PC Skyrim (with all DLC) owners to receive free upgrade to Special Edition

Blah. I don't have all the DLC because they didn't provide much of an upgrade path to the Legendary Edition and the DLC only tends to get 50% off sales rather than 75% off like the Legendary Edition.

Damn, I need to buy Legendary Edition now. I only own the base game after all these years.

huh, might need to pick up some of the DLC i'm missing during the steam summer sale.

I wonder which will be cheaper, buying the legendary edition or every DLCs on sale?

I wonder if there some sort of deadline? What is stopping someone from buying the legendary edition during the next steam sale and then getting the upgrade for free?

Oh! I had all the DLC, guess I can try it out when I get it... :D

Must of bought 'em during one of the sales, feels like ages ago...

Pretty sure you won't be forced to upgrade. Not like Bethesda hasn't considered this

I know. I never imagined I would be, and I can't imagine how they would stop me from just denying a download in some imaginary doomsday-scenario where Bethesda tried to Windows 10 me. I guess I was basically just saying "I don't personally care and I'm not sure why the majority of Skyrim PC owners would" but carefully worded so I wouldn't have to argue with people. :p

I really, realllyyy hate remasters personally, but I moan and mope about them enough that I figure I can give it a rest for the people who do enjoy them.

Edit: And on the mods aspect, it at least force me to re-install any of t3ndos' mods since a light breeze seems to disrupt them. >.>

Seriously though, PS3 users not getting a break.

Oof

The only break we ever got was half off the year-late DLC for one (or two?) week(s).

And I took it. I bit into it like the shit biscuit that it was. And I said "Fank yuuu papa Befesda" and papa Bethesda wiped his ass with my money.

Ah, I didn't realise Bethesda put a bundle up. SteamDB doesn't keep track of those outside of a listing page and said page has yet to update, so I just saw this:

28187 Removed store name – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Legendary Edition
19255 Removed store name – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
28188 Removed store name – Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Legendary (RU)
19258 Removed store name – The Elder Scrolls V: Skryim Dragonborn RU
19257 Removed store name – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Hearthfire
19256 Removed store name – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Dawnguard

...and figured Bethesda was disallowing cheap LE/DLC pickups just in time to dash people's Summer Sale hopes.

You can also browse to each item in the bundle and add them to cart individually so I don't really see where you saw them take Skyrim 2011 off the Steam store to be honest.

That's pretty neat. I wasn't going to buy it, but I'll probably load it up just to see the improvements. Mods could get nuts if it opens up DX11, framerates and memory issues.

Wish they'd list it as DLC and not a separate SKU, because people are still going to throw a massive shit fit.

Guess I should buy the Legendary Edition on PC. I didn't have a decent PC to play on back when Skyrim came out and played it on X360.

See my edit if viewing SteamDB isn't an option.

Wait... So if I bought the legendary edition from CDKeys right now would I be able to redeem the code?

Makes me glad that I bought the game and DLC for $10 or $15 on Steam a couple years ago. And I never really played much of it so it works out well.

Went from feeling dumb for buying both vanilla and Legendary only to not play either, to "okay, maybe this will be the thing that gets me to finish Skyrim!"

Damn, that's a nice surprise considering it looks like they actually put some work into it. Guess I didn't buy Skyrim and all the DLC for nothing, after all. A new version with spruced up visuals could convince me to give the game another shot.

Cool. I've been thinking about going back into Skyrim & remodding it. So now knowing that this is going to be a free upgrade, I'll just wait until it is released and see how mods will work with it.

The funny thing is that I was actually thinking about picking up Skyrim during the Steam sale this year. And I probably won't because Bethesda will probably not give it much of a discount due to this. Previously went for $5/$10 for standard/legendary. Probably going to be at least $10/20 this year.

I think I'll pass, already played enough Skyrim on PC with mods and improved visuals. Don't need to buy all the useless DLC to get what I want.

It'd be fucking heinous if they charged any amount of money for this, really.

Very suspicious of the motives here. Guess they can keep control of the content this way.

I have it and own all but one DLC, guess I'm not getting anything.

I imagine there will also be a few different loyalty discount tiers for those who don't own everything. E.g.:

Skyrim only: 60% off SE
Skyrim + one piece of paid DLC: 70% off SE
Skyrim + two pieces of paid DLC: 80% off SE
Skyrim + all three pieces of paid DLC: Free SE

But that's never going to be the case on PC anyway. It's not like Steam Workshop support made NexusMods dry up overnight. The mod interface is a massive deal for consoles but on PC it's really just an appetizer.

would this include if I buy the legendary edition?

Yes, owning the game + all DLC and Legendary Edition are one and the same thing on Steam.

It's absurdly simple, people who want to jump in on the deal buy the DLC.

If that's its worth, why does it matter what they charge?

I don't personally own the game on PC but that is great for those that do! Hopefully mod authors will be able to update their mods to carry over.

That's fantastic news, but my Skyrim has been modded to hell and back so I'm scared of the damage this upgrade might cause on launch day.

It's a separate app, not a patch. The last time Bethesda fiddled with any of Skyrim's content depots was over a year ago and that was just an update to the Czech and Polish localisations.

Edit: There's also been no additional DLC attached to the Skyrim app, aside from an unreleased soundtrack.

Awesome. Paid $15 for the legendary edition and it kept me entertained long enough to be well worth it. I put it on hold before getting to any of the dlc but this gives me an incentive to pick it up again.

Cool! I've already played about 100 hours of Skyrim (and its DLC) on PC, but that was years ago...looks like I'll be playing it again at the end of this year.

The only DLC I was missing was Hearthfire. It's normally 4.99 but Steam offered a 39% discount to get the missing stuff to get me to Legendary, so I just paid 3.04 to complete the collection and now I'll get the upgrade.

Pretty cool, I think I just bought the base game though because I figured it was enough content (I was right).

Though maybe I'd finally finish it with this edition, only $30 to upgrade... hmm...

I wonder what the chances are that it will use a 64-bit executable. An Elder Scrolls game without save bloat would be great. I'll consider playing it again if the engine tweaks make it in line with Fallout 4 rather than just being the PC version of Skyrim.

It's very nice, but not sure I would have paid anything extra for the Special Edition on PC especially if I already own all the DLC. There are already a lot of incredible graphics overhaul mods for Skyrim that would appear to already add a lot of these new effects and then some. But I'm not terribly well versed in Skyrim graphics mods so perhaps some of these new SE edition things are new effects not possible in the mods currently (or perhaps do them with a lower overhead on performance). It's certainly nice to have a better looking Vanilla version of Skyrim, but I have to imagine most folks on the PC have already installed a bunch of graphics overhauls; as much as their system can handle.

Fallout 4 is more stable for me with mods than Skyrim was. I'll be checking out this updated version especially since its a free update. My fingers are crossed that save games and mods will be compatible.
