Someone at E3 is trying to dump the Zelda Wii U demo on an SD Card

Well, I mean, it's not impossible, WiiU is hacked to quite an impressive extent.
But Nintendo would have to be beyond stupid to not put any security measures in place to prevent this for their one big game lol

Have you not heard of the infamous PS2 demo disc that deleted all of your save files?

It was Viewtiful Joe, wasn't it?

And wasn't there an update to EVE Online or something that overwrote boot.ini, meaning the computer couldn't boot Windows any more?

And uninstalling Myth II could wipe your entire hard drive.

It's infuriating when people type in all caps and add sentences like "I'm fucking screaming", there's nothing worse.

That's different than E3. You can't just walk up to the Wii U, put an SD card in, grab the GamePad, go through the settings menu, and leave without anyone noticing. Only way this person managed to do this is that they broke into the the Nintendo booth.

Not saying it's easy. But the technology to copy demos / games on an SD card is already hard wired in the Wii U system if they're using Test Wii Us. Since the game probably has no physical copy, there's a good chance they're using Test Wii U's which have a firmware capable of uploading / downloading Wii U games Via SD card.

Yeah, this is Twitter, you can just make something up and get easy retweets.

People who write "I'm screaming" and those kind of sentences you normally see on Tumblr are never to be taken seriously. They just want attention.

I knew someone who did this at Gamescom a few years ago and grabbed a copy of FIFA and another game. Very easy to grab from the Xbox 360 if you knew what to do.

Uhm, yes. Programs can brick everything if there is a bug in them (e.g. delete system files). This goes even more for code in which memory is managed manually (e.g. in games). Devs have a QA department for a reason.

What leaked game or demo has ever make a gaming console unusable in the histoy of leaks/broken game/demo?

yea... I'm not saying the game if it was leaked wouldn't be buggy, but the argement that if it did get leaked you'd be risking your console and that it might brick to play it you better stay away!! is just nonsense.

Demos don't really work like that. There's a lot of work involved in creating a demo for consumer use and it generally requires pulling people off from working on the game to do it.

Theoretically, E3 should be the one place where you should feel comfortable not locking up your hardware. Everyone is there to do a job and wouldn't risk losing it to steal a demo. But, apparently not!

It's just a matter of they wanting to do it to threw us a bone after two delays. Creating some good will, and in the big scheme of things won't hurt Nintendo financially at all. If Capcom can do it with Resident Evil 7, can't see how it's that difficult for Nintendo. They just don't care... :p

Had a feeling it was fake, but glad to see it was ousted!

Mental person. Hope they get fucking done.

I don't know what you mean by "get fucking done," but regardless of how upset you are over a fishy-from-the-beginning hoax, please don't try to stigmatize individuals living with mental disorders. That said, I'm not even sure where that's coming from.

While not leaked; does the PS2 Viewtiful Joe demo wiping memory cards count?

Firmware wasn't rewritable back in those days but that is the closest thing I can think of a demo causing harm.

Well I'm shocked, looks like someone did actually try to steal the demo. http://kotaku.com/the-rumor-that-someone-tried-to-steal-the-zelda-breath-1782169456

It didn't work out but yeah, not surprised that someone would actually attempt doing this. Still, not an ethical thing to do at all, of course.

Game prototypes getting stolen is a thing, and Wii U homebrew is a cakewalk, so this wasn't too out there, but man, the story almost sounds out of spy fiction or something.

Why don't they just release these demos for everyone via the eshop? If you don't live in the US, UK or some major country, you never even get a chance to try this stuff.
It's some bullshit elitism, In the digital age.

Because the demo would be data mined to hell, regardless of how much it's stripped down. Unless they literally remove the entire landscape and world outside of the plateau... and even then there would be a lot of information data mined.
