Battlefield 1 Reveal Trailer, PC/PS4/XB1, Oct 21st [Up2: Screens, Info, Open Beta]

It wasn't that there was no gameplay, it was the way they revealed it. Hyping up something for a week, going through a 6 hour retrospective livestream and having a 45 minute long conference just for a one minute trailer is not a good way to reveal a game. They should have just did what Bethesda did with FO4 and just put out the debut trailer and a press release saying that gameplay will be at E3 without any of the extra fluff.

ah they didn't show any gameplay on the livestream? Sorry if I missed that, I just saw the announcement yesterday and the trailer today...if that's the case I understand that argument.

I thought this would be an amazing thing to do, take a AAA game with a AAA budget and actually explore some of the more somber, sobering tones and idioms that we associate with war and really use the graphical and FPS fidelity we have in modern gaming to showcase the utter brutality and pointless violence that WWI was.

I think it's such a tremendously wasted use of the setting.

And how many copies would that game sell?

DICE isn't making a documentary. It's mass market entertainment and they want it to appeal to as many people as possible, because otherwise they'd be throwing millions of dollars out of their windows.

If you look closely they've actually avoided using the terms "World War I" and "The Great War" in all of the marketing materials, instead using phrases like "the dawn of all-out war". Calling the game "Battlefield: The Great War" immediately brings to mind stodgy History Channel documentaries of jittery monochrome film footage and solemn memorial services and would turn off a lot of people.

For the product they're selling, they've done a lot of clever things to set the tone right from the get-go.

Mauer pistol and single shot rifles is all I ever wanted! This is not only the return for WW online combat for me, but the return online combat - period.

So a Reddit rumor went up a while ago that nailed everything that's been revealed so far, and also listed multiplayer modes and dynamic weather: https://www.reddit.com/r/Battlefiel...efield_2016_detailed_from_my_source_ww1_game/

There's a pigeon related item in the Collector's Edition and the Last Squad Standing mode fits with Peter Moore's mandate that all their MP games have an eSports mode.

It also makes sense that they'd try to take along at least something from Hardline's new modes.

It also hedged its bets with the title, and doesn't mention things like vehicles being class specific or a bigger focus on melee combat.

Dub step seven Nation Army... Fucking really? I expect the settings to be nothing more than window Dressing for aggressive dlc and microtransaction hell.

Maybe the only way for the AAA industry to replicate the feeling of being a worthless Piece of meat for the warmachine is to turn players into cows ready to be milked for the last Drop.

Or maybe I'm just drunk and this Trailer looks like the most tired shit I've seen in a while despite the novel setting.

Jeez. I hope I never become as pessimistic as you.

If this is anywhere near gameplay, we're in for a treat.

Might make the more realistically-styled violence a bit grim, though.

I totally believe that's completely in-game. Back when Battlefront was first shown off, I knew almost for a fact that the game would get massive downgrades and yet it didn't.

In DICE I believe.

For info, I managed to confirm if you order Battlefield 1 Early Enlister Deluxe Edition on Xbox One and subscribe to EA Access, it will playable on 13th October. If ordered from UK store it will unlock at midnight. I assume it is the same on PC, but just an assumption.

That Battlefront trailer was pretty representative of how the game looked. Dice is the last company I doubt when it comes to graphics.

I never said anything about graphics so I don't know what you're talking about. I'm talking about making a "cinematic" trailer using animations that don't exist in-game and that aren't representative at all of actual gameplay. This has nothing to do with graphics.

Ah, OK. They weren't even answering obviously pre-planned questions. Whilst the trailer was cool the reveal itself was just as bad, or even worse than Pele at E3.

So apparently now you can't just change from a tank or plane into another or spawn as an infantry and then get into one.

From 2:01. that would be quite the change.
Welp. If true this game can get wrecked.

Sounds like you describe it and that's super duper shitty!

I understand they want to probably cut down on who just jumps in vehicles to use them as transportation but perhaps they should have done something smarter like take a look at the fucking spawn system for changes first and streamline it to allow players to get back into the action faster.

I can't believe people are hyped by this trailer. It's another fake trailer like battlefront that doesn't show off any actual gameplay and instead makes a cool cinematic montage in engine but with loads of extra animations that obviously don't exist in the game.

When they make a trailer like this one, that uses actual gameplay maybe then I can get a more accurate idea of what this game will really be like.

Speaking for myself, I thought the trailer was poorly put together, but I'm excited by the confirmation that the game won't be some sort of alternate history/steampunk fantasy but instead present the Great War as an historical matter of fact (though the gameplay will likely, perhaps necessarily, diverge from actual history).

The "mace" is a grenade I think.

No, it is indeed a melee club.

For you.
Basically now you have dedicated classes for tanks and planes alongside the infantry classes, and if you choose a tank you can't change that until you die.
Good change imo. Sick of having almost everyone on the team rushing for the vwhicles as quickly as they can, and its always the dumb ones that get the planes, give it a spin or two, make no kills then destroyed the plane in a accident.

Name is bad as it limits them if they want to the Boer War, American Civil War, Western Battlefield, Napoleonic Wars etc or something even older those periods.

It will look like the trailers. No way dice would call out COD on graphics if they were confident thay they could not deliver.

Then yeah, that I understand. My post was about how often I see hate on a reveal trailer for "not showing enough gameplay" and I don't get it. Gameplay is important yes, but for something like Battlefront, come on, the gameplay wont' be anything insanely new. I prefer these cinematic reveal trailers, especially when jumping to a new aesthetic and time period like this.

There are pros and cons. I think I am okay with being a tank or plane class on one condition: We still have the ability to bail on the vehicle if we are going to die, but we then are very limited in our weapons. A pilot isn't going to be carrying much stuff, maybe a pistol. But I would like to be able to get out if I absolutely need to, even with some restrictions.

But I don't want some idiot sniper stealing a biplane to get on top of a tall building and then ditch the plane.

This is what makes me believe. Battlefront totally looked like some CGI bullshot when revealed and yet it looks exactly the same on PC.

Jesus...I think this problem is more on you than the game industry. Sounds like you are burnt out on games.

The only thing I want out of this game is a decent rendition of the Battlefield theme.

Not some garbled piece of noise that has gone through the eurotrash synthesizer.

I like the idea of a Pilot class.

It would also be cool if weren't stuck in a vehicle, but were limited to just a pistol on the ground if you manage to leave your plane alive.

It's kind of great. Fuck those recons that use jets just for texi to get to the edge of the map.

yeah also even though I do this to other people, it's super lame when an engineer pulls out his RPG only to have the tank driver instantly teleport outside the tank, gun him down and then jump back in. one of the worst "animations" or lack thereof in the entire series.

Holy fucking shit. That looks incredible. Best looking game ever made. Wowow

Amazing editing in the trailer too. Best trailer ever?

no, that is a mace. Melee weapons were VERY popular during WW1. Just look up stormtroopers or Arditi.

Not having easily portable automatic weapons (submachine guns became available only towards the end of the war and machine guns weighted 20kg+ and needed water for cooling them down) and fighting in close quarters in trenches makes having a melee weapon sensible. Bayonet dudes and if you lose it take your mace out. Ain't nobody going to start reloading a bolt lock rifle in a trench.
