Kirby: Planet Robobot |OT| A Transformative Mechstravaganza

Camera is more zoomed out like older kirby titles which is nice, background visuals are improved over Triple Deluxe, point it that it seems neato.

This is something that might sound like a minor detail to some, but it's pretty important to me. I've been playing a lot of Kirby lately and really prefer the zoomed out view (Kirby Squeak Squad, Kirby Adventure) to the zoomed in ones (Triple, Dream Land, Superstar).

Being so close to Kirby really limits visibility to what's coming up, and despite what some might say, Kirby games can have pretty interesting level design sometimes.

In any case - super hyped for this one! The robot bosses look amazing, can't wait to unlock the Arenas. Being able to use stickers on your mech sounds also much cooler than just staring at your keychain collection separately from the main game.

I've been really pleasantly surprised by how solid and enjoyable the mainline Kirby games are - right from Dreamland on the controls were super responsive, the enemies adorable, the music outstanding.

And I gotta say, Arena and True Arena are a big reason why I enjoy these games so much. It's where the design of the abilities really shine - they have a surprising amount of depth. Archer for instance with the aimable charge shot and the invincible camouflage is hilariously overpowered, but fun as hell. Hidden behind a pretty easy campaign are some very competent game mechanics.

And what's even more surprising to me is that every game has a flavor of its own. Even the relatively mediocre Squeak Squad has a lot of energy - the little encounters with the mouse gang is fun as hell and being able to change Kirbys color is a great idea.

The one thing I miss from the old games is when Kirby hits walls and floors and becomes a pancake for a split second, and little stars fly around. Such a neat visual touch!

So refreshing that the mandatory ocean area doesn't have the same cookie cutter tropics theming for a change, bless you robo overlords.

I'm so touched Beefers!

I've been having a lot more fun with this game than Triple Deluxe. The mech gimmick is great as it reminds me of the excitement of combining powers with animals from earlier kirby games. The rainbow power in Triple Deluxe was a chore, and very rarely fun.
Yep, in complete agreement here.

Kind of odd to say but I really love the cinematic feel of this game. They really experimented with camera angles and swooping shots to give things an impressive sense of scale or to make the fights more exciting. Really, really neat, sets it apart from other Kirby games.
I was also thinking how much more interesting the use of 3D visuals are in this one, at times it's a bit more akin to Crystal Shards except obviously much much better looking.

Is it super easy like Triple Deluxe was?

I recently did a Kirby marathon where I played the extra mode in Dreamland 1, Dreamland 2, Super Star, Dreamland 3, 64, and Squeak Squad, and this one is easier than all those except Squeak Squad. I'm on world 3 so it may change, but it's on the easy side even for Kirby games. I've never even had to replay a stage to collect the 3 data cubes, they are so easy to find. The game is so imaginative and fun though. Loved the Kirby casino!!!

Poison is the most hilariously broken shit, particularly on bosses.

I adore it.

It follows a trend of the most recent Kirby games where the main story is easy, but the extra content and time attacks are where the actual difficulty lies.

The Invader Armor makes the pacing a whole lot better in the main story though. It makes it feel a little shorter and easier, but once you get to some of the later content you'll see where they've been hiding all the effort. I don't think it's particularly different from Triple Deluxe in that sense.

I giggled at the description of the PSI power on the pause screen because it's a reference to Ness/Earthbound.

It's a Kirby game alright, reliably fun and easy. I like the robo-aesthetic of everything. The weightyness of the mechs is on point. Reminds me of sections in 16-bit games where it seemed like the system was about to break.

I finished Team Kirby Clash! Now it's time to head to what I think is the second to last world (

).

Leave the Casino music here so people can hear it over and over again. :)

I prefer the other casino music (the remix of the halberd theme). It's a shame i can't find it on Youtube.

I shot people I like more for less.
Through world 2 so far. The mech sections are really fun, I like them more than the hypernova sections from Triple Deluxe so far. Played through both the minigames too, they were just okay in my opinion, though I appreciated them conceptually.

The seem like concepts they're working on iterating, just like they did with Kirby Fighters and Dedede Drum Dash. Fun concepts and decent side modes that could benefit from a bit of expansion.

Yeah, I agree. The Clash one could make for a decent beat 'em up, just toss in some basic enemies and make them a bit tougher. Online co-op would be nice too but I doubt that would happen.

I spoiled myself and watched a play though of Kirby facing off against the final boss. You are in for a treat (understatement). Can't wait to see what you think of it :)

Just finished the main game with all code cube collected, man the game was so much fun but the music is just amazing.

Going to do the post game and extra mode content tomorrow.

Woah, that was pretty quick. I literally just got the game and played the first two levels. I knew I'd get the bot armor early, but
I didn't expect to get so many copy abilities for it right away.

It's 9.5 out of 10 for me.
This is one of the greatest 3DS game I have ever played. But
super boss rush mode
is really hard.

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
Stage 1-3, the train, how do you get the second Cube? It's in the background but I never found a way to get back there, there's a big grey block at one part I thought the nearby Bomb Power-Up would destroy but that doesn't work either.

As well it should be, but I'll agree that
True Arena
is harder than usual this time around.

You're on the right track with the bomb, but you've missed something big earlier in the level.

I just finished world 2, and so far I'm loving it. Triple Deluxe was a solid platformer, but Planet Robobot seems much more intelligent. In Triple Deluxe, Hypernova Kirby had few functions and was only used in specifically-designed, isolated segments. Robobot Kirby has several different copy abilities with their own movesets; and is integrated fully in the level design, as puzzles involve switching in and out of the Robobot armor.

It's also a beautiful game. The mech aesthetic fits well, and so far there's already been a variety of environments and themes.

I just finished the game!

I died exactly twice; both instant deaths. Once to a moving wall in World 5 due to not paying attention, (And slightly iffy hit boxes for being crushed) and once to world six via missing a jump over a pit while holding a battery. It upset me quite a bit given how I wanted to beat the game first time through without dying.

Oh well.

Also, the game ends with a "The End?" Anyone, without spoilers, know what's up with that? Is there an "true final Boss" in story mode, or is it something like Super Star Ultra with a bonus mode a la Soul Marx? Don't be specific if possible, just a "what to do next."

And finally, for the rest of you who haven't finished the game yet and want to remain unspoiled, I shall quote the Final Boss: "Meoooow!"

If you're looking for the finale you can focus on the new things that locked when you finished the game.

It'll lead you in the right direction.

That final boss sure was something.
While I prefer final bosses that are fought like regular battles like Queen Sectonia, I think this is the best of the super power bosses in the series.

I wonder if Star Dream was created from the remains of the galactic nova that Kirby destroyed in Super Star or if Haltmann found a different one out in space?

Does President Haltmann remind anyone else of Marvin Grossberg from Ace Attorney? Here's a picture of him for comparison.

Got up to world 4. I like how they kept the less copy ability dependent puzzles like in 3D so your able to use the abilities you want and not feel forced into using specific ones each level, especially since it transfers to the mech sections. Game's typical kirby difficulty but it's been a total blast so far.

Oh well.

I died three times so far. Once for pushing the wrong button over a hole, feels bad man

This game is unbelievably solid. It's impressive have HAL can crank out these games with no issues whatsoever. Also the level design is a lot more creative and clever than Triple Deluxe.

Just cleared it with all cubes and beginning to dig into the bonus modes.

Game is extremely good. good level design, great music, fun new (and old, mirror and jet!) abilities, and some creative boss fights. Definitely in the top 3 of Kirby games, I hope people don't let this release slip under their radar.

After you beat a world in Kirby Canvas Curse you get a time attack that is one segment of the stage. It's like a miniature speed run. That game isn't really recent.

Speaking of timed challenges, the 3D Rumble mini game seems to have an award for fast times, but I haven't gotten it yet.

People definitely shouldn't pass on this game. Such a joy to play. It made me want a traditional Kirby on Wii U.

Cleared the main game, the finishing blow on the final boss
was straight up Gurren Lagann lol
.

Good stuff. Some great level design and the mecha abilities are just really fun to use.

I just beat what appeared to be Shinji's Eva and now I'm about to enter what I'm guessing is the final boss sequence. The last (?) world is one of the best, craziest, and most inventive things ever in a Kirby game. I especially enjoyed that level with the blocks.

To be honest, part of the reason why I really enjoy Kirby games is because the end of the game and the post game content is really good, so I'm really looking forward to what comes next...

Man, I really need to catch up on Kirby games.

Played through Dream Land, Dream Land 2, Adventure and Super Star a couple years back but stopped there.

Should I keep going in order or jump straight to the Wii/3DS titles? :p

You can pretty much play any of the games you missed in any order, although some are better than others. they are all pretty unique and fun experiences but I'd say certain games like canvas curse kind of run out of steam really fast.

Time attacks, you say? Did any other recent Kirby games have that?

Since Kirby Super Star the boss rushes have been timed, but Meta Knightmare in Nightmare in Dream Land is the first one that encompasses the whole game. Squeak Squad's extra mode, KSSU's Meta Knightmare Ultra and Triple Deluxe's Dededetour are the others that spring to mind.

Should I keep going in order or jump straight to the Wii/3DS titles? :p

You can jump in anywhere really, but I'd personally start at Super Star Ultra and work my way up from there. It's when this little Kirby Renaissance started.

I would jump straight to 3DS, and afterwards if you need more Kirby go back and get Return to Dreamland, Epic Yarn, Dream Land 3, etc.

Don't sleep on the non traditional games though. Canvas Curse, Rainbow Curse, and Mass Attack are all absolutely fantastic.

Just picked this up today, my first Kirby game really. I wanted to try the last 3DS one but never got around to it. Hopefully this one is good to start with.

I just found out I'm taking a trip in a couple weeks, so I'm going to save the game until then, but I'm glad everyone is enjoying this. The Kirby games are a particular source of joy.

Only beaten World 3, but this game is just a lot of fun. I'm finding the new abilities to be rather interesting, and the mech aspect really works.

Definitely seems like one of the better Kirby games.

I've not been moving on until I have all cubes in a level and so far that's worked out fine. 4-2's third cube is stumping me though. What am I missing? I can see there must be a way to get a mech but wheeeere.

Question, would I find Triple Deluxe underwhelming if I played Robobot first and then TD? Kind of like a Donkey Kong Country 2 to Donkey Kong Country effect.
