Death Stranding Announced: A Kojima Productions Game

what about the other equation? seem to be something with phi functions. I don't recognize it, I was a mere film student after all.

"I keep coming" + the many incarnations of Norman Reedus

This made me think of the idea of reincarnating endlessly in different settings and eras in pursuit of vengeance for a reason and life that's hard to remember, almost like the film Izo.

That reminds me of the song Highwayman, astronaut in the end and everything.

Here we go already. Theories are going to keep coming from every direction.

Very intriguing trailer and Kojima's music selection is pretty great as usual. I feel like it was probably a bit too early to show anything but I suppose with KP, the build up to release is arguably a part of the game anyway.

Just a theory I want to throw out there... A couple of years ago, Kojima praised Under the Skin and regarded it as one of the best movies he had seen in 2014. I would prefer not to give away the plot, but a revelation towards the very end occurs that Scarlett Johansson is
a formless being who had been using the guise of a beautiful woman (The Female) to seduce men. (Though, less importantly, the purpose of her seduction is not clearly stated in the movie, the novel in which the movie is based on has a more straightforward objective for the story's protagonist. "She drugs them and delivers them to her compatriots, who mutilate and fatten her victims so that they can be turned into meat, as human meat, or "vodsel", is a delicacy on the aliens' barren homeworld.")
Well, what is Ludens? A skull. What did Kojima say that the skull/skeletal figure represents? Us. All of us. So if I had to guess, I would believe that Norman Reedus is a guise for another being, whether
formless, as the protagonist of Under the Skin,
or a player avatar, such as the option once presented to us in MGSV. What triggered this connection was the black, oily substance that seemed to make up Reedus.

I never played a kojima game, but going from the reactions in this thread I assume this game is not a commentary about pollution as I initially thought?

I really want to know what kind of gameplay Kojima is cooking up for this title.

The Music choices, art direction (Yoji shinkawa) and general graphic design/typography (Kyle Cooper) in the trailer and posters is just top fucking notch stuff.

Even though this teaser is probably made as a concept by a studio that just established itself, it looks like its a top tier AAA production.

Huh, right before the trailer in the conference he said it was running in realtime and then there is Crazy Diamond's post seems to infer that the image scans were transferred to their Japan studio to put in engine http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=206955232&postcount=668

Prerendered video of the assets then if no engine, I guess.

No it says "game engine" right there on the KJP website just like crazy diamond's post, I think Kojima is just pulling our legs.

Interesting, having seen Under The Skin I can see the connection, but keep in mind Kojima is also a huge genre film/homage puller in general a la Tarantino, not sure if it's anything but a superficial representation, but you might be onto something. We'll certainly have a lot of time to speculate.

Thank you! There's nothing but truth in what you suggest so if that turned out to be the case, I wouldn't be surprised in the least. It's the uncertainty of it all that makes his games so compelling!

We may look back on this post and wonder what we were all smoking...but I quite like this theory.

There was more emotion in Reedus' crying face then the entirety of MGSV. Kojima has been excited about facial-capturing for a while. Only now do I see what he means. In one trailer, Reedus did what Quiet was meant to accomplish (and Kojima actually got to have the character be naked this time, as a bonus).

Not sure what you are on about. The scenes of Huey being tortured have some of the best facial animation in gaming. If Venom and Quiet are stoic, it wasn't due to limitations.

I wonder if Reedus actually knew he was going to bear a child and have a c-section in the game.

I want to see his reaction when he saw that.

I don't know if this had been said before ITT, but a friend of mine has hipped me to what the Ludens could be.

Ludens are born human, but possess latent mental powers far beyond those of normal humans. These abilities (referred in the text only as the Third Impulse System) can be activated and developed, a process that takes several years. It is not clear from the book who initiated the first Luden.

Ludens view themselves as a distinct race, and claim to have "different interests" from humanity at large, in some instances claiming to be above traditional human morality. The Ludens routinely conduct experiments on humans and alter their minds in order to further their own means, but according to Daniel Logovenko in "The Time Wanderers", over ninety percent of Ludens have no interest in humanity.

The Ludens operated on Earth in secret for less than one hundred years, searching for possible recruits. Any human who possesses what the Luden call "the third impulse" has the potential to be trained. On average, this impulse occurs in less than one person out of 100,000. At the time of their discovery by Maxim Kammerer and Toyvo Glumov, the Ludens on Earth numbered 432. The discovery of the Ludens caused such a shift in human understanding that it was thereafter referred to as "The Great Revelation".

The progressors want to make amends after a terrible time, forgiveness and misunderstandings have previously been the problems and higher intelligence is not always easy, ludens can translate feelings and senses from alteria energies, transitions, and put them into direction and words. They are good, with overpowering demands of correctness for evolvement and progression.

From a Fictional Universe written by the Strugatsky Brothers known as The Noon Universe. The name has to be a direct reference.

Well I'm not sure what Kojima was on about, either, when he was raving about the possibilities of facial capturing during MGSV's development, citing Venom and Quiet. Maybe he saw more in those faces than I do, but he's sure proven the magic now.

This is just my interpretation/guessing but whatever.

This is more or less a representation of the whole Konami debacle. The naked and alone Redus represents how he felt during all of this with everyone watching and knowing whats going on but neither him or anyone being able to do anything about the whole mess happening around him.

The handcuff represent how he is finally free from Konami (blue glow Sony?) the dogtags for the finished MGS games he will always carry with him, Redus is also something he keeps but everything else represents what he leaves behind. The baby ripped from him and Redus (P.T) and the size of it represents how small it was but how much he loved it still and never was able to grow into what it was supposed to. The figures in sky the IP´s he leaves behind perhaps.

Lastly the whole death and oil represents Konami and how the company is not only slowly killing games and ideas but also the company itself.

just my two cents

They loom over him; always watching, always there. Inescapable.

Death of his franchise stranding him in a black hole of uncertainty...

:D

OK gaf, so it's anagram time.

Death Stranding is clearly an anagram of Handstand Tiger.
Could also be Staring Dead Nth or Dad Hating Terns.

I notice the letters in the title that have strands coming off them in the promo images are EAT STING.

...which is obviously TASTE GIN.
Or A SETTING
Or GIANT SET
Or TIE ANGST
Or GAIN TEST
Or TIN GATES
Or STAG NITE

Hitori Nojima, huh.

Finally, someone to say "No" to Kojima?

Hitori Nojima is a mysterious writer who has only ever written novelizations of MGS games. He wrote the novels for MGS, MGS2, Peace Walker and Phantom Pain. Nothing else. There are only text interviews with said person. While he has denied it, I think most people believe it is Hideo Kojima himself, or a ghostwriter working under his direction.
