD4. The setting has nothing to do with it.

There is a very real, very clear difference in the war the two wars were fought that can't be ignored.

I mean.. the Holocaust took place in WWII. What happened in WWI that made the events of WWII pale in comparison so much that there's a clear difference in making video games that take place in either war? Genuinely curious.

Speaking of women, I wonder if we'll be able to play as women for multiplayer? Almost every other AAA shooter allows it and I wonder if BF1 will follow suit? Going around the battlefield on horseback shooting fools as a badass women would be lit.

if the multiplayer are still set during the WW1, it will be very unlikely

The game looks great but something about a dubstep rendition of a White Stripes song and the brutal clusterfuck that is the first World War seems off to me.

Are there really this many people that have only played Battlefront and not older Battlefield games?

The only thing Battlefront and Battlefield have in common is that you shoot stuff.

Well, the Executive Producer did say that they made it easier to pull off those "Only in Battlefield moments." So I guess a wait and see approach would be appropriate, though I would have to imagine that they'd realize that they would piss off a lot of hardcore Battlefield fans if they touch vehicles too much.

WW1 was the gritiest, dirtiest, most depressing war.

It was static, grim and ugly

This doesn't look like WW1 at all

Still looks great though, will buy 9 months down the road once Dice fixes the game

I love the trailer except the god awful dubstep music. It needs to die now. They should have chosen something that matches the era.

I agree with you about the varied landscapes, but I didn't notice any significant difference in colour compared to other titles. It's still so muted. They still use that colour grading too, which might actually be the real problem I have with it.

I see what you mean about the muted colors still being there in the trailer.

However, I still stand by my point that this is the most colorful and varied BF title I've seen thus far. Lots of red popping out (horse rider, planes).

Great and all, but trailer itself is pretty generic. Doesn't evoke World War I at all. The song doesn't fit.

Why no tasteful, slow-paced trailer but some generic shootfest? Somewhere, Siegfried Sassoon is rolling in his grave.

And I will riot if there is no map in Flanders Fields.

To be fair. I'm pretty sure 90% of the reason COD is being dislike it's because it's COD.(and the trailer has a horrible cover).
Its just the popular thing to hate and now people have decided it will be fun to see how many dislikes they can get.

I think it will get down to sales to define just how sick people are of the futuristic setting

The way the two wars were fought.

Trench warfare is the single most brutal, disturbing, horrifying form of warfare ever created. And it was fought over nothing. No grand effort to drive back the fascists, no stalwart defense of the motherland, no liberating labor camps or cities from the yolk of oppression.

Just the worlds bloodiest family squabble over nothing. Quite literally nothing.

Not gonna lie, after so many futuristic themed shooters, ww1 feels fresh. The trailer didn't really capture ww1 right to me tho, and the music sure isn't helping.

Haven't touched anything dice since BF3, but depending on how exciting this is I may jump back in.

GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY!

It's world war 1 and it looks so freaking good!!

Oh my god you guys. They actually did it!

Also, correct me if Im wrong, but are map packs going to be free? I see you get early access to maps, but I am really praying they give maps for free

I don't believe the person in the image is Arab. It seems likely that, that person is T.E. Lawrence, or Lawrence of Arabia. He was quite active in the Arab revolt and very influential. He used a lot of guerilla warfare tactics the proved to be key to taking down the Ottomon's, who were allied with Germany at the time.

That guy went through some shit, too. At one point he was captured and sodomized a by some Turkish leader. He ended up with tons of shrapnel wounds over the course of his stay. He was a true bad ass.

Pretty sure that's a female...

Which game do you think will sell more?

I'm out for this one, WW1 has 0 interest from me.

Between no Extinction mode for CoD (it's more zombies), and this, I might just play more Destiny this fall.

And people said I was in the minority for being sick of futuristic warfare.

To be fair, that's still 3 times as many likes as BF1 has right now, and the people who actually watched the trailer fully eclipse the number of people who were so disgusted they disliked, let alone the people who felt they had to like.

So the sales generally stay the same.

This looks awesome, a great hype trailer. I haven't bought Battlefield or COD in years, but might be willing to give this a shot.

that sounds like instead of visiting the fields of Verdun they just saw the latest Michael Bay movies in preparation of this game...

Perhaps I'm just not yet accustomed to living in what I like to call the Age of the Offended, but I wasn't nearly as disgusted as some of you guys were. To me it just seemed like the developers had played the game internally and were excited to share some of their "war stories" that had emerged from those sessions. We've all played games based on real-world conflicts in which we have awesome moments and talk to our friends about how we got an awesome headshot, or blew some tank to smithereens, or came up behind some guy and jammed a knife in his back. It isn't glorifying war, it's just discussing exciting things that happened while playing what is merely a video game.

You're comparing a genocide to infantry warfare. Infantry warfare in WW1 was by far more brutal, disgusting and terrible than WWII.

Gotta have that dubstep and chaotic action.

Name is kind of odd. Prefer the year convention, so Battlefield 1917 or something along those lines would have been better.

Likely the next one will be WW2

The tone of that trailer, the music rendition and the setting oh how I view WW1 are on polar opposites. Like WW2 is a setting that usually has an air of respect levied to it. Maybe they were just following hollywoods queue there. But to go all out "war f-yea!" For WW1 is bizarre to me.

It doesn't bother me in a COD or a fake conflict. But when you do this for a real event it bugs me

Seriously. At least the Medal of Honor was inspired by Saving Private Ryan and such

This, for the first big budget WW game ever?

I'm hoping the campaign is a bit more mature

The fact that WW1 was completely unnecessary and even the reasoning behind it being completely ludicrous makes it even worse. It was basically a time when people were still ready to go to war over mundane stuff but this time they had some technology.

Atleast WW2 had a clearer divide of good and bad and a fairly strong reasoning behind its causation.
