Wario: Master of Disguise (DS), out tomorrow on NA's Wii U VC

Hooray?..

Fun fact. This is the first thread the game gets for itself ever since pre-release back on 2007. Any brave souls that actually played it can speak out on how bad it is? I'm a sucker for the Wario Lands, but the team behind those was nowhere near this critical dud, and going by online impressions, it's an unremarkable, low quality third party title disguised (HAH) as a first party one.

If anything, its release reminds me of how consistently good the Wario series is. Is this perhaps the one Wario game unanimously agreed not to be good? Counting both Ware and Land. Wario World and Game & Wario didn't see the high reviews of other titles but I've seen much more approval over those than I ever have for this one. To be forgotten, with the DS's install base and starring a very recognizable Nintendo character, you have to be a very very unmemorable game indeed.

Good thing Mother 3 is totally gonna surprise-release next week...I hope.

I didn't find it that bad when I originally played it. Sometimes the touch recognition sucked, but I wouldn't say it was a terrible game.

This game is kinda booty.

Can controls be changed on VC? Because the jump button has to be changed.

Wow, I actually remember playing the game when I first got my OG DS. From my experience, I remember this game being INCREDIBLY hard near the end.

Another game in the list of Virtual Console releases which were released in Europe long ago.

I do not envy you, US folks :( Although Metroid Prime Hunters is a good reason to do so.

They're releasing this too? What first party DS games left to be on VC? Are Mario & Luigi 2&3 there?

Yes to PiT, no to BIS.

Europe is getting both of the Pokemon Ranger sequels instead tomorrow, as this game has been out for a while over there.

dont do it

Of all the console Wario games to release on the Wii U eShop in North America, why, would you choose this game, over, Wario Land: Shake It?

Somehow, only Europe has that available thus far. It's not even out in Japan.

EDIT: Now that I look at it, even NA has more Wii games available than Japan does. How the hell does that work?

It's nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. The music is good, the transformations are fun, and the boss battles are really good (and way more numerous than WL4).

And the writing for some of the collectibles is pretty funny.

That's true, but this is NoA, who knows how long we'll have to wait for the digital release of Shake It, just look at Xenoblade Chronicles' near 9 month long wait between the EU and NA release.

I dont see it as that big of a deal. Every region has these kind of gaps. It took Europe a few years to get some of the Super Mario Advance games. Japan still doesnt have Xenoblade and a couple other games that are out elsewhere. Just because we're not first doesn't make us last.

I think its enough to know that we're pretty much guaranteed to get most of these first-party games we don't have yet as opposed to wondering if we'll ever get them like with Square and Sega games.

One of my main weapons when I talk about Nintendo's first party efforts on the GBA >> DS. GBA had Wario Land 4, the first two and best WarioWares, DS got Touched and fuckin' Master of Disguise.

Disguise is better than 4.

I would not call 4 anything more than "ok".

I may buy this simply because it would be fantastic for Miiverse.

Guess I can wait until then, I just wanted to double dip on the game to show support for it, I did that for Xenoblade with both digital and physical N3DS and Wii U eShop, I'll do the same for Wario Land as I enjoy those games more than Mario.

Don't you mean only?

I'm sure there are better ones but no names are shouting in my head

Drill Dozer is definitely a contender for that title.

It sucks that Nintendo never did an original Mario platformer on the GBA, and they made up for it in the worst way with NSMB on the DS.

Wario Land 4 is the best original platformer on the GBA. There I said it, now goodnight

This is a good contender for that title.

Yes, seriously

Touched is good and D.I.Y. is plain awesome on its own.

Why have Nintendo 3DS got no Wario games whatsoever, though? Neither Wario Land nor WarioWare... the latter could be so good with 3DS's built-in gyro.
