Persona 5 Won't Be Out In North America Until February 2017

I'm sure this delay would be very good for them financially at least. I imagine releasing right around FFXV would have hurt it quite a bit.

Dual audio shouldn't be an issue unless the disc is already full. I don't see Persona 5 filling a full BD.

Preordered at Amazon. Still hoping I can preorder at Best Buy for reward points.

How to I cancel from GameStop? They don't make it obvious. Do you I have to go to the store (please no).

Did you opt for in-store pick up? If so, I think you just aren't charged unless you go to the store to actually pick up the game, at least based on the language on in-store pick up of pre-orders.

Does anyone know if the japanese version will have an English text option? I'd love to play through with Japanese audio (and play this year) but idk how viable it'd be to play with all the menus and subtitles in Japanese. This isn't Dark Souls

Does the Japanese collectors edition included a fill soundtrack? These sampler things are the worst addition to special editions of games.

I entered this thread to comment I'm actually ok with Feb 2017 since 2016 is too rpg packed for me already.

...and now I pre-ordered P5 special edition.

You sneaky people, P5 special edition should be thread worthy!

Can you explain how a summer release is going to cannabalize sales from something like a December release?

For starters, you don't release P5 in December; that's death for anything under GTA/Smash Bros-levels of hype. So the release schedule you'd be looking at is.

6/2016 - Tokyo Mirage Sessions
9/2016 - SMT4-2
11/2016 - Persona 5

That's 3 big RPGs in the same overarching pseudo-series in the space of half a year. So P5 comes out and you just released SMT4-2 and it's about the time that you start doing discounts for TMS. That's oversaturation and you're losing sales to competition of your own creation.

Not necesarily. We don't know all the exact details of what changed during development to warrant the delay. If a lot of sections were reworked, that could have meant a bunch of localization work would have to be redone. If significant new areas or content were added, localization would still have to wait for those areas to be in a complete enough state before they could start. New recording sessions could have had to be rescheduled to do a bunch of retakes and/or record new material, and they may be limited by VA availability for scheduling.

And then there's the various certification and ratings board passes needed for different territories.

You oversimplify what's involved with localization work.
Of course I am oversimplifying localization work. At the same time it seems that Asus Japan does not communicate worth jack with their own division Asus USA which is how we get last second delay notifications. I am speculating that Asus USA aren't really even starting on localization till very close to JPN release here.

Don't forget that it's highly likely that most sales will come from the West (although with away and other territory unknowns who can tell) considering PS4 sales in Japan. So it's not just bad communications and PR policy, it's also a bad business decision.

A company with normal relationship between the division's would have been feeding the script and UI changes at least on weekly basis. The relationship that goes on with Sega JPN and Atlus JPN to their Western fans is plain puzzling any way you look at it.

Put a placeholder pre-order for Amazon just in case GameStop is out of stock when I get a chance to go in-store.

Amazon pre-orders are as simple as clicking "cancel order" on, right?

This last year of announcements and ridiculous delays I hope is a wakeup call. Bethesda should get an industry medal for time restraint shown with FO3.

Also piss off Kotaku with that waifu crap.

I could see the Collector's Edition staying up for a while.

Atlus always overprints their CEs.

There's still some copies of the Persona Q CE going around.

I never believed.

Here's me in 2015 during the 2016 anticipated voting:

1. Persona 5
-won't come out in 2016 in NA, but I want it as high on the list as possible for irony purposes.

and me in the "delayed to Summer 2016" thread back in september 2015

So this basically means Atlus USA knows nooooooooooooooooothing if they are acting as shocked as we.

IE Persona 5 in the USA in 2017 and EU in 2019!
If P5 catches any later Summer date in Japan we can expect early 2017 imo.

Fuck hope. #fuckhope

No clue then. Maybe call their corporate office or their CS line? I'm gonna do that anyway just to make sure I don't get charged for mine.

Yes. Amazon is about the easiest to cancel orders for.

They are all on separate platforms. You have very small number of people buying TMS, a bit larger number of people buying SMT 4-2, and a huge audience for Persona. So no, this is not cannibalizing jack.

£68 to UK from VGP for Take Your Heart edition. Not bad.

IF it does come to the EU/UK, I can easily see them charging £64.99~79.99 anyway. Plus some sort of delay in release time.

Probably not. It looks like for the 20th anniversary they've got a big jewel case with five discs of 'curated' selections from Personas 1-5. Very likely going to be a separate purchase only.

John posted on Twitter about the possibility of dual audio

Dammit. Shouldn't have pre-ordered from GS. I'm more than likely gonna to have to go in-store or call to cancel since I picked pick-up in store.

Yes. Amazon pre-orders usually start processing a day before they ship so keep that in mind. Example, order starts processing on sunday and then ships on monday for a tuesday delivery.

Unfortunately, at this point I think dual audio is a pipe dream with Atlus games.

Oh well, another more reason importing that Japanese 20th anniversary edition is looking better and better.

November is insane just due to the fact you're competing with the COD and other blockbuster crowd. December however does seem viable considering Atlus USA released P4 in December and last year Xenoblade X (a much more niche title) did fairly well in December.

Also TMS isn't going to be getting discounts for a long ass time if ever.

Meh, I am going to import vanilla version used a month or two after release. A bit unhappy with Atlus BS right now.

Audience for Atlus RPGs is going to be more hardcore games and they're more likely to own multiple platforms. And honestly, any JRPG fan worth their salt is most likely going to have a 3DS at this point. SMT4 did well for Atlus so they're going to want to give it time to breathe.

And really, do you guys want Persona 5 sooner so badly that you want a rushed English translation? Atlus USA is a small company and they've got plenty on their roster this year already without trying to hurry and get their biggest RPG to date fully translated 2 months after Japanese release.

Funny to think there was a time when Atlus games were hard to find if you didn't pre-order.
Even knowing about the abundance of stock these days, that mentality is still in my head haha...

Well, wouldn't be the first weird Atlus policy/decision ever made, see their PAL releases (or lack thereof)

All the outrage here about a 5 month delay for a full localization also make all those "bit it's just a couple month" in every Atlus PAL release thread ever appear quite hypocritical.

I wanted them to have their shit in order so I both wouldn't have to wait and that it wouldn't be rushed.

I..I don't see any scenario where TMS steals sales from anyone. At all. SMT4-2 is even a stretch given the niche products and multiple system platforms. I agree a december release is foolish, I said as much last year when people where still "BUT THEY SAID 2015!!" The only realistic game stealing sales from P5 is FFXV which given that and other fall releases makes a jump to early 2017 a sensible decision.

Really makes me wonder what the Winter 2014 version of Persona 5 would have been. You don't delay a game for nearly 2 years without having to scrap or redo giant portions of it.

Either way, just glad to finally see a more concrete sounding date.

Honestly, I'm happy to just have a set day. Sure it's farther than most of us probably hoped, but at least we know how long we have to wait. I'll be patient until they put out another trailer and I lose my mind.

At what point do we stop considering it "rushed"

I'm not seeing an option either, I picked store pickup so I'm guessing I've gotta cancel through said store.

Nah man, says if you don't pick it up you're charged $5.

No, I mean that P5 would most likely steal some sales from TMS & SMT4-2 if it comes out this year, not the other way around.
