Man Nintendo has held Zelda back so much that jumping is fucking exciting and revolutionary right now.

Jumping isn't a sign of progress. It's an action you can choose to have in your game if it fits, or exclude if it doesn't. In this case it evidently does.

I'm a little torn. Looks great and I'm glad Nintendo is making a departure from their standard Zelda design, but I also hope it's not just a case of them playing catchup with the last 5 years of open world/rpg design.

That's what it looks like in all respects right now. Not sure how anyone could argue otherwise.

What's new here, exactly. Not new to Zelda but new to the open-world genre?

Yep, completely agree. Some people in this thread are saying it's the best trailer they've ever seen... which leads me to believe that this may have been the only video game trailer they've seen since 2011.

The graphics situation can still be remedied by the NX port. The barren problem cannot. Despite it's second-to-none gameplay, MGSV's open world was also barren and it somewhat spoilt things for me coming off games like Witcher and Skyrim.

Need to see footage of the dungeons and the actual meat and potatoes of the game before I decide to make a purchase.

MGS V's open world being quite empty was the best thing done to an open world in the last decade. But yeah, to see it you have to try to understand why Kojima made it that way and how it relates to the "message" of the game.

I like GTA or Ubisoft types of open worlds, but not all open worlds have to be filled with content, side missions, people, animals or whatever.

Translation of a French critic who understood it well :

The huge difference between a world open to the GTA and like The Phantom Pain? The latter cannot be inhabited more than he can be explored. We descend by helicopter to the nearest point of, complete it and start again. Multiple consumables to recover in nature (plants and animals) or in camps (ammunition, weapons plans, etc.) are here to mistaken the eye of an impossible geography to remember. This virtual land policy, a priori frustrating (between two enemy camps or locality, there is nothing to do) rather miraculously maintains the illusion of moving on the vast distances of a world forever hostile and too broa .

Politically loyal to his true humanism, Kojima could only think of the open world in anti-colonialist term. Player, you can not conquer nor Africa or Afghanistan! Your empire is elsewhere.

Looks okay. Somehow my hype I had is gone after watching the trailer and I don't know why.

I lost my thirst for this game after watching the trailer. I cant put my finger on it myself. Certainly "felt" like there was quite a bit of pop in and next to no if any AA used

I must stress i jump at every zelda game i can usually.

Maybe NX version will be the one to rekindle this for me.

Grab a branch, set it on fire, Pyromaniac Simulator!

Also, so far it seems only the Navi type voice is voiced? The rest is text.

Edit: World doesn't even seem that barren to me now!

EDIT 2: ALL THE ITEMS, INVENTORIES, SO MANY WEAPONS

Love how LInk gets battered around after being hit, like being sent to the ground, man! Rather than a sudden jerk back and into the action again.

Breath of the Wild...Zelda..Breath of the Wild...Zelda...

Breath of the Wild...The Witcher....Breath of the Wild...The Witcher...

Yeah, doesn't work for Zelda but would make a great Witcher subtitle!

They need the Xenoblade Engine :/
Looks kinda dated..
I thought the same. Their art direction goes a long way but you can see the ambition as a victim of its beginnings.

Still really looking forward to it. Hope there are some improvements on the NX. If not, so be it... Game looks great all the same.
