This is the best fucking thing ever.

THIS GAME

I HAVE A MIGHTY NEED

Also god fucking damnit I need to buy that Wolf Link amiibo because I also have a mighty need for my beloved Wolf back as a faithful companion. Loved running around TP as Wolf Link, and now he's BACK! As a pet!

Man, Zelda's UI looks so modern. It's a bit weird seeing a Nintendo game like, this, moreso Zelda. Maybe because I recently played Skyward Sword with its endless "You got a monster claw!" screen. This feels more like Xenoblade X.

To the people comparing this to Dark Souls, when I first played Dark Souls I and other people too were reminded of Zelda, or at least some of the earlier Zelda games. So it's not that weird that you feel like you see similarities, seeing as they've said they take inspiration for this from Zelda's roots.

Looks very good for the most part but way too wide open for its own good.

Sparse nothingness all throughout that video. And it just hurts the obvious draw in and makes the repetitive N64 like trees look even worse.

Some horrible textures too.

Would still love to play it though.

Salt from the "ancient sea". My guess is this sea is the one from Wind Waker, and this is ancient Hyrule that has finally emerged from the waves once again. Yes, there is an ancient sea in Skyward Sword as well but together with Koroks, the 100-years slumber and all the crazy tech this points to being rather late in the timeline.

I am certain that this is not in the Adult Timeline. Hyrule got destroyed after Wind Waker and it wouldn't make sense to go back after settling New Hyrule. Kokiri could have evolved into Koroks in any timeline.

The tech doesn't point to anything. The ancient past in Zelda was highly technological predating Skyward Sword and more and more anything associated with the goddesses has been depicted as being technology. Wind Waker had the Tower of the Gods which was full of robots and circuitry, Twilight Princess had the Temple of Time which was also full of robots and the City in the Sky. Skyward Sword had The Master Sword house a computer program named Fi and involved time travel to a past that was as technological as what we see in this game.

I think the most likely candidate is Fallen Hero timeline. Maybe this Link is actually the Hero of Time and he's awakening after getting defeated by Ganon. Maybe this is set after ALttP and shows how the Zelda world ended up in the state it is in in Zelda 1.

Looks great but I never play Zelda for the graphics.

Seems that it got the charm and neat gameplay and cool combat, so I'm excited.

Probably the best game I've seen so far in E3.

Witcher 3 isn't 136 km^2. The in-game Mini-Map provides meters so finding out world size is easy.

This is what I posted when B&W released:

This was the best analysis of the Game Awards Map mathematically - everything is trig, only guess work is tree height & Link height as reference points. That yielded a size of ~240 sq. km for the Game Awards map (smaller than X which is ~400). Obviously it's tough to reconcile how close the Game Awards footage map is with what we saw today and what we'll have next Spring.

As for TP, my math yielded 1.04 sq km (.40 square miles).

Here's my map w/grid - each square is .01 sq km, so 10x10 squares is 1 sq km. Keep in mind that the 1.04 sq km is referring to green land/blue water only. Anything in black is not counted (so the area of the total rectangle is greater).

I really highly doubt that this new map is just 12x the size of TP. The portion we saw today itself looked significantly larger than TP. I want to see a direct quote from Aonuma. It may be possible he was referring to JUST the Plateau region as being ~12x TP size.

TP on Game Awards Map overlay (assuming 1.04 sq km for TP & 240 sq km for BotW):

dWzlQGX.jpg

Scale is 1 km. Each box is 1 sq km.

Also Witcher 3 overlaid on Game Awards Map (assuming 240 sq km). Doesn't include B&W.

AbfQatF.jpg

Scale is 0.5 km. Each box is 0.25 sq km.
Good post. I'm convinced that the plateau alone is 12x TP as well.
According to Damiani and Bosman the Wii U version is "rough".
Lmao

Had little doubts about that, predicted that bosman would shit on this before they even showed it.

On paper it sounds interesting but my god that world looks barren. It reminds me of MGS5.
You didn't see the stream then.
In regards to what and in comparison to what?

Nintendo's games seem to magically improve performance wise the more you see it and somehow look better too. So I imagine the same will hold true here.
It's not like they "magically" improved, it's pretty normal to boost graphics towards the end of the development of a game, other devs do that too. Zelda is ~10 months off so of course it will improve, release is still very far unfortunately.

Looks very good for the most part but way too wide open for its own good.

Were you watching a Majora's Mask stream?

NX it is. I don't think Xenoblade Chronicles X was 60. I definitely noticed frame drops.
Xenoblade Chronicles X runs at 30, but at least is pretty constant. Never felt a significant frame drop in 170+ hours.
I'll be fine with constant 30 in Zelda, as long as it looks fine and smooth, and of course NX version has to be perfect regarding IQ and performance.

I love absolutely everything I've read and seen about this game so far. They really seem to be making good on all the claims they've been making. If frame rate is a concern, I'm sure someone who got some hands on time with the game will be able to comment on it.

I can't wait for 2017.

Anything cool happening in any video shown so far? I don't mean core mechanics or little things to pick up.

It's too early to know for sure but...

Last thing I saw yesterday were the shrines and those didn't do it for me, either. In fact, I kinda hated the design and the look of them. So out of place...I hoped the dungeons would be more organic and natural instead of that uninspired blocky 3D-puzzle style. Zelda has always been about a natural, organic world filled with secrets. I don't mean treebranches or apples.

The world looks really nice in places but I haven't seen anything that makes exploring it feel meaningful. A cutscene for a chest that gives you 10 arrows? Pleeaaase! :( Maybe Bloodborne being the last game I played has made me cynical...Because that one is filled with content and actually perfectly pulls of the exploration aspect in a way that reminds me of my favourite Zelda games.

Game of the show so far for me... and that opinion will probably not change. THOSE are the true highest quality pixels shown during E3 :)

Some horrible textures too.

I'm purposefully not watching new footage until I get the game. I asked this before but can anyone compare how the game looks now texture-wise compared to what it looked like at the Game Awards?

Xenoblade Chronicles X runs at 30, but at least is pretty constant. Never felt a significant frame drop in 170+ hours.

I noticed some pretty heavy drops at times.

One minor thing from OP-

'Giant physics based playground, everything is governed by physics. .... Can cross a chasm but see large trees, chop it down to create a bridge.'

Yeah that was definitely not physics.

The trees don't fall in set places and can roll away, so yes, they are physics based.

It actually is, depending on the angle you cut the tree at, it could totally miss the gap and fall.

Apart from the mechanical changes this game has an air of desolation that is absent from most of the other 3D zeldas. The opening sets the stage: Link wakes up in what feels like a tomb, alone. He is not living in a village with friends as in OoT, tWW, TP or SS. There's no childhood bestie like Saria or Zelda and no sister.

That simple presentation immediately establishes a disconnect between Link and the world; no part of it is "home". It's a wild alien land he has to wander and figure out how to survive, and save. Therefore, more than in previous 3D Zeldas I feel like there is a certain tragic quality to Link. In other games his life started out ordinarily; now even the circumstances of his existence are extraordinary and perplexing.

Looks like my dream game. Seems to be absolutely filled with neat little things that might not be obvious at a glance.

Oh it definitely is.

All I wanted from a Zelda game was for it be "Zelda" and to have a huge map to explore. I love every Zelda game but my favorites are ALttP and OoT because of the sense of grand scale and adventure. Was a bit disappointed with WW, TP and SS because the exploration component wasn´t as important as in ALttP and OoT, there was nothing as awesome as discovering the Ice Rod´s cave in ALttP or the Light Arrows in OoT. Breath of the Wild seems to target that exploration need but aims to satisfy it in a way I didn´t even dared to dream of. The start of the game took only a few minutes to inspire that feeling of going on an adventure on my own, I can´t imagine how it will be when playing it. Also, no companion, yes! I was never too annoyed at Navi, Midna or Fi, but I preffer to go on my own like in Metroid, it helps to maintain that feeling of being exploring a new world for the first time.

It seems Ganon is the bad guy this time which is awesome, my favorite enemy in Zelda by far. Having anyone else always made me feel like the adventure was less important as you were not facing the real boss (except maybe Demise, but he´s Ganon in a way so...). I also love the setting with ancient advanced technology and runes, that really resonates with me. The Chozo Ruins or Sanctuary Fortress in Metroid and similar in other games were always my favorite setting.

Add the hundreds of secrets, thousands of things to do, excellent art, no tutorials...I truly believe this could become my favorite game ever. This could complete my Zelda TriForce.

You put perfectly in words what I was clumsily trying to say about the setting and feeling of exploration, awesome post.

As someone who considers the original Zelda on NES to be the greatest video game ever made, this is pretty much my most anticipated game....ever. I have to stop watching footage!

Let's wait until Nintendo have a chance to introduce Vulkan support for Zelda:BotW. That should help with stabilising the frame rate at 30FPS.

I feel the same, when I started realizing how great this was I had to turn off the stream. I need to experience this for myself!

I like the idea of Ganon being the equivalent of the Bubonic Plague. It seems like whatever life that was in Hyrule was coming from the Castle (probably where the Triforce is) and thus, the light and nourishment it provided to the land is cut off by Ganon.

He is no longer a man or a pig, but an idea. A blight.

I love how after every Zelda reveal we see people claiming "Zelda is about XY, this new Zelda isn't Zelda". Every single time.

PEOPLE ! I wonder something interesting. Yesterday, we saw on Treehouse live they time stopped a boulder, to shoot it multiple time and give it more throwing forces... now I wonder... would it be possible... to climb the boulder before it launches ? :")

You madman...I like how you think. They probably hard coded it to avoid that though. Such an object would be impossible not to cause a glitch or break the game in some way.

I'm really liking the design of the Sheikah monk found in that first shrine. Their technology + the shrine was very much futuristic but he was quite obviously old.

Why do you weirdos love Ganon so much. He is a total generic evil conquer the world villain in every game except wind waker. He is team rocket status and I'm tired of seeing this lame fucker at the end of every game, twilight princess being an especially egregious example of him just hijacking the game at the end and having no personality and adding nothing unique to the story. Ghirahim and Zant>>>>>>>ganon

I wish I should share the exitement of everybody. To me, personally, it looks like an average steam crafting/survival/puzzle game with slightly higher production values. At best. A few little moments here and there (like the old man in the beginning – I got Ghibli vibes out of that!) but mostly unbearable emptiness and lack of anything interesting. Don't do this to me, Nintendo!
