Persona 5 Won't Be Out In North America Until February 2017

I guess that means Dark Souls III can safely hold onto GotY status.

But really, this sucks. What a far cry from the confirmation that it would be out everywhere in 2015. Such is life though.

Modern Persona games and the time gap between Japanese & US release:
Persona 3 - 1 year, 1 month
Persona 3:FES - 1 year
Persona 3P - 8 months
Persona 4 - 5 months
Persona 4G - 5 months
Persona 5 - 5 months

Looks rather consistent. No one who has been paying attention should be particularly shocked by P5's US release date. The idea that it would get a simultaneous worldwide release was a pipe dream; especially seeing as how FFXV comes out the same month. Not to mention, Atlus USA already has Tokyo Mirage Sessions & SMT4-2 coming out this year and a Persona 5 release would cannibalize sales of those games.

Hey everyone, should I get the Premium Edition for the soundtrack and artbook or just get it digitally? I'm so salty I can't just get the normal boxart.

I expected it to be 2017 the earliest, so I'm pleasantly surprised!

What I'm NOT that happy about is its February 14th release date. I planned on buying Persona 5 and sinking an entire day into it. But... they picked Valentine's Day.... The ONE day where I'm going to have all day long plans. Because you know, it's Valentine's Day!! Who doesn't have plans on Valentine's Day?!

God dammit.

Yeah, but there are significant differing factors as meaningful variables this time:

1. To my knowledge, none of those Persona games had ever been delayed in Japan, with the exception of Persona 5.

2. Persona has never been as anticipated and known about as it has now with the latest entry, particularly concerning Western media and press.

I don't think expecting a closer release to the Japanese version was unfounded; I think a lot of the other projects Atlus USA needed to localize also played a factor.

So if I still don't own a PS4 is there any reason I should buy one just for this game? Do we expect the PS3 version to be inferior?

Ugh, the wait for this game is so goddamn stupid. It's going to be nigh-impossible to avoid spoilers for this game for that long.

There's a joke about anime fans and prom nights somewhere in there.

To be fair, all they really did was swap out the 5-CD Set for a School Bag, Morgana Plush, and Steelbook.

As long as the CD Set becomes available elsewhere, I'd say that the Western version is the better LE, personally.

You know, I did say this before with the news having me shook:
This CE is so much cooler than the one we've seen for NA. Still wondering whether or not I should keep my 20th Anniversary edition pre-order.

But I think I tend to agree. That 5-CD set looks freaking great, though. Hopefully it does end up being available separately and I'll order it then. Other than that, we get that cool bag.

The PS3 version won't get a Premium Edition, but otherwise, it'll probably be the same game with a lower resolution and/or framerate.

I was kind of hoping the box art eventually matches the Japanese LE's since the art isn't final. Steelbooks are typically my favorite thing but the cover art they picked isn't nearly as rad as the regular box art either, so I hope that one changes too. (I guess that's because most times marketing picks the more generic cover for the game and lets the artsy stuff grace the LE. Feels like the reverse here.)

We won't know until closer to release, of course, but the game was originally announced as a PS3 exclusive and was probably developed with it in mind first (I do not know this for fact, but it seems a safe assumption to make), so I really don't think there will be a huge difference outside a resolution bump. But we can't know, obviously, for sure until both are out in Japan.

I looked up the special edition and I'd probably get it (making it my first special edition), but it comes in a Steelbook which is an instant "No way" from me. Want my game cases to be uniform and the fact that I'm cursed with a Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix art book as a case will never not haunt me.

Still doesn't kill my excitement for Persona 5!!!

Technically I'm single and Valentine's Day is still always a hoot! You don't need to be in a committed relationship to have some fun with someone on Valentine's Day.

But I guess you're right that some people aren't doing anything for that day and that makes me so sad :(

the audience for this game
I'm an audience for this game though! D:

Wait, theres no PS4 without the steelbook?!

I...I like steelbooks but the regular boxart seems much better.

Not sure if I actually want to not get it day one and wait for ordinary box art now. I need to see better pics of steelbook.

Also PS3 version is $50 dollars! PS4 owners get cheated!

Not sure if CE is worth $30 or not especially when I'm poor. Main thing for me is artbook but $30.

They haven't shown the actual steelbook art yet.

And PS4 owners are paying more (and by "more" I mean "regular retail price") for the better version :v

Don't see how PS4 would be much better tho. It always feel sleezy when different versions of stuff cost different. (Looking at you iOS/PC to console ports)

The only thing better about the PS4 version, is the headphone jack in the controller. :p

When will they show the steel book I wonder. Hopefully its soon, but probably not or else they'd have shown it today.

Plus, I assume that the P5 CD will have the same as the P5 CD of the 5 CD pack. As for the other 4 CDs, they're filled with music I've been listening to for the last 8 years or so. I'm good with the CE we got (as long as we still get the DLC for free).

I hate to say this, but even if Atlus doesn't sell it separately - which is highly unlikely - and scalpers run out of the Physical CD Set online, it will still be available digitally through other means; it's just how the internet works.

Here's hoping that Atlus will decide to sell a digital version on iTunes, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Isn't it just music from the games? In that case, everything from the first four discs is already available elsewhere. The point is to have the physical discs, not the music itself.

P4G came out 5 months later in US and 8 months in EU. It's near 5 months for US so I'll double down on a May release for EU.

Hell, let's have some fun, I'll say Persona 5 will come out in UK on 19/05/17. Mainline Europe will be a few days earlier since it has a different release

People were expecting P5 outside of Japan this year? Ha ha, saw this happening easily.
I'm fine with it either way, more hyped for FFXV and leaves me more time for it.

Wow we really got screwed over compared to the Japanese collector's edition. I wonder if some of this has to do with Japanese boogeyman fears of reverse importation.
still mad about it not coming out in 2015 like Atlus PR constantly repeated.

PR is almost always full of shit.
