I apologize if it's been touched upon already in this thread, but is the actor that plays Deacon the same guy that was Starkiller in The Force Unleashed?

I believe it is. Sam Witwer. Also the voice of Maul and The Emperor in Star Wars Rebels.

This is a brutal world, where everyone and everything is struggling to survive – but hopefully, the trailer shows that the game is about more than that. It’s about desperation, hope, transformation, loss, madness, discovery, friendship, exploration, brotherhood, regret and love. In the end, Days Gone is about what makes us human. It’s about how even when confronted with such enormous tragedy, we find a reason to live. Hope never dies...

so the game's basically about friggin' everything? alright, i'm in :) ...

Looked like it could have been great. I was hoping this would just be some brutal man's inhumanity against man type shit... like the gaming equivalent of the Road. Then a zombie showed up. Turns out it more like World War Z.

I think it looked great! Game of the show for me!

Like a Sons of Anarchy x Walking Dead x DayZ crossover. I don't know where you see the TLoU influence? Just because it's post-apocalyptic? That's the same as everybody saying the new God of War looks like TLoU because there was snow (cmon), a bow (cmon) and a guardian protagonist.

And yes, there have been a lot of zombie games over the past couple of years. But not one game has had this design of zombie hordes. I really hope they're putting physical mechanics to work. I hope that the cracking of the wooding catwalk as the zombies got dropped wasn't scripted and due to the weight of the bodies (I'm afraid it was). But we could already see zombies tripping over zombie bodies...

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
Gunplay looks as dull and boring as hell, looks even worse than Wild Lands.

Whats wrong with devs, cant they make gunplay feel good anymore?

It could very well change but this might be part of the horde aspect of the game. Just shooting at zombies might not be a great idea and even an actively bad one considering how quickly and how many of them seem to come after you. Of course I like my gun sounds and gunplay to be more meaty but it might just be they're doing it on purpose as trying to get head shots or make each blast feel huge is pointless when there are 200 more of the zombies swarming through a door and you only have a couple magazines left.

In a genre where the zombies always stand around waiting for you to kill the this was actually a shockingly new and interesting take. They poor through openings, collapse structures with their weight and just keep coming in an endless torrent. To call that "just another zombie game" is absurdist bullpucky.
Yep lol. Like I said. The it seems reshreshing and I can see this being mighty tense.

Wonder whether it'll be coop?

So good.gif

As well as it is almost as if the game is not coming out tomorrow, or something.

You seriously have no idea how these events are set up do you?

There was no Red Dead to be shown there. If there was, it would have been there.

Yea it was likely Neo stuff. Also did you reply to me twice defending this light criticism of a game that just got announced???

I don't care what anyone else says, I think this game looks great. The hordes of zombies attacking was incredible, and if it is narrative focused with some State of Decay mixed with it, then I'm so in!

Yah... I had no interest in the game until I saw the fast moving zombie horde... I'm shocked they pulled that off. On a technical level it is pretty amazing. How they jammed up and poured through narrow doors... almost like a liquid. It was incredibly frightening to just watch the player being chased by them.

I'm not sure how fun it will be overall, but this mechanic really makes this game stand out as special.

The amount of negativity here really calls upon the developer to really highlight the sandbox features. The play through felt like another TLOU style pacing and they should essentially remove themselves from the comparison.

I don't think I'll ever understand why so many games have terrible sounding gun fire. I mean, gun sounds are such a common need in games, you would think all studios would have access to realistic sounding gun sound files.

Gran Turismo still has cars that sound like they have whistles for mufflers. Sound is something that often isn't as focused on in a lot of games like it should be. Naughty Dog is actually excellent at sound design in general. The Last of Us with a good set of headphones was great.

Just watched sony bend talking about this game in Geoff youtube show.

Keys points I got from the video:
* Game is heavily story focused single player only Action/Adventure survival game experience like of Last of Us in some ways
* Bike (focuses on bike culture) is really important in the game and he never leaves which is crafted and built by the player
* Set in Pacific High desert harsh volcanic place with caves etc,,
* Open world sandbox style game that can be fully explorable
* Has Dynamic day/night cycle and weather system
* Has RPG (crafting) elements and changes gameplay based on that, so player needs to understand the tools and environment
* World is dangerous compared to other zombie games out there as they say zombies try to kill everything that moves especially at night
* Game has been in development for 3+ years, but still its in early development as they just only finished core mechanics/ideas of the game and not ready yet

Everything sounds great to me.

To sounds cool & all, but I'm still not really sure what to make of this game. Will need to see more of it in the future because as of right now, I'm not getting anything from it that's "hooking" me or making me think it's gonna be something that we haven't seen before.

If the game's hook is simply, "Look we can do World War Z zombie piles!", that's simply not enough. At this point in videogames, the zombie genre is CROWDED as hell, so it's hard to muster much excitement for this yet. Still optimistic though.

Nice to see some positivity around this game in the latest pages of this thread. Game deserves some more credit imo. :)
I loved it. I'm a big fan of seriously toned games. Zombies are just the backdrop. A lone man who's part of a brotherhood (bikers), who lost his wife, he's reflecting on it, struggling to survive in a less forgiving world. Madness...drama...I love that sort of thing.

I'm in. Looked fantastic.

I really enjoyed the trailer and demo for this, but as for actually buying and playing it? Well, I'd need to see a lot more. I'm not a fan of zombie stuff to begin with. Or 'choppers'. But the tech is great.

Really couldn't believe it wasn't TLOU, though. Shockingly similar.

Keep the tinfoil fantasy alive, sir!

Well said. My game of the show!

The new direction with God of War has me a close second with it!

I thought it looked awesome. I especially liked the combo of lots of zombies and fast aggressive zombies. I always thought a World War Z type game would be cool.

I like this kind f stuff but it felt very derivative of TLOU, World War Z, etc. Still if the gameplay is tight and the narrative serviceable I'm always up for a bit of post apolyptic mayhem.

I get what you say but In my opinion you can do that thing you said, makes us think is useless to shot at that horde, but the AR sounded muffled and weak, shots slow, there was no feedback nor visual nor auditive, I didnt saw any indication that he was hitting anything, may aswell be shoting at air, zombies didnt reacted, arms, heads didnt exploded or fly at all, where is the buckets of blood?

Now if they put TLOU gunplay in this, it will become 100% more satisfying.

Damn straight. One of my most anticipated games now.

It looks exactly like TLoU. Had they called it TLoU: Days Gone and thrown in a few Clickers no-one would have raised an eyebrow.

Not. At. All. Only thing that is common to them is the theme (zombies).

I get it's easier to make comparisons when you have nothing interesting to say (and you can't support your claims and won't answer)

Yeah I'm not a huge fan of the sounds of the guns either but I figured it could be something to dissuade people but I'd like things to be a bit heavier and louder sounding, a real bang bang bang.

Im still going to get it, Im a superfan of this types of settings myself, a proper own TWD simulator, whats not to like.

Disagree with that, he was mowing down hundreds of them.

I'm a little cautious on it because I'm not sure how well the zombie swarm will work out when they don't 100% know where the player will go. Or maybe it's actually not as open as it looks.

Overall is there a lot of potential though, even when the setting feels like a rerun of TLOU.

Fix the gun sounds and reticle pls.
Plenty of time to do that.

Game looks pretty awesome. One of my favorite things shown at E3. Excited to play the finished product and to see how stealth plays into the game. As it was, we saw the main character rig a silencer but it not be very useful aside from killing one zombie/Gollum.

HStallion

Disagree with that, he was mowing down hundreds of them.

That was kind of my point. Its almost pointless when you can and probably should just run and slow them down with environmental blockages and it seems like a game where you can attract the horde if you aren't very stealthy. Still I'd like the sounds improved as well.

Some people should be cutting Bend a little slack here, given that this is essentially their first game of this size and scope. I really don't see how this can look in any way disappointing unless you're comparing it to stuff that seasoned devs are putting out.

This was the one big bummer of the conference. Everything about it looks so boring. A white dude with brown hair in a post apocalyptic world with pseudo-zombies, and a dead wife to give the protag some sort of backstory. We didn't see a single original idea

Why do we always have to bring race into it like it's a deciding factor for a game being good?

I have think the idea of him being a bounty hunter in a post apocalyptic world seems pretty cool to be honest. They will hopefully create an impacting and emotional story.

Wow what? The teaser trailer showing story looked great, and the engine is impressive. I think they just chose the wrong game to end the conference on (how about an indie montage and gravity rush 2, Sony?!)

And regarding Days Gone, they should have focussed the exploration/riding element, though that is probably not ready yet.

The motorcycle stuff seems like the one thing that sets this game apart, and it wasn't shown off in the gameplay. Everyone is being way too down on this though.
