Kotaku - No Man's Sky delayed

Again:

Safe assumption #1. They want to announce the delay with a new date.

Safe assumption #2. They do not have a new date yet.

And I'll point out then they need to bite the bullet and just say so then. The longer they wait it won't just be us who made plans who will be upset (and I will be far more upset if they announce last minute than if they don't have a date) but people who they let excitement get high the sooner the old date gets closer. Meaning they will have a lot more disappointment to come down from. If you know you have to disappoint people it is a bad move to let them get their expectations up. The longer they wait the more people will expect it actually is coming out then.

Besides, even if they have a date, are you really going to trust it seeing how things have been going (they let us think it was last year until almost the end and kept acting like they'd soon have an announcement as to when). So a date means nothing at this point. I suspected it might be delayed when I made my plans. I just figured they would have the decency to tell us if that happened and not wait until it gets close (which according to Jason they knew weeks ago). It's already pushing it close and I'm worried they are waiting for e3 to say something.

I hope it's a successful game honestly.

It just looks like it'll get old quickly.

Tech-wise they're incredibly talented, so I hope they succeed even if this isn't the best use of their tech. They really should've just released the thing 6-12 months ago and built on it from there.

One thing I found out from this, I checked the Amazon release date today and noticed they are releasing a custom facia for the PS4. Looks like it might go well with my 20th Anniversary model

They should have been selling these Game/Faceplate bundles all gen...

Oh wait, this is just the faceplate? Missed opportunity...

Yes, think the online more like something like Dark Souls. But instead of players leaving messages behind they name their discoveries and in ultra rare occasions you could even meet another player.

Wikipedia:
Players participate in a shared universe, with the ability to exchange planet coordinates with friends, though the game will also be fully playable offline

Huh...well what do you know. That makes this even more impressive.....

man what could have happened that they delay a game that is damn near on shelves?

I would usually say Certification for a game like this, especially with the strong multi-player element.

Certification doesn't go well you are basically fucked. It's usually a pretty small window for final submission to the platform holders. Most companies do pre-certification and such through testing companies but it's hard to keep up with what the PHs will throw at you, especially with constantly evolving SDKs, tools, firmware, etc.

However, in this case that seems weird since they only have one platform to worry about and I expect Sony would usually waive anything that wasn't game-breaking for any game they have pushed as hard as this one.

Hopefully, we get a date or some word soon as I was looking forward to this one!

Unless Sony learned something from the fiasco that was the DriveClub launch.

Wonder how they save all the info, since everything is generated as you visits places, the game needs to remember what it generated. And if you visit hundreds of planets...thats a lot of stuff to remember...

Damn this game is intruiging....

It's all math, so it's not actually saved but regenerated.

I hope the game is delayed, just to redeem Jason.

Ha. I have no problem with Jason and I will say I didn't know it was him who wrote it and I was dismayed when I learned it was cause that meant that I couldn't just write it off as a silly rumor. That there was some weight to it.

But I still want him to be wrong :p. And before people gripe they should make the game good rather than not delay, we're talking hypotheticals so when I say I want him to be wrong I want the game to be fine and ready to be released. I have no issue with them taking time to fix something if there is a problem that would be bad on the game. My only qualm is that I just want them to tell us already as launch date is soon if that is the case.

The fact that no one from Sony or Hello Games has commented on a story this big a mere month from launch is ridiculous.

Way to absolutely drop the ball PR.

So still no confirmation this is actually delayed?

No, and there will not be until next week unless HG/Sony decide to calm the internet down and just reveal it this weekend.

Let me clear something up for everyone still freaking out and not understanding this delay and where this marketing material is coming from and why its confirmation its delayed.

Gamestop gets marketing kits every few weeks occasionally they'll produce a marketing kit like the one right now where a poster has a date on it but they have confirmation the date will be changed after the posters have already been made so stores are told to cover up the said date. These marking materials go up in stores Sunday night after stores close, because of this however someone who got their marketing kit noticed that NMS had clearly been delayed if they were being told to cover up the June release date and posted it to the internet.

That is why every place that carries the game has not updated the release date, no one is suppose to know about this until next week. Likely on Monday Gamestop's in store release database will be updated to whatever month HG/Sony think they'll have it out (or just the start of the quarter they think it'll be out) and likely it'll be changed online everywhere else once Sony/HG confirm the delay on Monday.

I'm sure some would like to ask: "Well why doesn't Sony/HG just tell us if we already know?" Thats because they have a plan to reveal the delay and why on a certain date they could change this but the actual statement may not be ready or they may not want to actually reveal it before they originally intended, games get leaked all of the time and companies generally don't confirm their existence until they are ready for it its the same thing here.

I'm also sure some would like to say: "This doesn't prove anything, you HAVE to wait for official confirmation from Sony/HG!" This I find funny because if you are someone who knows about these kind of things (I worked as an ASM at Gamestop for nearly a decade and have seen numerous delays in the exact same way as NMS is being delayed here it generally just doesn't get the internet to freak out like this) you already understand the games delayed and they just haven't announced it as of yet. As I mentioned above games get revealed early all of the time do we wait for confirmation by those companies before we start ogling all of the leaks? No, we get hyped as fuck.

I get that this is disappointing to a lot of fans and they just don't want to believe it but the posts on places like Gamefaqs and Reddit just make me shake my head in disbelief, people are paranoid as shit because of fake leaks and stuff that even when clear evidence is staring at them in the face they still don't believe it, I mean I get that we've sure as hell had a lot of false leaks this year but when major gaming sites are telling you its delayed and there is evidence to back it up its okay to believe that.

If you want more proof that there is a delay then what I already said then look no further at HG/Sony who have been completely silent about this as has the NMS staff, and they won't say a thing about it until they are ready to confirm its been delayed. They can very well announce it any time now and just get the worst over with but they likely will wait until they originally planned to confirm it next week.

Also just for my own peace of mind: The only way that this is false and they game is not delayed is because of a miscommunication that ended up being told to Gamestop and this would be confirmed by Gamestop likely over the weekend with information for stores to update the date or just remove the coming soon replacement sticker. However, if that was the case Sony and HG would have already denied it being delayed the single fact that they have been radio silent about the whole thing is proof in it of itself.

Poppycock!

I think you're right :(

Still no change in dates from GameStop webpage or Soundtrack's site.

So people why don't chill and stop shooting the messenger and focus the "rage" and "hopelessness" to Sony and Hello Games. And if I may I would take out of the mix sony too. Is pretty messed up that at this point non of the people at Hello Games are making an statement.
Why can't we just not be mad about a video game release date, and start acting like proper adults instead? I really want to play No Man's Sky too, but being angry at the devs for potentially delaying it is stupid and helps no one.

With a game so heavily reliant on proc-gen?, is there such a thing as a minor bug?, I can imagine it's like a tower of cards, pull one card and the lot falls down.

Yeah maybe it's something terribly wrong with their overall algorithm. If that's the case, we're in trouble...

Still no change to the Steam date. Hopefully the delay is PlayStation only.

Same thing on the PS-Store though...

You're assuming everyone is angry cause of the delay. And not because of how they are handling it (waiting til the last minute to tell us). I have no problem with them delaying the game if need be (I will be disappointed but I realize they need to make it work). I have a problem if they wait until last minute to tell us when they have to at least know by now and according to Jason have known for weeks. Hopefully poster I replied a thank you to is right and they were planning on at least telling us next week (well I'd rather everyone be wrong that there is an issue that is making it delayed but it's not looking like that is so ;) ). I still think that's pushing it but at least they're not waiting until right before (pretty close though).

This is a very reasonable standpoint and something to this effect is probably what's happening, so I hope more people read this post.

The chances of the game being pushed earlier, the delay being a mistake or just being delayed for one system are extremely small IMO. I'm pretty sure it's not the first game being delayed merely a month before the original release date, there's really no reason for the drama (well, maybe for a dose of frustration, sure). I was very pumped for the June release, and it sucks, but I'll live. There's always the possibility that a delay will make the game more polished and feature complete, so that's also a plus.

Scheduling a week's vacation for a video game. A day perhaps, but a week? That is absurd.

I was going into November with 2 weeks vacation and I get time off for Holidays, so I took a week off to play WoW Lich King. As far as normal situations maybe a day or two.

wtf is up with people..?

this is seriously disturbing..

What the hell is wrong with people, it's a VIDEOGAME FFS.

Mental illness is a real thing. Also, that kind of absurd behavior is nowhere close to being the sole domain of video games. Anything someone projects a sense of belonging or-- worse-- ownership onto can quickly turn into garbage like that tweet. See: sports fans, music fans, [the thing you like here] fans, etc..

It's all math, so it's not actually saved but regenerated.

I don't presume to know how this game works but I imaging the game would have to save a decent amount of information to regenerate places you've been. I mean, say you've played 30 hours and you go back to some of the first places you visited or mined or whatever... would the game "remember" that mined a super deep hole into a cave? Or would the whole planet regenerate?

If everything you've done is saved, that's going to be a lot of data.

Its true. The only thing that is odd it is supposed to be released in like 3 weeks..

I wonder what the smallest amount of time before a release a game has been officially delayed.

We've had games delayed on their release day, or even after it. Games have been released, then pulled from shelves and re-released months later.

This would be a fairly late delay, but nothing too uncommon or unprecedented.

No. The planet would appear as if you'd never been there, unless you make significant changes (like wiping out a species, or mining out a resource).

Any of these huge changes would only be "saved" in the broadest of strokes, and at an extremely minimal data cost.
